The sad truth that I have come to accept is that buff bots can do everything we can do, only more effeciently and with greater consistancy(ie always there) except:
- we can provide social interaction
- we can travel anywhere
Our second advantage is completely negated by the fact that there are now buff bots in every key cantina location in the game.
So, our only real advantage is we can provide social interaction with the people we buff. Unfortunately that means only 1 to 10% of the clients who walk through that door are going to bother with us. Any other buffs we do will be for friends or guildmates unless no buff bot is present(rare anymore).
It is depressing and the honest truth is we have no way to compete. Anyone who says otherwise simply doesn't know the facts or is trying to protect a buff bot.
However, I take heart in knowing the devs *are* working on a solution and that we have wonderful correspondants who are great at their job and working so very hard for us. I am saddened by the buff bot situation, but I know that eventually it is going to get better. So, for now, I simply wait, have fun, and try my best not to get depressed by it all.

I have to say I find it hard to believe you can't find live entertainers on one of the largest entertainer servers there is. Bria is famous for our entertainers. I don't know when you play the game, but there is generally a good number of entertainers (masters to leveling) around much of the time. I understand that the search function is not exactly working according to plan (like that's a surprise . . . ) but we do have an entertainer chat channel where you can usually find someone ATK. Just type /chat join Bria.ent (someone will correct me if I got that wrong, I'm sure
) and ask for someone to buff you.
You can add myself, Kirahfaye, to your list. I'm sure Roho (master musician)wouldn't mind if I offered to add him to your list, as well. We are usually on Naboo and our cantina is Bishops' Sanctuary in Veritas.
You'll find that about the only time I refuse to buff someoneis when I politely explain that I cannot buff an overt member of the opposing faction.

Actually, I think it's /chat join chat.ent, but I could be wrong too.
Anyway, day or night, there are usually live entertainers on that channel, any of whom would probably love to buff ya. As with all things, those who know where to look for what they want spend less time looking.
Maybe we should have a chat.buff channel.

And in response to the original post on this thread . . . I hear ya! Roho and I were in Coronet about a weekend or so back where one of our infamous Brianbuffbots was selling her wares in a side room. Roho set up his Nala in front and to the side of the room and I danced beside it. We tried to greet everyone who came but there had to be the better part of 100 players (no, I'm not joking) who literally ran right through us to their precious buffbot so quickly that we didn't even have time to see their names! I believe I buffed 2 people while Roho buffed about 4. And we were there for a couple of hours! (I think Roho tried to do a count, as well, so he might have the numbers on this experiment.) Later that same evening, I was there for an hour and buffed 1 person. Everyone else ran right to the bot even though I was chatting and greeting.
So . . . we were live, we were available, we were willing. This is why I can't buy into the the "I can't ever find a live entertainer" line.

I never got asked for a buff(/tell or Spatial), it seems that people just walk over to the Master Dancers and /tell them. No one comes to Novice dancers for a buff. I have never seen anyone doing it with me or any other novice available......That's kind of sad, though. Novices seem to be not worth it. Okay we cannot buff for the duration of a master but we should get the chance to be of service...
The one time I have buffed someone was when I had taken residence of the main entrance in front of the main room (which was occupied by afk dancers including their leader) and a very nice guy came over, we had a nice chat and out of gratitude
I did a /setperform on him, (I only had learned about buffing the day before...) When he finally went away, he had a buff and had been entertained by me
and he tipped me 10k which is much for me, all on his own. I was a very happy Bothan Female then...
One thing I also registered that all who come in first search out the Twil'lek to watch if there are any... which is also sad (nothing against them, I like twi'leks...)

"Mind Buffing 3K for 2 hours, bank tips only", and now the person is telling one of the other entertainers to stop spamming. This person isn't afk, however demanding a tip is pretty rude for something that takes no resources, and can do multiple people at the same time, AND can be afk macroed.
Anyway so I say "Any entertainers not afk mind buffing for a large tip? I tip more then 3K but only to people not afk and not demanding it"
I see 3 denial of service message flash on my screen.
I reply "sorry guys you just lost a 10K tip." I'll be taking my business somewhere else. I then went out of my way to find another master dancer, on another planet, that was not afk, that didn't demand a fee up front. She just got a 20K tip from me, and a new Mon Calamari painting for her house.
It's not a tip when it's asked for in advance. It's a fee, and is no more wrong than any other profession that askes for a fee for performing their services. It's certainly not begging. After all, even resources can be had for free in the game, but nobody accuses the crafters of begging.
As for getting one answer andthree Denial of Services, this is most likely because the ATK entertainers were grouped. I think you'll find this is pretty standard practice wherever you go. Competition between live entertainers isn't cutthroat, and you're not going to get very far by insulting the member of the group offering buffs.
I'm not a master, and I don't charge a fee on the rare occassion I buff somebody (that sounds so wrong!!), but I believe my fellow entertainers are well within their rights to charge for their services. If I had been there, I would've denied you, too. Your credits just aren't that important. I'd take 10 credits from somebody decent over 10k credits from somebody insulting anyday.

