The knockdown attack is "Firearm strike". I've used it numerous time when gettting agro'd and although it's a "wind up" attack it doesn't fail very often.

I was told that pets are not good for that anymore, as soon as you do damamge to your target, it turns on you. (kinda like howSoE Messed up Druids, other pet classes in EQ)

I've only used my pet for lower level targets since the poor cat doesn't do much damage. It slowed the target down considerably more than "Kneecap" which from what I have seen slows them down not at all.

All in all, I had a blast in combat last night, as A Master Dancer/Master Riflewoman.

It was the first time I went into combat sence Publish 14 went live, because of low visual performance.

I was able to stay away from the heat of combat (and thus alot of the lag) and I had only minor problems with getting almost killed, but my groupmates knew I was a Hybrid combatant and they kept a good eye on me.

I will say that my first bit of combat work with the CU has me very optomistic..

I've been master dancer - master rifles for nearly a year now and I love it! With TKM I took a lot of beatings that I didn't particularly enjoy so I decided to let someone else be the tank while I stood back with a good rifle and blasted things from a comfy distance. Once the attacks get fixed I'll be even happier I'm sure. One of my biggest problems is hunting at night time. It's difficult to tell what obstacles are blocking the line of sight when it's pitch black and often you have to get very close to the target to "see" what's around. It's too bad rifles can't have a "night vision" scope that allows them to essentially point a beam of light at the target to see what's blocking the path...

I hunt a lot and also go on high end quests such as the vette. As Master Pikes, I can tank and damage deal, it's more like the old TKM than the new TKM is, I have great fun.

The Docs and CMs in our groups always get aggroed when area healing and need either Smuggler with Feign Death or an elite combat prof to survive. I think Doc/Dancer would not work too well. But you can only find out by trying.

Master Smuggler and Novice commando isn't bad. I support the group so the damage isn't thatimportant.

  • I use a carbine with a range of 64m so I can sit waaaay back.

  • I have the launch pistol so I can affect multiple targets in a 6m radius at 45m ( Great when a TKA or Pikman is tanking with multiple critters chomping on them )

  • I swap to a FWG5 for35m and closer for the damageand when things go to heck and I'm running around rooting as many as I can to try to get the critters off my friends

  • When all else fails, Feign Death

Rifles definitely rock! Just be aware of a few things when making these decisions:

1) Unless they were fixed last night the most powerful shots for Rifles are broken. Sniper shot and Cover/Conceal shot are broken and have been broken since the CU went live. We're hoping for a fix but so far....

HeeHee we found this out last night when another MRM and I tryed to Conseal shot a Kimo.. Luckly the docs were fact on the heals and the other group members got their attention fast.

2) Ranged and healers get attacked more frequently. Rifles have a knockdown (it looks like you're hitting them with the butt of your rifle which is a great moment for some jokes if your rifle is nearly as big as you are) so this helps but for a dancer/healer combo... you might be in serious jeopardy here.

What is the knock down attack? I havn'treally messed with the specials much.

If you go with a ranged profession be certain to let your hunt partners make the first attack. If you fire first you'll draw the full attention of the target.

I just set Improved Head Shot as my default attack and then attacked them after they had been damaged a good bit, to prevent them from tunring on me

Also, consider getting a combat droid or non-ch pet that can help keep the target at range for you. In fact a combat droid or non-ch pet might be very useful for those who have no combat skills to help defend them when they are traveling.
