At least this one is parked in a private house and is charging for the service (1 credit woop de **edit**ing doo).

On most servers they are parked in the doorway at Theed or Coronet cantina 100% free.

Well, it appears that the thread has been deleted. I did eventually go and post something there to try to give our viewpoint on things. I tried to be rational, and I wasn't mean or anything. Yet, of course, the response by the "other side" was hostile as always, and I didn't get a chance to reply back.

I guess we can't have the devs respond to the thread if it's gone.

But, I'll agree with what many of you said. That thread, and the attitudes displayedtowards us and our profession made me ill. It was entirely indicative of the sad state that our professions are in right now. And, despite the sickening things that were said in that thread, it was something I think the devs should have been able to read and take in. Because, it clearly displayed what goes on and the attitudes toward the professions that they included in this game and considered to be revolutionary. They seriously need to sit up and take notice of what's going on or it's just going to get worse.

There's a nifty new thread on the Ahazi forums that I've been a little bitchy on, if you want to visit that one too I haven't touched much on the buffbot issue, but entertainers (according to some) are less important than the combat professions. I hate hearing that again and again.

Edit: Forgot the link

The only way to beat this would be to remove the group-system for buffing I think. /setperform on a target cannot be macro'd without a 2nd-party programme, and so ends the problem. You could lose the auto-join function, but chances are that would be difficult.

Sadly, you are just wrong. There are many ways to construct a buff-bot. The easiest, and most common ones /auto-join or use /join and /disband. But they don't have to. I've seen *many* subscription buff-bots now (they use /invite nameofperson) to group people on their subscription list and I can think of a trivial way to do the same thing using /setperform right off the top of my head.

Sadly, Electro is right. The only way to completely curb the use of buffbots, is to not allow any slash commands at all during the buffing process. UI windows, or the radial dial only is the only way to go here.

this is from garva in a thread on the rtempest forum about the deletion of this buffbot thread:

<is an entertainer

So its not like I'm not speaking from experience, (and those of you being bad stop before the ban wand gets out) the devs cannot really "fix" buff botting but what they can (and want) to fix is making it so you will not need them and people will want to play entertainers even more. If they take away macro functionality they are hurting FAR more than the dancer who legitimately uses them (and its not going to hurt the people that are gonna use a macro regardless of the fact that its ingame or not). Please keep your discussion on this constructive, heck you may even want to go to one of the entertainer forums.

That's a crock of *bleep*

They can fix it. They need only make buffing an atk only form of gameplay by use of radial dial or UI. The problem is they don't *want* to fix it. Nobody's saying get rid of all macros, many of which all of us use and find great convenience for our performances. But, there are plenty of slash commands that are basically only used for buffing afk that can and should be removed.

This is an interesting delema. I have a musiican on Kettemoor and I don't ever go to cantina's. I like to play with a player band that travels about. Any entertainer can heal wounds and BF, so there is a large supply of people to provide this service. The problem is with buffs. Only master musicians and dancers can provide good buffs buffs and they each provide different kinds, further segmenting the population.

I have a combat character on Sunrunner. We have been going up to the corvette a couple times a week. Mind buffs are pretty much a must. Some days it can be nearly impossible to find even one master dancer or musician, nonetheless both.

How many master dancer/musicians actually enjoy playing in a cantina and buffing people? There are some to be sure, but it seems a very small number. Thus you have people like me waiting hours to be buffed (this is just frustrating and not fun. One reason I quit DAoC was the large time sinks in putting groups together and buffing) Since buffs were mandatory, people started buying second accounts to create buff bots, so that they could have full buffs on themselves and not go hunting around for buffers.

If things in a game are not easily accessable, then people are going to create characters that can provide those services. My guess is that buff botting will increase more and more as it becomes harder to find legitimate people who want to provide services.

Couldn't they just fix it so that watching a Dancer that has the AFK flag does nothing for you? They already have something that you must watch 2 minutes of continual dance before a buff happens so the devs are paying attention to state. Of course, if the buffbott operator has two computers and just reaches over and jiggles the mouse every 9.99 minutes it is defeated, but I think it would remove a large chunk of them.

Yep, my solution still stands as well. What was it you say?? Sure I'll repeat it!!

The main arguement isn't about macroing itself. It's about macroing WHILE afk. SO the solution is very simple, at least in my eyes. Fix the AFK timeout time. Say 15 minutes. Remove the ability for players to not go AFK using the Options interface. Then, after 15 minutes of inactive play (no inputs from the keyboard or mouse), the user goes AFK. Once the user is flagged AFK, DUMP ALL RUNNING MACROS. Dancers will still be dancing, and so will still heal mind wounds and BF, but it stops dancers and musicans from buffing, it stops other professions from AFK grinding, it stops those annoying AFK spam botters, and it stops those cheapass AFK macro looters.

This DOESN'T get rid of the Macroing functionality. It just keeps it where it belongs: with the ATK players.

PLEASE someone tell me what's wrong with this solution so we can find a way to refine it. The only thing I can see is that 3rd party macro programs will be used more. News flash! They're already used, but it'll be easier to nail the people that use them since if they're AFK and still doing stuff, there's only one way they can be doing that, and that's illegally.

Comments please
