Thread: Ent Healing: Poll for those who want to play a Dancer

Yes, make it attend only. I am trying to be optimistic about this too, but I honestly think it will never happen because the player outcry against this would be so huge the devs would cave on it. But yes, if it were possible, make it all attend only.
I agree with you here. I think asking to make what we do non-afk only is asking fora LOT. We know how much the devs believe in afk'ness. That's part of why I think we should focus our efforts on asking for something smaller, and more feasible. Rather than all healing being atk only. I think we should really just focus on buffing being attended keyboard only. There is precedence for some degree of ATK only play with the new ID window. I obviously don't want a huge window taking up my entire screen to buff people. But, perhaps the devs won't find it unreasonable to just ask for the buffing capabilities to be ATK. Just a thought. I'll fully support any ATK gameplay anyone asks for. However, I think we should just focus on what I'd consider the most important...the buffbots.
I'm so glad there's no way to afk grind politician xp, else I might be a lot more stressed than now, if that's even possible O.o

However, I still don't think the DEVs have seen the severity of the problem. This is not a coding issue. This is a policy issue. No amount of coding will prevent people from trying to bot. This is an onlinegame fact. No amount of trying to secure weapons will prevent people from harming each other. The first thing we need is laws moral and legal, that make clear that it is a crime. As long as it is perfectly fine to put your character in a public place that is known to everyone and bot, nothing will change.
We don't need coding, we need policies. It would cost time and money to change the coding. It would cost maybe 5 minutes of time to post that botting is going to be forbidden with the advent of the new jedi system.
It's about the will to make it work, not about the resources. You can always bot anything by third party software. And people always will. But right now, botting is perfectly legal if you do it with ingame tools, which is schizophrenic. Right now, we judge by the means, not by the outcome. Thats like giving someone life for shooting a person, whenit would have been legal to stab the victim...
Unattended gameplay is bad for an online game. Maybe SOE willwisen up some day, like all other games out there have from the start.
Therein lies the only answer to prevention of making any part of a game simply farcical. Any time direct game rewards (experience points/skill progression) can be obtained with no direct effort (AFK macros), game play is made meaningless. Game rewards are supposed to be just that - rewards. Rewards for playing the game. Character advancement rewards the player for playing the game. Rewarding a player for not playing the game is not only counter-intuitive, it is a direct slap to the face of players who actually do play the game, as their hard work and dedicationis easily be replaced by sheer laziness. Humbug! Booooo!
I'm sorry that there are people out there with the argument that they just don't have as much time to play as some others. That's the way it goes. You simply wouldn't master as quickly. If you didn't have the time to take full couse loads in college every quarter, you wouldn't graduate as quickly. If Profession Mastery is supposed to be some given right, rather than something earned, then just do away with skill advancement and XP entirely - it's silly to go through the motions if the policy is to hand masteries over, in less than a week,to those who just don't feel like putting the time in. Just have all of the starting profession options be masteries (including Jedi), and we'll see very little change over the existing system. In fact, most people would be happy for the lack ofa "grind". And remember what the working definition of "grind" is here... getting past all the "painful"steps involved in playing a profession's development, and just getting to the endgame as quickly as possible. Want to make your customers happy by letting them AFK? Why not make them even happier, and do away with those painful steps involved... just do away with skill advancement, and hand over Master level professions right off the bat. /sarcasm off.
For purposes of this poll, I am completely behind option #1. YES - make as much as possible, if not everything, only achievable while attended, and not just for dancers, but the entire game.If doing the right thing (requiring that players play the game to gain advancement and reward) is just inconceivable, then the better choice is to take at least some steps in that direction.
1. Yes . . .. . . . .
I'm still not completelyhappy with the options given, but this one is definitely the better of the two choices. I'm sick of having my gameplay enjoyment be ruined in favor of a few extra bucks for SOE and some other players' convenience . . . . .
