I am okay with people doing the AFK/macro thing for hours....

IF they are doing it somewhere other than in the cantina. If someone wants to get in some XP to level, okay, fine... do it... but please, please pick a place that is hidden away. Do not do it in the cantina.

It is irritating if you come on and everyone is doing the AFK dance, I have encountered this while trying to get the last Healing XP I needed for Master (I ended up not buying the title but that's another story). People would come in and watch the dancers with the AFK flag and since we were not grouped, I was getting none of the Healing XP. I made a comment and the watchers said, "So, my battle fatigue and mind wounds are going down just as quickly this way..." I pointed out that those of us who were not AFK really deserved that Healing XP more than a 'bot. At least they agreed, switched to watching me and even apologised.

So, that is my take on it. If you're going to do it, go ahead and do it. I don't mind. Just don't do it in the cantina!

I think this problem is eventually self-correcting. As someone else noted, most of the macro dancers aren't going to stick with Dancing for long. They've gotten something with NO effort, so it doesn't mean anything to them. I know of several notorious afkers who have either changed professions or quit the game.

Another self-correction is the attitude of their peers. I'm very pleased to see how the entertainment community seems to have become more aware of - and more opposed to - afk macroers. If you're in a group with one, make it very clear to them that going afk for extended periods (or macro-spamming for tips) will get them booted from your group. If they don't like that, boot them anyway. They stand to lose more xp than you do. They are giving the rest of the profession a black eye.
