Thread: yet another plea to stop afk macroing and buffbots

here is a nasty little thread from the tempest forum that just yelled to me all over again that something has to happen to support entertainer players in this game

AFK Buffbotting on Tempest

note the popular support for the buffbotter, it's like hardly anyone can even see any more that there would be tons of atk entertainers around if there weren't so many afk ones making all the busy cantinas sounpleasant to be in

this quote from page 2 gets my vote for Most Disheartening Assessment of the State of the Entertainer Professions just because it's horribly close to actually being true... being an atk entertainer in this game is more and more of an uphill battle all the time:

Well, the truth of the matter is that nobody gives a **edit** whether entertianers are there or not. They only care if they get healed and get buffed. However that happens doesn't really matter. Especially if it's free.

my dancer's on eclipse and the situation is bad enough there, but tempest is truly hurting for support for the atk's

On Tempest: Itte, Master Doctor & Teras Kasi Master

On Bloodfin: Ynn, Master Sword & Medic-ish Ranger-ish Side

On Eclipse: Anjh, Master Dancer & Master Musician

Yes, I just read that entire thread, but I'm not going to respond to it because I really don't feel like getting myself all worked up. But, it's such a shame. People just don't get it. It's so much more about the disrespect and devaluation of our profession than it is about the money. It's about being completely selfish and not giving a rat's ass about anyone but themselves.

I blame SOE for allowing this to happen. But, I can't completely take the blame away from the players because the attitude's displayed on that thread are quite indicative of how much of an ass they really are.

/sigh

Why can't SOE just *do* something about their "beloved" entertainer professions?

Hey Panthu, I just had a great idea for question of the week. Ask the Developers this:

Can you give me your opinions, reactions, and assessment of the following thread:

I think it is a worthy enough question to give.

It's also about game balance. I would love to see the demographics for our professions. I'll bet they would show a huge increase of players climbing to master and keeping the professions in the past 3 months, over past history. This would indicate to the devs that the Entertainer professionsare suddenlya huge success. A greater percentage of new players are joining the ranks and enjoying it so much they are keeping the profs. Whyshould they consider providing uswith content?Too bad 90% of them probably couldn't tell you which Exotic 3 flourish leads to Exotic 4, even if their lives depended on it.

Please push this issue to the developers as the most important issue we face. Autojoin is a command that should be removed from the game or make our buffing enterfaces similar to image design. I dont care what but this is horrible what is happening across the galaxy its the utter debasement of Dancer and Musician classes.

Not a solution to the root of the problem, but something you can try when you get really irritated by it... (This accidentally happened one day in the cantina when our groupleader was just inviting people to make the group bigger).

Invite known buffbots to your group. They will autojoin. After the set time (probably 10 minutes or so), they will likely disband, so that they can get new "customers" while they are AFK. So, just invite them over and over again to group with you.

(They may or may not have a set of "canned" groupchat instructions that you'll have to hear over and over, so just put them on ignore if it's a problem.)

As long as you keep re-inviting them to the group (why not GET them with their own tactics? make a /invite Buffbot; macro?), that's one less buffbot that you as an ATK entertainer have to compete with for your service as a mind buffer. Especially since it's doubtful that anything will be done to change The State of the AFK anytime soon.

Granted, it won't solve the problem. But it might make you feel better temporarily. Muahahaha!

Ugh.

See, it's posts like that make me wonder why the Devs don't think that this is a problem? How is this not a problem?

Then I think of the only possible answer and it makes me even sadder

After reading that, I felt physically sick. The entertainer proffesions are advertised as "The social proffesion", and now people are posting that they've made buff-bots? What the hell is going on?!

I can't wait until the holocron system is kicked. It'll get rid of all the people who dont want to be in the cantinas, and replace them with people who do. REAL entertainers will remain, and the others can go get gnawed on by rabid huurtons for a living.

The only way to beat this would be to remove the group-system for buffing I think. /setperform on a target cannot be macro'd without a 2nd-party programme, and so ends the problem. You could lose the auto-join function, but chances are that would be difficult.
