How does AFK dancing make you responsible?

We have a hard time getting respect because of AFK dancers like yourself as a previous poster wrote. You know why? Because they cannot AFK macro to raise their skill yet we can. Abuse is not responsible, but hey, we are all different.

I afk'd macro my way to master dancer to. And you know what? I hated the whole thing. But once I was master dancer I loved it, becuase then I could go to out of the way planets and explore and help people that really really needed me. The process sucked, but the end product was exactly what I wanted and I love being a dancer. I absolutely hate roleplaying. I did not become a dancer so I could socialize with everyone. I have a very close group of people that I spend my time with and I became a dancer to help them.

Just because our end goals are different does not mean the way we achieve them are wrong. I also don't believe that being afk or not being afk has any effect on the respect you get in the game. I personally find a lot of the "roleplaying" dancers sickening. I personally do not have any problem with people afk'ing. But these do not increase or decrease my respect for anyone. If you are a good player, a nice person, and a person that's tolerant (yes tolerant, you don't have to accept other people, but you do have to tolerate them) then I will respect you. It has nothing to do with afk or your roleplaying ability.

ANd lastly...why are so many people up in arms about this when this class has so many problems as it is.

I do respect people with other gameplay styles - if they don't do it in a way that impacts mine. Dancers who afk in the middle of the cantina floor, with macros begging for tips and heals, when they aren't even there, while the rest of us are attempting to make a living bug me.

Dancers who afk macro in the rehearsal rooms in the bottom of my hall or their own homes, or a back room of the cantina are more than welcome to, though I still disagree with it.

I don't think anyone is 'up in arms'. We are simply stating that we won't group with people who are constantly doing this and that getting to Master in this way does not a Master make.

And lastly, try not to lump 'those who 'rp' dancers' into a single group- amazingly just like any other profession in this game, there are those who RP in different ways, and you might try that same 'respect' you'd like for YOUR game style for theirs.

Good question. How would being AFK make someone responsible?

Being AFK has no bearing on how responsible a player is. However, this player chose to take the AFK route. Fine and dandy. That's what he wanted (I'm assuming 'he' but don't be offended if I err).

He could have danced in the middle of the floor. He could have peppered his macro with spam. He could have done all those things that we hate so much, but he didn't. In fact, I gather he did it without even hearing how reviled those AFK macro people are. That is the act of a responsible player. Is he an attentive player? Well, no, by his own confession. But he is responsible.

I do not know how you are having a hard time getting respect. I have no trouble getting respect. If someone cannot see the difference between you and a dance bot, then earning that person's respect is going to be difficult anyway. And frankly, why would you want it?

Those who watch me dance for 5 minutes know that I am not an AFKer, and they give me plenty of respect. DS does not take that away from me. The problem players do not take that away from me. The only person who can hamper my chances of earning the respect of others is me.

Love Star Wars, but the few role-players I could find on the servers were outnumbered by powergamers who wanted only l337 l00t and mad skillz. I can't justify paying $15 a month to play a game by myself.
Still cares enough to interject an opinion, though.

Actually AdaraX I did not lump those 'rper's into a single group. I said that I find a lot of "roleplaying" dancers sickening.

You hate roleplaying... so I assume the dance you do doesn't matter. You use dancing as a means to help friends. Well, novice entertainer can heal wounds pretty fast. Maybe not as fast, but if you only use your dancing skills to heal your friends, ... Master Dancer is probably a large waste of skill points.

Aye, but it's tough to swallow your 'respect me, as I want to play' lines when you're calling someone else's choice of playstyle 'sickening'.

Bit hypocritical, imho, but that could just be me.

Well AdaraX it seems you are going to twist whatever I say no matter what. I said I find a lot of roleplaying dancers sickening. I in no way said that I find roleplaying sickening. There are many different types of roleplayers. A lot of dancers choose the erotic line and I personally find it offensive. Like I said, I will not disrespect someone because they roleplay or because they are afk. I don't have to like someone to respect them. People have achieved many great things in this world without being very likeable while they were doing it.

As for the other poster, my goal was to become master dancer. I didn't waste any of my points on achieving it because that's what I wanted to spend my points on. If you want to use your argument, there is absolutely no point in ever becoming a master dancer. You don't roleplay any better if you become one. You don't get any special skills if you become one. The only thing Master Dancer does for you is give you a title. I'm hoping the dancing profession turns out to be like the rogue profession in EQ. Very limited when the game came out but eventually they were a very useful and well rounded class.

Eljer, I'm not twisting anything.. we'll just have to agree to disagree.

I'm not saying you said anything about rp in general, OR all RPers.. what I'm saying is that you are asking for respect from other people who disagree with how you went about getting master dance at the same time as you are calling SOME RP style 'sickening'.

Disagree with what you like, groovy. I'm not an 'erotic dancer', so it doesn't even apply to me, but my issue is with you asking for anyone's respect when you call someone else sickening, that's all.

I heal faster by being a master dancer. I am able to visually entertain customers better. Since I spend hours each day dancing, being the best dancer is vital.

Now, if I said I powered up to master doctor so that when I was out of action from dancing, I could get instantly back into the game... that would be a very poor use of skillpoints. Yes, sure it would help, but spending over 100 points to reduce non-dance time from 40 seconds to 5 seconds? Very little gain.

Master Dancer gives better light(s), more dances, better healing, and even some defensive combat skills. This brings in more tips and better pay rates for places that pay dancers. I would make more money with master dancer than I would without it. That is very much a role play reason.

Yajedi youre previous post said this....

and your current post just listed all the skills Master Dancer gives, including increased melee stats and faster healing, which is why I became master dancer. Please make up your mind. It's either useful or it's not.

and a side note...Once i became master dancer the dance I chose doesn't matter. I really love doing the poplock in my tactical skinsuit, it just looks so cool....for those of you who haven't tried it you should. with all the light effects it just looks like your in a disco. waaayyyy cooool

I hope the dancer profession NEVER becomes a rogue or bard profession. I hope it stays exactly as it is - an entertainment profession with emphasis on social skills. There is absolutely no need to make it anything else when you can use your other skill points to go up another tree. The only improvements I want are more dances/flourishes (like couple dances!), morehelpful ways to choreograph dancesand the ability to enhance my client's healing.

As for thePowergamer vs Roleplayer view of Dancer, I always thought that the Entertainer profession was meant for the roleplayers, not the powergamers which is why they didn't add in any kind of 'combat' skill, etc and made it such a social-dependant profession. Entertainers were never meant to be rogue/bards types at all from what I could see of their description. I believe the "rogue" class is actually the smuggler class.

I'm not too concerned withproliferation of "master afk dancer" because if they went that route for powergaming, sooner or later, when they start lacking for skill points for the more traditional power gamer professions, they'll have to drop the master dancer skills in order to master those others.
