The only real problem I have with the AFK entertainers is when they spam asking for tips...

I also feel bad for the players that come to a big cantina like coronet, for buffs and it's just the afk entertainers. I have mastered dancer with out going afk in the cantinas, except for quick potty breaks. When I wanted to macro overnight, i stayed in my house, out of the way. For most of my dancer xp i stayed in the cantina in my home city...however when i was 4/4/2/4 i realized i needed something a bit more busy, so i shuttled to coronet. I got alot more xp andmade alot more money giving buffs than i had in my home city, because when characters would come in shouting " I Need aMind Buff" no one would answer...except for me.

So i guess in a way i should thank the afk ...you give me moremoney

Vine, if you cannot read for some reason, please don't use messageboards. The question you have asked is answered in at least one, probably more posts in these seven pages long thread. If you are sick of reading opinions, maybe messageboards aren't your thing.

Ok people, this was necroposted. This particular horse has been beaten...then beaten again...then kicked...then carved, diced, sauteed and served as a feast over a month ago. Whatever new and intriguing pearls of wisdom you feel you need to post on this topic, we've absolutely heard it before. Several times before. Many times before. Over and over again. Long before you hit that 'reply' key. Let it go.

To be fair to the previous poster, and to clarify, my disgust is reserved for those who AFK publicly in cantinas and such. Macro in your basement all you want, I understand this profession is slow in progression and people like to make progress. That's not what the original poster was talking about, of course.

Your solution is given in bad faith, you should know well that it is more difficult to get the healing xp. So you essentially are advising people to waste their time.

I was on Dath yesterday and had all kinds of mind wounds and BF built up. Thankfully there were 3 AFK entertainers there to heal me.

Cheers to the AFKers everywhere!!

I know my opinion won't matter a whole lot because there are already tons of replies on this thread but this is the way I see it...

I started playing the game on day 1. I used to go to the cantina for healing and see "my" musician and "my" dancer. I'd watch them and listen them to get healed, while talking and having a good time, and then curtiously tip and be on my way. I used to enjoy going to the cantina and there being a couple of musicians in a group playing a tune together and it sounded really good. A lot of the times, I would even hang out in the cantina after my wounds were healed just to relax to the music.

Well, then, I just got upset at the ongoing bugs of the game and quit for a while. I just recently came back in the middle of this whole holo-grinding craze. I'm not sure if you have ever walked by the Coronet cantina...sure you have...but it actually freezes up my computer for a whole 5-10 seconds just to load everyone that is inside the cantina. I go in the cantina now and click on a musician to listen to, who is AFK of course, and the music I'm hearing is so horrible that I have to turn off player music and put on my own music. The dancer, hell...I just pick the closest one to me...usually I go for the Master Dancer b/c I'm looking to get out of the cantina as soon as I possibly can. Brings up another point of why in the hell would you AFK macro dance if you are a Master Dancer? hrmm...

My point being is that pickles is absolutly right about everything...the cantina used to be an enjoyable place to go and relax...entertainers used to be able to make a buck and socialize with people in peace. Now, I look at the cantina as a horrid place of AFK spamming people...half the time I can barely even see where I'm walking. Of course I rarely ever tip now because half the time I go in the cantina, no one ever greets me and I rarely, if ever, see the same friendly faces that I used to "back in the day." I think AFK macro dancing has totally destroyed the cantina scene and the entertainer profession as a whole. The whole thing that sucks about it is, that there is not a **edit** thing that people who actually enjoy entertaining can do about it.

In my opinion... the problem isn't with the AFK'ers. The problem is that the devs need to implement something for dancers to do that they can't do while AFK. Crafters can't AFK macro their way to riches and glory. Neither can combat characters. So, dancers need something they can do (other than roleplay) that requires personal action and not some macro. Until that happens, you're correct in saying there's little difference between an AFK dancer and a normal dancer other than the attentiveness of the person behind (or not behind) the keyboard.

Enough is enough. Someone earlier in this thread made some comment that healing was being done beofre the afkers took over. I have to cry bullsh*te on this one. I played an entire month before I found a healer in keren or kadaara. Yep, a whole month!! I hated not being able to find one (and being new, I didn't know they only hung out in 2 cities). One day, 2 afkers took up residence in keren's cantina. What a relief! I was doing my crafting missions running all around keren, and some round trips to kadaara. Never ONCE saw an an atk entertainer. Not once. It was just as bad as docs/medics. I took that up after getting most my artisan line. I played atk medic/doctor in kadaara for several weeks, before switching to crafting again. Nearly the entire time, I was the only healer around. I started traveling, and guess where all the atk entertainers were to be found??? Only in the big big cities.

Now I have a dancer. She is atk most the time, but also in the theed cantina. When I have enough xp, I will travel to an advanced planet, or lonely outpost. Most my time will be atk, but I WILL certainly leave myself afk some of the time. It was never about the tip money, I am also doing tailoring for the cash ( and making quite a pretty credit doing it too). I do it because I remember never being able to find someone to heal my wounds/bf.

Ive been with the game pretty much since the start, and I must admit that the atmosphere in Cantinas now isnt very good.

On the other hand...

I think its pretty pointless to go on complaining about AFK dancers and musicians, and trying to make out that they are bad people in some way.

Blame SOE... I bet 95% or more of the afk entertainers are doing it because a holocron told them too. If you dont particularly enjoy the working the cantina, then why on earth would you want to spend dozens of hours in there atk?

I think you will see that as soon as they replace the holocron system with something else the cantinas will be able to return to what they once were... people enjoying the social element of non-combat game play.

Well, look at it this way, I've not seen many new threads about AFK dancing. People keeping breathing life into this monstrosity of a thread. It's a nice little garbage dump for people to come in, speak their piece, and leave. Better this thread that keeps showing up than whole new ones.

BTW, I have to reiterate an earlier point (because as Pickles pointed out, there's nothing new to say now) that AFKers will not disappear when the holocron system changes. They've had AFK since Day 1. It's just that in Day 1, not enough people realized how to make such a macro.

But the problem should lessen when the combat bunnies can throw off their dancing shoes and rejoice. The cantinas may be slightly better. But maybe the damage has been done and now AFK is the only viable means of providing healing. We all know some real entertainers who won't be coming back *sigh*
