I buffed myself up with the inspiration buff and went out hunting. That's one really nice thing about being a dancer and a brawler (hopefully TKA someday soon), especially since there was some bug where people couldn't watch or listen to entertainers.

It took a few fights, and I got used to the new combat system. Overall, I can see the potential, but I'm not as excited as I would be if everything worked right. In a fight, I end up watching my hotbars and buffs more than I do the actual fight. If Center of Being isn't up and functional, I won't be for long...so I have to make sure I activate it as soon as I can.

Unless I end up with two things chewing on me, I was doing fairly well. Though, there don't seem to be any easy fights now. Sometimes, I do like to beat up on some easier creatures for less experience, but less stress as well. The only fight where it wasn't a race to see who could remain standing was against a level 2 womp rat. Of everything else I've fought (level 4, 8, 10, 11, and 12...I'm level 13), the only difference has been the number over the creature's head and the amount of experience I received from the fight. The damage they did to me and the damage I did to them was exactly the same for every level I've fought except the level 2 and 3. I think that's my biggest disappointment with the CU. I have to work just as hard against that grey level 4 mob for 1 xp as I do against the blue level 11 for 500. If I'm doing the same work with the same risk, I should be getting the same reward.

And, other than the problem with the flourish icons, all of my dancing is peachy.

I am not fond of the level system either, but I can work with it. The important thing is that combat is fun for me again.

And by the way stopping shot is amazing. After a year and a half of being a pistoleer and getting MAULED in PvP, I'm finally a FOTM. I'm so proud!

I agree I have been having a blast in PvE combat the last couple of days. I have also been having fun when I have been entertaining.

I have flirted with both Doc and Pistoleer (which I masteredon the day of the announcement)this side of the CURB. I think I will probably stick with pistoleer, even though I had much fun with Doc on the day I went hunting using it. Staying Master Ent/Master Musician is a given for me

As a master pistoleer/master danceryou can hunt perfectly fine with any CL80s. You may do a bit less damage to the monsters due to the differences in accuracy and defense, and take a bit more damage for the same reasons, but you will earn solid exp, a tad less than the CL80. We did that on Lok sevearl times. The trick is to take on CL80 missions.

As a master dancer/tkm you can tank for a CL80 group, I did that in the DWB.

You need some solid tactics though, crowd control by tanking or rooting is a must. But by no means does being master dancer make you useless in PvE.

And another sucessful night hunting on Dath...

We had about 6 people and were taking on 3-4 level 79-82 Bolmas at a time.

Alevel 22 Fencer ( & Master Dancer )
A level 44 Pistoleer / Smuggler ( + Master dancer )
A level 56 Master Smuggler ( me )
A level 80 Squad Leader / Pistoleer / Carbineer
A level 80 TKA / Smuggler + other stuff
A level 80 BH ( not really sure )

While we were waiting for the group to assemble, we danced and gave the group an inspiration buff.

For those worried about getting cheated out of experience because you are not doing the same damage as the level 80,it isnot based on the damage. It was based on my level and the creature's level. I got my full allotment even if I shot only once so I could use my abilities as a smuggler.

I ran around a lot. I supported my friends by rooting anything that was attacking and then making them vulnerable.

Based on my experience. Grouping with level 80s and doing level 80 missions are not a problem. It's the level 40-60 range groups when you get 8 players who can only preform 1 function taking on mobs at or below their level.

My big complaint abou the CU is that much of the combat is still broken for many. Two of the most important rifle skills are broken (sniper shot and conceal shot). I've heard some rifle users indicating kneecap works great but so far I've only found it to really anger the target and pull them toward me at a high rate of speed. The shot also gives a false "snared" system message that's not intended. Not all levels are created equal. Meaning a level 61 Dantari camp is much much easier than a level 61 hurrton howler lair. Some creatures seem to have near miraculous healing stims.. and they aren't revealing where they bought them. The DWB which was supposed to be "the toughest dungeon" in the galaxy has become an xp grind location. Wha?? And there's either a serious lag problem much of the time I am in combat or there's a lot of warping going on. Often my target is out of melee range (according to the information on my screen) but they are hitting me with melee damage. Then when they die they warp 30 - 50 meters to my feet.

It's difficult for people who were accustomed to the previous system to adapt partly because there's no set FAQ or new users guide available. If your sniper shot doesn't work do you know if it's a bug or because you don't know how to use it? My medic skills changed completely in the new system and I couldn't find any information in the Holocron or in the published release notes indicating what the new system was supposed to mean. Am I supposed to tell my hunting partner who's lying incap'd "oops sorry I thought that icon did such and such but apparently it doesn't".

It certainly didn't ruin the game for me. I still enjoy being an entertainer-combat hybrid. But there's a lot that needs some serious fixing. Aside from that, I have to say the new "visuals" are way too cartoonish for my taste and make this less a "Star Wars" environment and more a "Saturday morning as a kid" environment. I'll hope they continue to tone those down a bit.
