aaarrrggghhh... SOE reset the CU and keep your fingers away from the Keyboards for a long time..
Ive loged in a few times.. my guild that was so lively is now all dead..
The CU is nothing but a disaster... its like a nightmare. One day you wake up and what you loved is gone.. /cry
Pft. Don't TRY it or anything. Just decide it sucks and don't let the door hit you on the butt on the way out. Gawd. There are a lot of us that LIKE the CU, and when the dust settles, the people who REALLY love the game will still be here with a whole new bunch of people to play it with.
*sigh* Here is my post in the "In Live" forum.
First. I want to say that there are ALOT of good things about the CU. Combat works. It has become more than just SPAM my #1 special.
~~~~
Problems with spawning, problems with agro, problems with grouping and experiencealong with the1 level over you and you're dead and 1 level under you is a definate kill.
My first experience in a group hunt was a nightmare. [ Now I have to qualify this by saying we were only using food buffs because after all "buffs are good but not required" right? ]
The first lair was a level 59 Pikete lair.
Our group consisted of the following
- 1 level 54 Master Combat Medic ( + Master Musician )
- 1 level 56 Master Smuggler (+ Master Dancer
- 1 level 60 Master Fencer ( + Master Dancer )
- 1 level 60 Master Doctor
- 1 level 54 Creature Handler ( with what we thought were pets to tank for us )
Here are the problems.
The pikets stayed to close together. As soon as one of us would attack, they would all aggro on that one person and in a matter of seconds they were dead. It came down to one of us pulling knowing that they were going to be incapped. While the mob attacked that one person, one was pulled away from the group. Rest up... do it again. We tried to rotate the player who was going to be the sacrificial lamb but some of us cloned anyway and we'd have to wait for them to come back. OH BOY! FUN!
Finally, after about anHOUR of this and not even getting to the part of tapping the lair for the first spawn, the group said FARK THIS called a level 80 friend to tank for us.
Here's a big problem with grouping.
Now we couldn't invite our friend into the group because our experience would be trashed and reduced to nothing. So he pulled, we shot into the mob. Great for us.... but he was getting absolutly nothing. No payout for the mission and no experience for the kills.
You will NEVER see a group of non-combat/combat and full combat players in the current system.
NEVER
NEVER
NEVER
They may fight together on ocassion when the full combat players feel like babysitting. But they will NEVER group. Now someone who is working up in their full combat template may fightwith theirnon-combat/combatfriends for a while, but once they get a certain level beyondthem and are still working up in their levels, they will not want to because their non-combat/combatfriends become a liability.
well, that's what happens when people use excessive exclamation marks, and the 'I' blends in. not my fault that I'm obsessed with taxes, if you do my line of work you would too
rofl I did too! I was thinking, "Why are they talking about taxes in the Dancer forum?"
I respeced to Master Doc today (I also have MM/ME) making me a grand total of level 54. I went on a hunt with a level 80 group it was great fun (if I had been shooting anything I would have done no real damage but I was there to heal and Rez). So I do not think that every template we can have will exclude us from high level content.
I do think though that if I had been a Master Pistoleer in that group I would have been tatally underpowered for them.
Now I'm in a kind of dilema do I got for a profession which I will be able to use and enjoy with anyone who is close to level 54 or above, is great in a group but useless solo (Master Doc)or for a profession that would allow me to defend myself but only really good in a group where the players are roughly the same level (Master pistols)
I'm not sure what i will choose yet...
Some valid points on all sides - but this is my take on everything so far.
There is some things to like about the CU, there is much to dislike - however, I have deemed to give it all a fair go before I cast any vote of judgement. There is a lot of things that are going to require us to adjust our habits or playstyles, so naturally its going to be a little bit confusing or frustrating in the beginning. I agree with Isleh that it is appalling that hybrid combat/entertainers can no longer be deemed as an effective member of a hunting party - I for one do not want my guildmates to babysit me or make special concessions because I choose not to be a 100% pure fighting machine,so I am going to miss theability to be a hybrid Dancer/Rifleman.
But it is still early days, and for some odd reason its kinda fun running around with the "newbie" sheen we all have whenever we start a new game (well, that's just me anyway
)
Simple, easy, repeatable, and definitely not as strategic as it was to take on NS in the past. The mix of resists on NS made them a tough bunch to attack but now everything, including some high end NPC I've fought, follow the same simple pattern. SO much for the CU being a more strategic system. It definitely means that grouping is important but it also means that just like in EQ2 and WOW no effective group will exist unless it has one mezzer, one healer, and the rest damage dealers. You don't build groups in EQ2 any differently for PVE according to several friends and we are headed to the exact same predictability.
The unpredictability and freedom of entertaining beats it hands down. It is fun to hunt with my guild, we are all good friends and the CU gave us a reason to group up again. I'm happy for that change but combat complexity is no greater or more challenging than the old system. In fact the krayts we hit last night went down way faster than in the past because we added a level 80 guildie to the mix to hit them putting them 2 levels below us so they hardly did any damage to us at all. Now why should they become powder puffs just because a double combat elite joined the group? I mean does a double elite scare a mob so badly it can no longer hit hard?
I much prefer dealing with all the combatants asking why we aren't in the cantina when we play on the streets outside Theed cantina. The interplay is much more dynamic and unpredictable than combat.
I went out and hunted with a friend who is level 80 and the two of us were taking on level 82 gureks. I noticed that they were not huddling around the lair like the Pickets the night before. Maybe the DEVs tweaked it. Attacking the lair in the beginning, it was rough. If we accidentally pulled 2, we were dead.
It was during one of those "Oh cr_p, not again" moments when we accidentally drew 2 and out of desperation I tried something new. I used concussion shot on one and immobilized it then tabbed to the next and did the same thing. Here is the important thing I learned. I tabbed back to the first and waited. I did not fire, I did not auto fire, I waited. When the first one started to move again, I did the same thing. We killed both of them.
Taking on 3 at a time was still a little to much. Just to let you know, I was getting 4400 pistol experience and he was getting 5500 for each gurek. It took us about 40 min to take out one lair but I'm going through a learning process. A good portion of that was sitting and healing too.
I almost envy the players who quit and came back. They are coming in with a fresh attitude while I have to fight old habits.
