They are changing the way buffs work alittle in pub 24 to make it so once you start getting a buff, you can keep getting it capped off.. Im not 10% sure how its going to work but its part of Red-Dwarf's insperation Guid

You're not 10% sure how it's going to work? I'm not 10% sure how anything in development in this game is going to work when it's published, LOL

Thanks for the info.

I must say losing buff time has not been my experience unless

the buffee is watching and listening at the same time the result is a 9 minute buff

the buffee stops and restarts the timer then restarts from scratch

the buffee types stoplisten for a dancer or stopwatch for a musician the result is either a 9 minute buff or a buff with no timer on it at all which only lasts a couple of minutes.

I have had people get a buff from me either general or profession specific and kept chatting for several minutes after max duration message before stopping they always get the full buff time of 3h30m20s

I have stopped playing when someone has maxed and when they returned several minutes later they have stopped whatever and got the full buff timer.

I am Twi'lik Master Dancer/Musician with +25/+25 clothing which used to be BE healing before it was converted.

I have buffed literly hundreds of people since this went live

I buffed a BE last night and checked the icon after she stopped /watching (we had chatted for a bit) and the time was consistent with the skill level of the character I was playing. I'll be in a position to do some real testing this evening and will let you all know what I find. In the meanwhile, please note anything your customers may be doing that might affect things, such as changing clothes, eating or drinking (ask them), etc. Remember how foods, powerboost and equiping weapons and armor could affect mind buffs?

Took me a while to realise this as I read this thread:

Problem is you are watching a dancer AND listening to a musician.

As soon as you /stopl on the musician the buff is "triggered"

However as you are stillwatching to the dancer the system goes:

"OOH, you are watching a dancer, I must start giving you a buff, let me wipe any buff you currently have and then start giving you the dancer buff"

As such when you then /stopw the system will have the 10min from the dancer only.

As I think I said in the guide - do NOT listen/watch a second performer when getting a buff or this is highly likely to happen.

(NB: If you are very quick you can /stopw and /stopl before the first "+10 minutes" from the second perform appears, in which case the buff will stick, but you have to be very quick and I highly recommend against trying it)

Tonight I was both watching a dancer and listening to a musician at the same time. I walk away for about 15 minutes for a power nap. I come back and I'm surprised to see the "+10 minutes" flash by, as I should have maxed out already.

I've noticed that if you're watching *AND* listening at the same time, the buffs constantly overwrite themselves, like Red was just saying.

The system seems to say, "+10 to music buff...ohh, you're being buffed by a dancer? ok, wipe music, start dance..."

/pause

"+10 to music...oh, you've got an old buff already. Wipe old, start new music buff...ohh, you're being buffed by a dancer? ok, wipe music, start dance..."

Etc.

Not to sure about the first part yet, but I'll work on it

I also noticed when I join a group of ents already dancing there is a radial over the dancer to /stopl??????? this is really odd, so I have to radial /stopl then /watch to get my buff.

Also the Pub 24 edits are confusing people ingame, an ent told me I have to /watch /stopw and /watch to get the uber long buff, I was like uhm no... and to listen and watch a musician to get a "speed buff". I think people are reading parts of posts and not the whole thing. =o( had to try and tell her that wouldnt work right now, she didnt believe me.

I have a feeling it may be better to re-edit it back to publish 23, and hold the 24 changes for a while, anyone wanting to test on TC (when it comes back) can PM me for the changes, I'll then re-publish once 24 looks to be going live (or a day or so before so time happens to pass it round)

veral times, as I mentioned, but I was not watching and listening.

Did you wait for a "Max Duration" flag to go up before stopping each timeor did you just keep starting and stopping at odd intervals?

I did not wait for max duration each time. The reason I was stopping and starting is that I wanted to see how much total inspiration I had earned, since the output no longer tells you that while you are watching.

That is the problem. Each time you stop, your buffing has ended and the inspiration applied. When you start watching again your buff is erased and a new one is being applied. So it wasn't decreasing, you were getting a bunch of new buffs in a row.

It does acutally tell you how much you are earning as you are watching. Every 10 seconds or so you'll see fly text that says "+10 Minutes" and that means you gained 10 minutes to your buff. That fly text will continue until you reach maximum time you can receive from that entertainer (it depends on how much enhancement tree they have or if they have CA's or something). When you can get the most time possible from the entertainer the fly text will say "Maximum Duration" and fly text will stop. So like said above if you're standing around with no messages for a while, then you have your full buff and can stop watching to apply the buff.

It doesn't tell me the _total_ I have earned like it used to. I'm not talking about seeing "Max Duration," I mean the actual number.

If what you're saying is that this is all working as intended, then I would say this is a very poor implementation compared to the previous one. Why should the buff reset to zero if I stop watching a performer for a minute and then start watching the same exact performer?

The devs agree with you.

This changes in publish 24 and you will see the buff timer build up, no ETA on when it goes live (currently no ETA on when it goes back on TC!)

In any case, the system will reset a buff if you do a /stopw or a /stopl and then get entertained. This can be useful (to clear a buff and get a different one) but for most people it is an annoyance.

Ok, thanks Red-Dwarf. I am glad to hear it, this process of getting inspired has been a bit frustrating lately

I just popped in and read the thread about TC, ack, I hope they get it fixed soon. I don't play there but I am grateful to those who do.

I have a feeling that the reason you can overwrite buffs is so that you can get a completly different buff if you wish. For example, I have a Droid Engineer/Chef character, and I'm often looking for a buff so I can make a good factory schematic. It's not often that I'll be crafting in the same profession for hours. So I'll go get a chef buff, create a factory schem until I get the stats I like, then stick it in the factory.

Then I might want to start a factory run of some droid things. Problem is, I'll have about two hours left on my chef buff, and that doesn't help at all with DE. But I can go get a brand new DE buff, and overwrite my chef one. So then I'll get the DE stuff underway, then probably jump in to space for a bit. So I'll get a generic buff.

Generally I listen till I reach Max Duration, just in case something untoward happens and I'm delayed with my craftin, but mostly because the dancers/musicians I watch/listen need all the XP they can get
