Thread: Killed 3 times before I got to Moeina
What I love is how they forced pilots to align on the ground. Any idea how many people are here mainly for JTL and never prepared their characters to deal with the ground game in a significant way? I'm betting from my casual observations of people that this is a sizeable number and they are really gonna hurt when trying to move around a city that is aligned against them.

Also I can't understand why they defaulted all the coverts to PvE enabled. We were covert for a reason. We should have been defaulted to "On Leave". I'm just glad I happened to log out the night before in my guild city instead of Theed.

When they first posted this GCW revamp idea, I immediately brought up the point of what happens to "on leave" entertainers who just want to perform in a cantina regardless of who controls the city. It sounded like you were still open to attack even if you had no contraband just on some chance discovery of your hidden affiliation. I tried to point out that there is a need to be able to have some way of flying under the radar of all these scans as long as you're not actually getting away with anything (i.e. being completely covert and not carrying contraband). Surprisingly I got no comment whatsoever from the devs. Imagine that! And now it seems the system is in place and working just as I was afraid it might - maybe worse. Also I can't understand why they defaulted all the coverts to PvE enabled. We were covert for a reason. We should have been defaulted to "On Leave". I was concerned about this issue myself and took the time to be sure to move each of my factionedcharacters who were not already in a safe location to a place where even if they logged in PvE enabled they would be safe. I did not trust that they would log in "On Leave" and I was right.
However... with regards to your other points... I was told that the chance of being discovered as a member of the opposing faction is lower if your rank is low, so non-combat characters should apparently"keep their faction rank low" and stay "On Leave" 24/7. Right... so why should a non-combat character belong to a faction at all? I see no point to it... no reason to belong to a faction if a) you have no chance at advancing in Rank and b) are in fact, advised NOT TO advance in Rank.
Needless to say, I am very disapointed in this aspect of the new GCW. I have factioned characters on 4 servers...so I need to spend the faction points those characters have now (so they don't go to waste) and have them quit their respective factions completely. Non-combat characters have no role/no placein the new GCW.

All due respect, but I'm afraid the damage on this issue is already done. I was able to travel to Moenia in relative safety, though others were not so lucky. Unless they're considering rolling back the servers to the point where they first activated this patch and then properly changing covert players to 'on leave', I doubt that there's much more to be done on this.

I hadn't heard about rank factoring into this. I'm a little torn on that point because it does kinda make sense, but I still believe in having an option to be completly safe. It does seem reasonable that a Rebel Colonel might run a greater risk of being discovered because he or she might more likely be known to the enemy than a lower ranked Rebel Staff Sergeant. Maybe a better scan system might run something like this: If no contraband, done - no harm no foul; if contraband found, issue penalty and attempt background check (random chance generator - possibly modified by rank/profession - possible 100% chance of discovery by friendly faction since they know you best); if nothing turns up, nothing further happens; if friendly faction, possible (rank based) modification of penalty; if enemy faction, change player status and attack. At least with a system like this if you're trying to keep a low profile by obeying the rules, you can do so without risk. If you're trying to sneak by with spice, sliced apparatus, or faction supplies, then you're going to be taking your chances as appropriate. Oh - and I just had another idea. Maybe this is an area where ID's could come into play - maybe ID's could have an option to disguise your appearance to give you a better chance of avoiding detection if you're 'On Leave'. Just a thought...
As to non-combat players not having an opportunity to earn faction points, that's more or less true on the ground the way things are now. This still seems to be an issue, though, that the devs seem to intend to address with the larger GCW revamp, so there might be other options coming in the future. Now though, if you have JtL there is opportunity for any factioned player to earn FP in space regardless of what your normal professions are. I only just recently learned that I can go overt in space and shoot down opposing factioned NPC ships and earn a good amount of FP for it. I just wish I had figured that one out before I got to Tier 4 in pilot.

If you have high enough Rank, you get an appology if stopped for a search by friendly forces... and they don't complete the search. Higher rank does bring with it a greater chance of being "outed" by the enemy during a search though. It's a catch-22... high rank gives you immunity from searches by friendly faction but a greater chance of being discovered by an enemy search.
I have been doing some tests regarding factioned characters "on leave" earning faction points. It seems that they can still do those Faction missions that civilians who wish to join a faction can do. So that is not a total waste. I can deal with my non-combat characters becoming a combatant in a safe location to buy rank and/or spend faction points on other things... and this placesthem in the same situationthey were in being covert before.
