What is also rather amusing is that the people who I usually see getting so angry over stuff like the original topic are the ones who are going to go AFK themselves. Those just want to get AFK ASAP and resent that you're not there to get them in the group so they can leave. I've seen live ents get frustrated over AFK leaders (and "AFK" leaders) as well but I haven't seen them get nearly as nasty over it.

Ah well,

This is the awful truth

If I have to step away for even just a minute, I sit down. It eliminates so many problems. If I'm the leader, I get someone else to take leader while I run to the bathroom or to kill the kitten. I never come back to find any unpleasant surprises and my clients never feel like they're being ignored.

Here is where I run into problems then. Maybe your lucky and have gotten some great entertainers in your groups. I happen to be the one who is usually leader becasue the group gets a tell something along the lines of: "I have to go afk now someone take leader now or I'll give it to an afk leader:". So yes, I"ll take leader rather than have the group dwindle down to nothing with an afk leader. The sucky part is that when it's my time to take a fiver and go smoke, go smack and tickle my kids for a few minutes, go start the dinner for five minutes, whatever, you all know what I mean by that kind of afk...I can find nobody to take over for me. This has happened so many times I've lost count. I see alot of people who want to bash the afk'er and send them into oblivione, but none of those same people I see doing that are willing to step up and take lead for a while. I have no solutions for this, other than please be considerate. Take lead for a few minutes so the whole group won't have to disband and then reform. That is time consuming and frustrating.

Ok, enough ranting! I'm sure those of you that this was directed to know what I am saying. Help out more in terms of group and you'll probably have more atk leaders who won't ignore new players wanting in.

Thanks for listening!

OK, this post is slightly except that I don't think it was nice of the group leader...
When I come into a cantina I ask (grouped) people I know who the group leader is or otherwise, if there is no one I know, people that I would listen to if I was a customer.
If all doesn't work out I mark myself LFG and wait. Sooner or later someone usually sees that, though it may take an hour.