hm...
Well, even if I never have posted in this forum, I read it for a few weeks. Seems as if poeple were always complaining 'bout the same things. I understand that you dislike buffbots and that you are concerned and sometimes I would agree. But there os another point of view to the story, too.
There is a simple reason why people prefer buffbots - the same reason why people brefer atms to bank employees. They came to get money (or a buff) and they want it quick and uncomplicated. And the last think they want is bother with anothers concerns.
Which advantage would the life entertainers we are have over a buffbot? They offer entertainment you say. Splendid. A bank employee with a clown mask. I will hurry to the next bank immediatly. A bank employee flirting with me when I want to get my bucks. Sure. That's all I ever wanted.
The point is the people don't want to be entertained. SWG offers a lot of entertainment, that's why people play it.
Anyone who wants to be a real entertainer I would advise to the following. Don't think about buffs. Buffs are just a game mechanism that represent the benefit of being cheered up by an entertainer and their connection to the force maybe. You should never talk or let your chartacter even think about it in game.
Entertain good. Good entertainment sometimes can mean that you have to keep smiling when people are insulting and bullying you. And means watching the people trying to find out what they wish to hear. If you hit the right spot by what you do the will be audiance. If you don't they won't. Entertainment isn't just an empty word or some hollow mechanic things to do. It means you will have to get the people to having fun. And that ain't easy, espacially not with an SWG toon.
Off course that's kinda easy for me to say, 'cause I guess things still aren't as bad as they seem to be on other servers than mine (Infinity-Europe).
I must admit, that I do sometimes refuse an offer for a buff when I have just no time or when I am currently hunting avian meat on Yavin 4 and people ask me via /tell to dance in my home town, three shuttles away.
But it is wrong, very wrong to deny audiance because he/she doesn't want to pay for a buff. When people ask me what a buff will cost I usually reply "Whatever you think it's worth, hun! /wink". It doesn't matter cause people shouldn't pay an entertainer for a buff that just represent an automatic game mechanism, but for entertainment. And that they will do, should you manage to entertain them.
And, btw: Though being a master dancer myself I next to never use mind or focus/willpower buffs. Most times it is just more practical to rely on brandy/canape even if you do know more than enough dancers and musicians. A simple fact.

I dont find it hard to believe when you take into account this comment you made "We are usually on Naboo and our cantina is Bishops' Sanctuary in Veritas"
Most of us are going to hit the big two, and rarely go hunting into random player cantinas... we get our buffs in coro or theed and go looking for an entertainer in one of those cities.
In fact on Sunday I spent 20 minutes idling in the theed cantina waiting for someone to say anything in spatial to indicate that they were anything but a zombie so I could ensure a live person got the specific healing XP..

This is why I think both buffbots and dancers who work for "whatever you want" can be damaging to other dancers. Now, I'm not saying for you to stop giving out buffs for free if you want. However, it has conditioned people to think that mind buffs are a /tippable service. When, in my view, it is a service that requires a fee. I *always* charge for mind buffs, and I always will. There is never going to be a "whatever you like" coming out of my mouth. I provide you a service, just like every other profession in the game, and I expect to be paid fairly for that service.
I'll tell you what this service costs me. It costs me time, it costs me buying accaragm, and sometimes it costs me getting doctor buffs. And, the reason I keep fully stocked on accaragm, and buy themby the crate for something like 150K is so that I can buff the patron better, and as quickly as possible. To say this doesn't cost me anything, is ridiculous. And, even if it didn't, it wouldn't matter. It still costs me time, because I often decide, "ok, I'm going to the Cantina to buff today," when I know damn good and well that no matter how much I make on buffing (which is precious little because of the buffbots), I can make 100 times that amount by going out and doing janta missions. But, you know, I don't ask for reimbursement for that. I just try to provide a service because first, I enjoy doing it, and second, I want to make other people happy by doing it. I won't lie and say I'm only doing it for others, I'm doing it for myself too because I'm getting enjoyment from it. But, one of the huge reasons I hate buffbots so much is because they take away my ability to sell a service. And, that is exactly what I am doing, providing a service. As such, just like every other profession in this SWG economy, I set a fee, and I expect to be paid for it. I don't really think asking 5k is too much to ask, especially when my 5k mind buff is going to allow a combat player to make 500K doing janta missions, or whatever else it is they are going to be doing. And, if I miss out getting 20K by asking for 5K, that's no big deal to me. Tip me for dancing and healing you, whatever you like. But, if you want a mind buff, I'm going to charge you a fair price, because that's my commodity in this economy.
WE DESERVE THE RIGHT TO SELL OUR SERVICES AT A FAIR MARKET VALUE JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.

I go into the cantina and stop and watch and look to see if anyone comments in spatial or seems "alive" before I go to the buff bot. If you are flying a master tag, no AFK tag and acting lively when I come in I would ask you before I went there, simply -because- I want to reward active people.
Maybe a list of active, willing, buffing entertainers needs to be maintained in the server forum instead of the entertainer forums... I doubt that many of the combat only types come here to the dancer or to the musician or entertainer forums to participate in discussions... but if we had a list to look for it would help people like me... I have three more names for my list now due to this thread (and hope to have more by the time I am done with this pass of reading) and I will be able to let my guild know the names... but thats a minority of the people on the server.
Another route to go might be to advertise in the Auction channel while you are actively accepting buff contracts, simply because it -is- server wide and people -do- read it. I run an ad there every few minutes for my vendors and do get a steady stream of business.
It isn't a perfect solution but it does help.

The time factor is a big thing GreatOwl.... with doctor buffs running 3+ hours we are on a time limit already to make back the cost of that buff. So if we get a 3 hour doc buff, and it takes us under an hour to get entertainer buffed we have 2 hours of active work on missions to be productive and make money (if thats what we are doing). a 1 hour buff would leave me over an hour without mind buffs, and as a rifleman I want to have every erg of working time possible... coming back in from a remote planet after an hour to try and get more mind buffs, only to have to come back in 30 minutes later for doc buffs isn't effecient.
I would rather not pay as much for brandy and canape since I am usually hunting on contract and wont realize my payout til a few days later...so sorry to say yes it is a master level buff or its not financially or timewise cost effective...
