This ability allows a Combat Medic to heal his target's mind costing wounds to himself...
Yay.
Yup, I can't say this is bad for entertainers at all.
Okay, basically same thing Slick said here.
This has been an on going debate on the Correspondant forums. Not many where for the CM's getting the mind heal ability but the devs have made up their mind on this one so thats who's getting it unless something changes. I argued several points on our behalf with this debate and tried to get the wounds inflicted by healing mind damage as high as possible. <evil grin> Least we get something out of it this way.
So basically a mind heal is in the game, which is good. CM's get it.. up to you to decide if thats good or not, really doesn't matter at this point. And their healing causes themwounds to their mind. (good for us) All in all not a bad change from our point of view.
This should not diminish the requests for our buffs by much at all. The whole point of the medicsgetting some serious wounds by healing mind was to keep them from using it much. This new heal is not going to be a way to let Rifleman spam specials and heal the damage, if they did that they'd run out of secondary stats in no time. So everyone that needed our buffbefore still does.
Just an opinion here from someone in a fighting profession. It looks like you will still have jobs tho.
What I mean is that, it is a level four ability for Combat Medics. CM's are few and far between on my server (Shadowfire) at least in my XP. Much less a CM that hase grinded all the way up to that level. As it stands people will have a much easier time finding an entertainer that they would finding a CM that is up to that skill level. Not to say, there probably a few Master CM's out there on every server, but dancers are MUCH more "entertaining"
anyway.

No one can heal mind damage right now, so the entertainment professions aren't losing anything. The real problem is every serious adventuring group has a novice entertainer or two to take care of those mind wounds in the field. All that's left is the healing of battle fatigue, which only affects how quickly wounds may be healed when it reaches higher levels.
Players see medics as performing a necessary service in order to keep them functioning, and medics can do their thing anywhere a camp can be set up or a droid pulled out. Full time entertainers are relegated to being a necessity only to heal battle fatigue, which is a vague number that preventscharacters from being effectively healed by a medic so they can continue doing what they want. Negative reinforcement breeds contempt. Thus, full-time entertainers are greatly devalued. Few care what different, high level dances or songs can be performed by a dancer or a musician. The net result is the same, it just takes a little bit longer.
I believe the effects of battle fatigue need to be far more pronounced in order for it to be seen as a real debility and to placemore value in those that can heal it effectively. All of a character's skills should decline as battle fatigue rises. This may be rather extreme, but it would put fatigue more in line with other damage as being a real injury as opposed to an attempt at forced socialization. Which again causes resentment.
I'm also not adverse to allowing healing of fatigue in the field. If the ability to set up a special camp with a stage area was granted somewhere mid-way along the techniques lines of musican and dancer, troupes could be hired to entertain and heal adventurers in the wilderness a la USO shows in army camps albeit at less efficiency than a cantina. Entertainment dabblers attached to guilds and adventuring groups would rarely if ever sacrifice so many skill points to get to those levels. I know many are objectionable to this idea on the basis that it would draw players away from the cantinas, but in all honesty all I ever see in the cantinas anymore are large groups of afkers with maybe a couple of people actively at their keyboards.
If they do this right, it should have negligable impact on dancers. I think the main issue is that if a player is incapacitated by mind, the doctors cannot get that player back up. They have to wait around for him to come out of the incapp or leave him there. They can heal otherdamage to get the player out of an incap. I am hoping this is all it is really useful for. During a battle there is generally not enough time to go healing everyons minds, as was mentioned previously. The key here is that there are no Stimpacks or Woundpacks for the mind like there is for the other stats. So wounds and battle fatigue still must be healed by dancers.
I know some of you may not like me for this but I am a combat person and I enjoy fighting with the guys and dancing for them in our safe houses and bases. I have also AFK macro'd for dancingxp, but I am at the screen most of the time when I do this. Out of respect I do notset a loop in the cantina or tavern and just leave. Many guilds are now trying to get guild dancers because with Faction Bases and other changes the fights are moving out of the cities. They need people who are on hand at the battlefield or base. When they need a dancerthe most nowis sometimes6000m into some adventure planet. More combat professions are taking up musician and dancing to compensate for the fact that many dancers are sitting in the tavern when they need them out in the field. If you dont want to do this then someone else will. Since so many more people have hit higher levels, they are spending more time at other planets or faction bases. The only reason to come back to town is the starport to go to the next planet.
