Can't argue with new wearables though.

This is OUR game. This is OUR fantasy. OUR world. If we contribute to it in a meaningfull way Star Wars Galaxies will take it's rightfull place in the legends of gaming history.
Unfortunately for you.. this is a game produced by SOE... whom are reknowned for their moto with Everquest...
"Welcome to Our World."
Star Wars Galaxies is not Our game, our Fantasy, or our World... and I realize that I am probably quoting from your Sig.
This game, this fantasy... this world.. does not belong to us. It belongs only to one man, and one man alone... and that man should be in tears over what this game has turned his fantasy into.
But unfortunately; he chose to let SOE produce this game and that was his first biggest mistake with it.
Now; as for this costume idea. I agree, something is needed other then the constant use of Fleshwraps, Leotards, Extremely Revealing Skirts and Patterned Slips... which seem to be the outfits of choice amongst the female entertainment characters... the first two being the ones everyone uses the most... I walk into a Cantina and there is a row of Dancers all with the same hair style... all wearing the same fleshwraps or leotards... maybe 2 or 3 of them will be Twi Leks or Zabrak... But they all seem to prefer the same outfit.
What about more racial based outfits... something more native to Twi'Leks for example but also only wearable by them; and the same for some of the other alien races.
More Headpieces... a LOT MORE Headpieces. I'd like to see an Entertainer Headpiece that does not change the styling of Hair or Lekku... maybe some sort of a Headband type of item.
And definetely more things devoted more to the Males and Females... I am so tired of seeing Male Twi'Leks running around in Twi'Lek Headpieces that in my opinion, should only be worn by the females.
I was in a Cantina last night and saw a male Dancer wearing a Dress.. when I asked him why he was wearing it he said.. "It's the only item I can wear that makes me stand out as a dancer. People ignore me even when I am not AFK and trying to make tips." .. I don't know what type it was he was wearing.. it was one of those skirt dresses. Though I have seen male entertainers ask about wearing the extremely revealing skirts and if I ever see a male wearing one I am going to pray they are set to pvp, so I can hire a bunch of other pvp'rs to gank the heck out of them till they change their cloths.
I see male Entertainers jumping around in Composite Armor, in bright reds or blues just to stand out...
As for the reference to Cirque du Soleil in the original post. Personally though it would add a lot to the Entertainment... I'd prefer to keep things more Star Wars based.
Yes it IS our game our fantasy and our world. As long as we pay for it, it's ours.
If this was Lucas's game, none of us would be here *grin* SWG is NOT Star Wars cannon, it's a roleplaying game wherein we pay to play. Therefore, the people in charge, IE the game masters, get payed because we enjoy the game.
THEREFORE *deep breath* if we contribute to it as a community and a whole, we will in fact add to it thereby making it the game it alwase should have been.

If I am right, and you can put on armor if you don't have the certs but just not use it properly, I can see five ways that lacking the cert could affect someone:
1. Reduce combat accuracy. Lousy for somebody who wants to go fight in the armor, y'all wouldn't really care as long as you don't forget to change out of your Ris or whatever before going to fight Krayts, or something just happens like what I mention below (not cutting and repasting that again...so I thought about it in the middle of point 3, so what...).
2. Reduce combat speed. Lousy again for fighters, but as long as it's just *combat* speed affected it won't matter much to dancers; if ALL speed is affected, you might wind up dancing in slow motion. I can't really see the armor slowing down your dance moves (from an RP/realism standpoint maybe, but I honestly think implementing this would be a bad move regardless), but who knows at this point... The only time I think it could be a problem (again as long as you switch before going to actually fight, assuming you do so of course) is if you're a Rebel and get scanned and made combatant by a ST patrol, that could be a bad thing, generally there's no time to change armor when somebody's already attacking you...if they'd put Rebel patrols in Rebel cantinas to scan us Imperials, the same could hold true for Imp dancers/musicians, as well as make more sense, that last peeve of mine is a little outside the scope of this thread, however. 'Course, the same 'You're in BIG trouble now!' applies if you're in NO armor and get made combatant. Not that I've seen anybody get scanned and 'outed' since the first days of the TEF removal (me, in that case, and I went to the cloner right quick, unfortunately not under my own power), so I'm honestly not sure if it's still happening.
3. Reduced combat damage. I'll stop worrying about us fighters
4. Reduced armor effectiveness. Y'all aren't really going to care if the Mandalorian you're dancing in is about as adequate, defensively, as ubese, as long as you're just dancing. If you forget to change, or the StormSpammer Patrol outs you, those are other stories, naturally. This affect, honestly, is the one that makes the most sense to me, you can't move in the armor properly, so you don't get the protection it would provide to somebody who does know how to use it--only my opinion, of course.
5. Reduces ALL abilities. This, I honestly can't see happening, from a programming standpoint it seems like this would be a nightmare to code, and from a character standpoint, it makes very little sense. Wearing some strange type of armor should have no affect on whether you can harvest corpses as a scout (can't do that in combat anyway), whether a doc can heal wounds, whether an artisan can craft, and certainly not whether a musician can play...it could possibly cause problems with your flexibility, thus make dancing less effective, but that seems more like splitting hairs over realism than a good game mechanic. If they apply this, I think we'll all need to scream at the devs, no matter what profession we are.
There may be other possibilities, those're just the ones I see. Again, I hope y'all can dance in whatever the heck you want to dance in, so I hope my unsubstantiated assumption about how the certs will take affect is right. 'Sides, I want to see a 'Dancing Stormtrooper Revue'

