Thread: Falling and Stat Migration

I don't believe that anyone has convincingly established a connection between character stats and falling. It's just something that happens. I've spent an entire evening with no falls and on the next evening fallen as many as three times in a row.

Personally, I think the whole falling thing is annoying and detracts from the game. It was something that was tacked on during the last 2-3 weeks of beta, with no explanation of why it was added except that it seemed to amuse the developer in charge of the entertainer profession. I've repeatedly challenged the devs to explain what they think this "feature" adds to the game and, predictably, they've chosen not to respond. Maybe Ravenmist could wield a bit more clout in that department. Apparently they think dancers needed a "critical failure" feature. If I remember correctly, there was also supposed to be a version of musician critical failures but it either never worked or they decided that it destroyed any semblance of there being a real tune played by the band and took it out right away.

I have been told about, and experimented with (very limited) a notion that food affects falling. In other words, you never fall if you're full on food and drink.

Seemed to be true to me.I'd start falling again as soon as I wasn't "full" on food or drink, though.

Worth more investigation.

We had 4 master dancers performing at a guild. We all did exotic 4 and we were doing bandflourishes (which looks awesome, by the way). However, about 1 out of every 3 flourishes, one of us fell. That's kind of pathetic. We are master dancers after all. Master musicians never hit a flat note (nor do any other musicians). I fell at least 6 times performing yesterday. I really do not think master should fall as often as they do. I seem to fall more than most novice entertainters...

As dancers, we all fall every once in awhile. I'm pretty close to making Master Dancer, and falling has become less frequent, which is good. The other day, though, I decided to change my stat migration to give myself a little more on the health bar, as I am getting trounced by chubas! (so embarrassing) I would never take away from my Action, as a dedicated dancer. So I took about 100-150 points away from my Mind bar instead, and put them on my Health bar. The next few days I realized that I was falling A LOT more than normal. I need your guys help! Is it because I took away from my Mind, Focus and Willpower? Or is it just bugs?

I agree. The falling is ridiculous! How are we supposed to come up with cool looking dance routines if there's a chance of falling! It messes up the timing and ruins the whole effect.

Either remove falling all together or when you reach Master Dancer have it be a perk that you don't fall anymore. Its annoying and detrimental when someone is trying to choreograph something.

I think the falling business has pretty well spelled the death knell to any organized performances. Back in Beta we routinely did band flourishes in matching outfits and put on performances regularly.

With the falling routines even at Master level the thought of trying to do any kind of group performance is completely absurd. In R/L a dancer that fell even ONCE during a live performance, unless it was an Exceptional circumstance, would find herself looking for a new job that day.

I've ONE dance level from Master and the falling is so frequent that its a sad and sorry joke. I have a bad knee from a climbing accident when I was young, but in ALL my years of dancing, and thats a LOT of years and a LOT of dancing, I have not fallen as much as I do in the game in a 3 hour stretch. And in a closet upstairs I have a box of dancing trophies from my old disco days. And keep in mind that is with a bad knee.

I don't know why the devs have it in for Dancers, but between the falling and the incredibly BAD flourishes that I'd be embarrassed to perform in public, it looks like they REALLY have it in for the entertainment profession.

Maybe they're trying to encourage everyone to give it up and go shoot things.

I agree, Flawed, it's absurd. I fell four out of four flourishes once. That's just crazy.

My signature has been modified to "Amazingly Bad Dancer" until they fix the fall issue. Musicians don't flub notes, why should we fall? It adds nothing to the class, atmosphere, or the game.

So, maybe we can get this brought to the dev's attention (Ravenmist, I'm looking at you) and get some explanation of why this "feature" even exists. Like I said, the only indication they gave in beta for it was that the guy in charge of entertainers thought it was funny. That's a pretty rotten reason to put in something that makes it impossible to put on a flawless show. None of the devs have ever come forward and justified how falling down enriches the game environment. You can't even call it a challenge because it's unavoidable. It's just stupid and annoying.

Sorry,I complained about it in beta and was ignored just as bllithely back then so I'm a bit peeved about it at this point. /BreathDeepAndCountTo100

I agree completely that falling adds nothing of value to the game whatsoever. It -detracts- from fun, not adds to it. It serves no purpose but to make what could otherwise be a very polished, great-looking performance into a mockery. I would like to see it removed altogether, but if not that, than at least take it out for Master Dancers and reduce it significantly the closer one gets to reaching Master Dancer.

It's not even a 'control' put in to slow us down a bit in progression -- you still receive full flourish XP as far as I can tell. It's just a PITA and nothing more.

To fall as a Master Dancer multiple times in a row is simply humiliating! There is no correlation as to when one falls or which florurish sets the falling in motion. There is no timing to it either. There's not a pattern we can avoid nor is there any solution for it. I am trying to train an apprentice and our routines are a joke because of this.

It is my number one irritation with dancing.

I LOVE my job...but this falling as a Master has gotta go!

Slick and Pendarin, thanks for the info! I'm so glad I can bump up my health so I won't get my butt kicked anymore. I still need need to try the food thing. That would be funny if it worked. I'll get fat, but at least I won't fall!

As far as the rest of the thread goes, I completely agree with everyone! If they want us to fall, fine, let the new dancers fall. Whatever. But not the Masters. They worked hard to get where they are and they don't deserve that at all. They should get rid of all falling, critical failures, everything like that. It's crazy! I try not to let it bug me too much, but, really, it's ridiculous.

Its always been my guess since beta that someone at SOE really likes the fact that dancers fall down.

I've never seen any response from SOE as to why the falls are even there.

I've never seen SOE ever respond to someone asking why the fall happens.
