I like the idea of different dances or songs granting different types of buffs.
I also liked the concept someone posted about having a bar across the bottom of your screen that filled as you entertained someone. By figuring out what flourishes to do next (system-assigned at random I would assume), you could make the bar fill, and thus give the buff, faster. OK I know certain folks are going to screech "that interferes with my unbelievably charming, amusing, and creative performance!!" but my thinking was that filling the bar wouldn't be a necessity, but it would give some kind of bonus, either in reducing the time to apply or maybe lengthening or strengthening the buff.
I think there are some other mini-games that they could create that would enhance interactivity and have some type of benefit for both the entertainer and the patron. Things as simple as a little card game or a tic-tac-toe type game that the entertainer and patron could play together while the patron is watching or listening. Or maybe something that they could work together to "build" in order to grant some bonus. Or maybe if you succesfully complete the mini-game there's a random chance that you'll get some kind of bonus - an extra 15 minutes on the buff for the patron, some extra credits for the entertainer, or a temporary effect similar to the holo-emotes (which would work for patrons OR entertainers).
Panthu talked about that maze game from The Sims Online and that's a good example. It's been so long since I played I don't remember it in detail but I know it involved two people working together, one giving instructions and the other making moves, in order to reach a goal and get a payout for both parties.
Entertainers should get to host games in the cantinas or at player events. Kind of like people in Second Life host Tringo games or bingo and such. There's some wagering, lots of socializing, and a fairly simple graphical bingo-type game. SOE should license that Tringo idea, honestly!
I'd love to see dancers offer "dance lessons," that allow a customer to briefly dance with the dancer. Maybe after doing a dance with the dancer in synch for a few minutes, the customer gets a bonus to their accuracy or dodge or something else that lasts a few hours. Wouldn't that be a hoot? You never know, once some of these combatants see how cool it is to dance in synch, they might get hooked on it!
I would want the cantina to be more than a pretty chat room, is the bottom line. Give us those little mini-games. Heck, when it comes to gambling, even if there's no other benefit to them most players will play. People LOVE to gamble.
And if you don't like mini-games, and you don't want to participate, then you don't have to. Keep doing your omgwtfuber dance of amusingness in memory of Bob Fosse, or whatever it is you have going on there.

Those are great ideas. It would also be interesting if they created a quest where you had to have an entertainer as part of the group to distract the enemy. Would be nice too if they could do this at detainment centers where the goal would be to free soem prisoners.

I'd like to see bonuses given when an entertainer is grouped in the field. Not sure how to do this without people just setting an alt or bot on follow but I know many of us are hybrid professions and it would be nice for a bonus to be given for having us in the group since doing sowith the CU changesactually puts people at a disadvantage (I won't have the max stats because that's only granted for full combat). They have a really great harvesting bonus for groups with a Ranger in them, so the concept is already in play. I'm just not certain what bonus we could provide... maybe a better chance at higher end loot?
They made the DWB quest one that got DE and MA out of the crafting room and into the field. It's been described by my DE friend as an hour or so of pure boredom followed by 2 minutes of sheer terror. He's completely addicted now! Perhaps something similar could be implemented for entertainers as well. Had they put the Hutt Casino into place, perhaps certain professions could only get in if they were with us for example. Or perhaps we would have to perform in order for the door to open.
None of the "mini games" ideas I've seen have appealed to me in the least. But maybe they'd be more interesting in action?? I just don't want to become the SWG equivalent of a card dealer. Unless the reward for those playing cards is really something amazing I don't think I'd be the least bit interested in that.

Sounds cool. Maybe make it a random chance for a 5% increase while entertaining. You receive the system message at a random point in time, take the necessary steps, and can suddenly give an extra bit of inspiration to the next 5 people that watch you, or to anybody that listens to you in the next 3 minutes. Live players could shout "Hey! I'm boosting for 5 more pointsat the moment! Get over here while it's hot!" AFKers....don't get the fun stuff, of course.