Oh, hell yeah! Give some love to the big furry oafs! *giggle* I hope they do give y'all some more outfits, and I'm hoping they do when ROTW comes out. There HAVE to be other possibilities for clothing for wookiees than bandoliers, robes, and that armor that (meaning no offense) makes you look like a cross between a razorback hog and a buffalo, I can't help thinking that I'm glad the stuff's effective, 'cause it looks absolutely ridiculous to me. I honestly can't see y'all in leotards...of course if y'all CAN wear leotards and I just don't know it, I've absolutely GOT to see that...
But I am just a fan of wookiee tribal!

Well then you might wanna tell SOE that; because I know from about 6 years experience of playing their other games....
They don't really care about what you think about the game.
The them, it is all about producing another cash cow. They were so damned greedy with it in EQ that last year, the Players revolted and roughly 400,000 players boycotted the release of an entire Expansion pack.
But then they gradually slipped back into their same old, usual routine of building up the game to be the way they want it to be .. who cares what you think... they just want your money.
Period.
They have been known however to maybe take an idea or two from the community and incorporate it into the game, then hype it up... and then it goes Live and they have somehow found a way to twist it into some perverted way to favor how they want it to work.. and not how you proposed how it should work.
Hell.. six years of them working on Everquest, and they still can not figure out how to get the Player Classes Balanced, and yet they continue to promise that they are working on it .. but then they never do a damned thing about it. I see a lot of their promises from there, being told to this community regardng how they want to change the game compared to how we want the game to be.
You're paying them to produce something you think is related to Star Wars... but in truth you're paying them to produce for you a game called, Sony Wars ..
...a game which involves a War between the consumer and the power hungry producer who only cares about whats in your wallet; and turns a deaf ear to the desires of the consumer while pretending to pay attention just enough to make the consumer think they care.
You think we can make a difference in how the game is produced? Good luck in organizing a campaign big enough to get their attention on something you want them to do.
It took 6 years for EQ players to smarten up to their BS and band together against them...
...and for the record...
"If this was Lucas's game, none of us would be here *grin* SWG is NOT Star Wars cannon, it's a roleplaying game wherein we pay to play. Therefore, the people in charge, IE the game masters, get payed because we enjoy the game."
I think LucasArts should take over production of this game. At least then it would be true Star Wars.
I didn't want to play Sony Wars. But I came because my friends quit EQ; because they got tired of the BS that SOE kept shoving on people there, and came here to play thinking it was Star Wars... and I followed them.
This is supposed to be a role-playing game set in the Star Wars Universe, and therefore it should adhere to Star Wars cannon... otherwise it is a sad and sorry stain and a bad apple of the Star Wars dream.
But I suppose people enjoy playing Sony Wars: Jedi Empire Rising... and its latest Expansion .. Spank Darth Vader the Clown...

That was just a real life reference to relate to the types of costumes we need. After all, Queen Amidala (sp) dressed in her finery with the Kabuki inspred makeup and clothing is very much Star Wars, very similar to many of Cirque's costume and makeup concepts (see photos from Alegria, for example), and very much the direction we need to push forth, at least as an option.
The difference is the difference between the gritty, post apocalyptic look we have now, to the futuristic, surrealistic, and bordering on the truly bizarre look we find in Commedia Del'Arte, Mime, Carnivale, Mardi Gras, The Circus, Broadway, Las Vegas, and nearly any sort of performance troupe who wants to grab the attention of the onlookers by being more than the everyday, all in the name of art. Look at The Fifth Element. Look at the shots of the fashionable ladies of Coruscant in Episode I and II. Look at Amidala's haute couture. It is fashion to the extremes of the imagination.
...And if there is any group of professions that need it, could use it to the greatest effect, and truly deserve it as an exclusive look, it is us.
