I couldnt believe what I saw today. My wife went to bed early but wanted to leave her character on (Master Dancer) to give out free mind buffs to people that needed it on Dant. So I proceeded to see if I could find a macro for her. Im not a dancer and dont have a clue as to how to make one. So I asked another Master Dancer that was nearby for help. I asked her if she had a macro that I could use. Her reply...My macro took me a long time to make and is not for sale. ???? Seriously! What happened to helping each other? As if I would BUY her macro from her! Ive had so much help from so many people on getting to Master Smuggler and I am grateful for it. In turn I help others. I freely donate my weapons that I no longer use to people who need them. Same with any macro I might have for crafting and whatnot. What happened to common decency and helping your fellow man? By the way I am still looking for a macro for my wife. She doesnt often AFK but when she does she does not expect payment. She just wants to help other people. She has plenty of money.

AFK entertaining isn't of much help to actual ATK entertainers, is it?

In my opinion they are all running the same macro. I dont care if your are ATK or AFK...if your running a macro it doesnt make a bit of difference. If your ATK and running a macro what are you doing? Nothing...watching...so whats the difference?

More than likely the main reason you met with such opposition is due to the fact you intended to leave her running on an AFK macro. Unattended play has been a severe detrimentt o the entertainment community and the majority of those who entertain for the sake of entertaining do not feel kindly toward those that choose to engage in unattended play.
You were, in short, intending to let your wife's character be a bot. If there was a live entertainer there and you asked for their macro with the intention of botting, you very likely offended him/her. I'll note right off that you're probably not likely to get a macro handed to you here either, specifically because the majority of those that read this board support and engage in at the keyboards entertainment and giving you a macro would be enabling you to be an unattended bot, one of the very things most of us despise.
Sorry if you felt like you were being treated rudely or harshly, but think of it this way. You say you are a smuggler, I am too, so you knowthis analogy is coming from someone who knows. What if slicing or FP delegationwas able to be done AFK? I know its not, and I am grateful for that, but just imagine for a moment that it was. Lets do a little hypothetical situation:
Imagine for a moment that smugglers cannot craft spices and the ONLY two ways you have to make money are slicing and FP sales. Now imagine there are people who have set up their Master Smugglers on a slicing or FP macro, set them near a starport or in a cantina or near a faction recruiter, and let them go. Along you come, planning to do some slicing, maybe make a few credits.
You stand there and offer your services, but everybody decides to use the macro-smuggler instead. When you ask them why, they're answer is something akin to "its always here, I know where it is, its reliable," or "well, he/she's afk, so I don't have to tip him/her, I'd have to tip you." I realize you may think "that's not the same," but if you actually had to deal with that day in and day out for over a year, and were expected to suffer in silence, then maybe you'd change your mind and see that it is very much the same.
Now imagine every plea you make to the devs, every cry that Cay and Wes (smuggler correspondents)proclaim to them,to have that AFK slicing and FP sales ability removed to enable you to actually make money doing the ONLY two things your profession is able to do, have seemingly been ignored. I'm not saying they have, you just haven't seen a change so to you, it feels they have.
When you can honestly imagine that scenario, you have an idea of what its like to be a live entertainer trying to live with AFK bots. Thank you for your time, I'm sorry if you felt you were treated badly, but I ask you, is it not possible that the entertainment community has to? Trying to set up a macro for your wife to bot, and then asking for the macro from a live entertainer was the same as slapping him/her in the face.
Have a nice day.

AFK entertainers are essentially NPCs which heal and buff. ATK entertainers may set up flourish macros, but are actually there. I've previously mentioned that I personally hate buff-bots and hope that the devs impliment some method to make it so that entertainer healing/buffing cannot be macro'd.
On a side note, the entertainer you talked to was likely refering to a macro in which you actually had to be present, but keyed sequences of flourishes which look good and flow well. Many true entertainers use these as thier own trademark, and thusly, don't give them away.
Anyway, you're not going to find any true entertainer who will tell you how to make an AFK macro which will let someone run an AFK buffbot; a buffbot anywhere is a problem everywhere.

Since you decided to post this here to, I will give the same response I gave in the Dancer forum, not sure which one you'll look at and hopefully my post explains something that will help shed some light on this.

Im sorry I didnt know I had to be at my computer to run an AFK macro just to make it fair. This game was made with macro's as a part of it. Live with it. There will always be people macroing and there is nothing wrong with that. If you cant compete with it then dont play. My wife wanted to leave her character running because at the time there was nobody around to give mind buffs to the people who needed it. And she wanted to do it for FREE being as she wasnt going to be at her computer. There is nothing wrong with that. Beats having some other person charge 20K for a mind buff that didnt take any effort, crafting, or resources to do. So...bite me.

What? They are the ones jumping down my throat because I asked for help and got hostility instead. There is nothing wrong with what my wife wanted to do. She spent 3 hours at her computer mind buffing people for free and then wanted to go to bed...but there were still a lot of people wanting buffs...so I took over. But I want to play my character...another dancer logged on and was right there so I asked her for a macro. I wouldnt have left my wifes character running with a macro going while another dancer is there. Whats the point? My wife buffs for free so there is nothing to benifit from by doing a macro while another dancer is already there who isnt afk. I just wanted to have the macro in case it is useful in the future. Not my fault that people think that all AFK macro's are inherently bad. Not my fault that people are inconsiderate of my wifes willingness to give of herself freely. And my opinion still stands...a macro is a macro. The fact that your at your computer while the macro is running doesnt change a thing.

The whole point of continuing development in an online game is that things can be made better, and problems solved. Entertainers are meant to be ENTERTAINERS, not bots, and the spread of AFK macrotaining is a problem that should get solved ASAP. There will always be people macroing and there is nothing wrong with that. If you cant compete with it then dont play. My wife wanted to leave her character running because at the time there was nobody around to give mind buffs to the people who needed it.And she wanted to do it for FREE being as she wasnt going to be at her computer. So anyone she buffs for free isn't going to pay another entertainer for a buff, obviously, so it's harming the entertaining professionals. There is nothing wrong with that. Beats having some other person charge 20K for a mind buff that didnt take any effort, crafting, or resources to do. How about the skill point investment? Are entertainers supposed to work for free?So...bite me. And you're the one who took the moral high road in your first post? It's ironic that you're the one accusing someone else of being rude for not giving you a macro, you blame her by name on the forums for it, and you respond like this to a reasonably-worded response to your post.