Well anything even remotely similar to the wretched "your audience is not satisfied" Theater Quest makes me want to run and hide
*grumbles about that stupid audience and what do they know anyway.... but if I could be assured that's I'd be able to fill that bar if I were trying to then I say .. bring it on!
But the more I think about the possibilities the more I want to have something other than the cantina environment. Now perhaps that's a side effect of knowing that as it stand currently they are not going to rid us of the afktainers. No matter how many new skills or abilities they give us, the mere presense of these foul rotting zombies ruins the cantina and ruins my fun. If only we had a way to prove to them that removing those things disguised as entertainers wouldn't leave people "inspirationless" or "buffless"....

Well then, Ms. Pan - you should get yourself over to Til's other thread about food and check out the "feed"back there. . . .

Much like the CU as a whole, the Inspiration buffis a foundational system. We want inspirations to be accessible by anyone at any time. During the development of inspirations we discussed how to reward ATK (at the keyboard) performers above and beyond inspirations. The advanced system will grant the audience even better rewards/buffs by a system that requires focused and reactive performer participation. Any further additions are still in development, so I cannot give any details but performer suggestions are always welcome.
Well, what would reward an ATK entertainer (and/or possibly the patron) for a "good performance?"
Any ideas for future Inspirations or interactive content? He/she mentioned games at one point in the post. I'm not a huge fan of some of the games within this game, but might be open to something that's not too demanding or too necessary.

ok, few random ideas... not sure how good or logical but here it goes...
of the wall idea #1.
After yesterday's explanation of the Inspiration Buffs not being "THE" replacement for our current buffs I am little calm and do actually like the idea. They will be very useful but not crucial so character who didn't feel like visiting an entertainer wont feel "gimped" without them but the one who did visit an entertainer will get a little bonus which may not be much per kill, but will add up over time to nice boost.
BUT this being totally passive same as our healing is, it wont get us tipped anymore then wound healing does now. So beside the warm-fuzzy feeling we wont get much out of it.
This got me thinking... what IF each time an entertainer "inspires" someone of their own faction they get a faction point?
I don't think it would be game breaking or overpowering but it would add little perk for us and involve us in GCW in a small way.
It would still take forever to actually accumulate useful amount of points this way (especially on small servers) but at least we would have a profession related way how to do it.
And technically it would also be RPing related, because you help your troops... you get their better faction standing..
of the wall idea #2.
It kind of elaborates on Panthu's Cantina Manager (hope you don't mind).
I like the part of active ATK versus AFK check, butdon't like the "do /flo #" Simon say part, because what I may be asked to do may not be what I think would fit with the routine I'm dancing atm.
And yes I freely admit the idea came to me while crafting in another game.
We get few new commands, not many.. maybe 3 or so, each being a reaction to something.
Entertainer comes to the cantina, registers with manager/bartender/terminal/whatever that he/she is ready to perform.
Entertainer start doing their thing ... dance/music
Randomly (not too often so it wont drive us berserk, maybe 20 to 30 min random intervals) something would happened.
Entertainer gets the system message of let's say "you about to slip on spilled jawa beer" or "you about to trip on broken glass" or whatever.
Entertainer has 20 or 30 seconds to counter it by pressing correct reaction.
Entertainer reacts correctly, it gets registered with manager/bartender/terminal/whatever.
Entertainer is in zombie-state and doesn't react or reacts incorrectlyit doesn't get registered.
Entertainer is ready to leave, he/she opens the radial menu on manager/bartender/terminal/whatever and selects the "I'm ready to be paid for my performance" option and will get pay out according to how many registered correct responses he/she had registered.
As others have suggested many times over. I also 100% agreethat the AFK tag could not be disabled. Not only because it would make our life easier by not having to spend time adding spammers on ignore but it would also make it much easier for a patron to know exactly who is there and who is faking it. I think those who honestly do prefer ATK entertainers as their first choice would appreciate this too.
Ok, if this is too lame or been suggested already just /bonk me coz I don't feel like running the forum search
