Thread: Are you not getting the tips that you deserve?

After hearing others on this board talk about the tips they've made or not made, I've come to believe a great deal of how much you get is based on the server you play. I think some servers really are better than others in the way of tipping entertainers and doctor/medics.

Personally, I've had nights were I didn't feel all that great and was dancing for the xp and to talk to my dancer friends and not being attentive to the patronage. Some nights, I got tipped well just the same. Other times, I've felt I was doing a **edit** fine job, all color coordinated, saying hello, welcome back, what bit you, etc. and got zip! Not a single credit all night.

I found I made great tips in the cantina I started in once people saw I was going to be there on a regular basis. When I went to Anchorhead for the great healing xp, I didn't make much at all, sometimes 500 credits was a GOOD night (and I usually tipped the medics who were healing me more than I made!). Even that changed when I went rebel and my name was purple; the tips poured in.

I think what you make in tips depends alot on where you are and what time you're there. I think it also depends on the mood of the people you're entertaining. Ask in General Discussions (as someone has before) what people want from an entertainer. You'll get as manydifferent answers as you get posts! Some want to heal and be gone; the fastest healer gets their tip. Some want goodconversation. Some tip the first person who greets them at the door. You can't possibly cater to that many different needs.

For me, and I feel like I'm extremely lucky in this regard, tips have been mostly very good. I try to be friendly, ask people what they've been hunting, remember if they were there an hour before and welcome them back, laugh when they're funny and ignore them when they're less than nice. Mostly, I've tried to relay to the people around me that I'm enjoying what I'm doing and get them to enjoy their time in my little corner of the galaxy.

"Now if you're an entertainer in a crappy, run-down cantina in the cheap district ("core" worlds) and you're just standing there doing your thing, why are you expecting mega-tips?"

Personally, I'm not. I'm a realist.

"Indeed, tips are a factor of what you do while you're doing your entertaining thing. It is completely relevant to point to entertainer behavior if they're not earning tips."

Behavior is one factor, yes. Sex, race, garments, weight, placement, dance, hair color and style, and a variety of other elements also factor in.

"I haven't heard one story from an entertainer who says they are friendly and interactive yet get bad tips. Whenever I see entertainers talk about bad tips on these forums, they're flaming / blaming someone else for their woes. Sure sign of a personality issue getting in the way."

Me. I'm never AFK, I chat, I'm friendly, and I'm male. I don't spam greetings, but I don't ignore people either. I dance in Moenia, which is a smaller venue, and I'm a master. The only tips I generally get are from mind buffing, and I never get asked to mind buff if there's a female master dancer in the room.

I'm not blaming anyone. I don't care if I get tips. I'm not whining or complaining, and I actually *like* being poor. I'm not here to say my situation sucks. I'm here to say that there is no simple formula to get tips. There is no one way, and there is no right way. In general I believe customers do NOT tip enough, and while I don't generally care, I know there are plenty of dancers who DO, and I don't like to hear them talked down to and assumptions made about their skill at this profession simply because someone else on these forums has had more financial success than they have.

I make a lot more running faction destroy missions than Ido from dancing for tips.

Do I deserve to get more tips than I do? Maybe not. I would be the first to admit that I do not work the tip angle very hard. I mainly go to cantinas to relax, have fun, chat with the dancers and the audience. I always thank people when they tip me, I appreciate the tips, but tips are just not that important to me.

If tips were my only source of income, then of course my attitude would be different.

Since tips are voluntary then every dancer is geting exactly the tips they deserve.

Is that a joke ?

Hello,

You put it in a positive way. I usually take it negatively and interpret that,

"Since tips are voluntary, they may not tip you."

I suggest you get side jobs. You are certain of how much you are getting. Plus, when you are high up in combat class, you will be earning 100-150K per hour now with mounts.

If you are still a low-down-and-useless-combatant, you can earn 10K per hour by doing delivery missions. These are good for starting out. You buy yourself a nice set of clothes or a decent weapon. (Choose your initial investiments wisely though.)

P.S. However, people tend to tip more often than my pessimist expectations. (I love a pleasant surprise.)

So...as a nonentertainer I'm curious. What do you guys and gals consider to be a "good" tip? I generally tip 1.5K-5K depending on how engaging, attentive, informative, and attractive an entertainer is (yes, I'm shallow and I admit it.) Also based on how much cash I've got on hand...for instance, after paying for maintenance on a whole heckload of harvesters last night I'm just about tapped out, so I probably won't be as generous as I usually am for the next two or three days... But assuming the best of all conditions (I'm rolling in dough, you happen to tickle my fancy, you give me good info about a town I've never visited before--the whole 9) what would you consider to be a fair tip? (Please don't factor buffs into the equation--those I pay for seperately)

You're fighting an uphill battle against human nature. As long as our profession relies on tips, and this remains a game where human interaction is done through the computer and anonymous, there will be a problem.

lol. it's almost like people who complain about tips have never been in a resteraunt or bar. face it. 80% of the world tip a quarter for a $2.75 beer. it's genetically programmed into human dna.

In response to your question, Syzygy, I personally consider any tip a good tip. I would say my average tip is about 500 credits with a very large degree of flucuation. I hope that helps a little.

No that wasn't a joke I make a very good living as a dancer and have never had trouble generating tips. If you are entertaining people will tip you. So I will repeat so long as our income is based on tips entertainers are geting exactly what they deserve.

No I think its flamebait exclusively, and so I one-starred it without a second thought. It had no useful information pertaining to the topic and served only to distract from the matter at hand.

It's not flame bait it's the truth. Your customers are making it painfully clear to you that you are not entertaining or you would be making tips. Geeze listen to your customers they are your source of income.
