Thread: AFK Dancers and Musicans who Macro
1> Please do not stand in the middle of the dancing area, blocking it from musicians and dancers. Please go to a corner and go AFK so that everyone else can have space to perform for customers. Please remember to put your AFK sign on so that nobody will try and talk to you for training or information. Unresponsive people (who have not responded for an hour) without AFK sign usually get booted.
2> This is CRUCIAL when you make your macro DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT use words in you macro! Last night this one guy at the Coronet Cantina did everything right in the first point EXCEPT he had this macro running which kept telling one every 5 min or so to tip the entertainers. Let me tell you, by the end of the night the other entertainers AND the customers were looking for a way to either kill him, kick him off, or probably grief him later. He stayed that way from 8pm when I got on until 3am when I finally logged off after getting my coveted "Master Dancer" title. Actually I believe some people reported him for spamming them.
Being AFK and macroing is fine, but please do it with a thought as to the other people sharing your performance space and to your customers. You won't get tips if you alienate the regulars who grow angry with your macro spam. And the other entertainers will never want to group with you again which will slow down your gain of entertainment xp. For example in a full troup of entertainers (20) the xp you get is nearly 3 or 4 TIMES as much as by yourself.
Thanks!

Well I say this I can guilty of running a macro or two and going AFK, but what I have found I like to do is head to an odd part of town and perform there. I've gone to the Shuttle port and just stood next to it and performed, inside the star port entrance, or from time to time in the theater.
Now I've never heard anyone complain about the first two, in fact people like when I play at the shuttle port since they can listen to my music while they wait for the shuttle. The Theater I tend to do only in the slow hours so that if there is no one in the cantina to heal people they might check in to the Theater sit down and rest up, then go on there way.
Basically I try to stay out of the way of the People who are not AFK and usally try to play in a place where people can't come and listen to me to heal up there BF and wounds. This forces them to go listen to live performers, if they need to heal. It seems to work good and I've never had complaints.
Congrats on getting Master Dancer. I also got the title the other night.
I love the Cantina that I started out in. But most of the dancers and musicians I performed with made master and took off. Now it is full of new people, some of them are great, others seem to be AFK. And they will be smack in the middle of the dance floor.
There was this one girl who would stand there for hours, right in front of the door. AFK for about 25 minutes, active 5, then back to AFK for 25 minutes. How is that even fun? So you get XP to be MAster but what the heck are you going to do with it when you get it? Most of the customers know that she was AFK. When she was doing formal it was the worst because she was taking up the whole dance floor. We kicked her out of the group and wouldn't let her back in until she promies to go on the side. Tha lasted about an hour.
I think I left my character AFK on the dance floor once because I needed to lay down and I was going to /sit but there was a medic who wanted to continue healing me and asked to just keep a macro on, so that's what I did and I put my AFK flag on.
It took me a month to make master. I think these power AFK XPers are missing out on the game. I have met so many great people by talking to them. They have helped me out with training and other info to help with my next career.
Good advice! I would only like to add my own personal policy.
First, know that I AFK macro. I just do it well away from anyone else. I don't want tips and I don't want to take a group spot from an active player. I'm also an active flourisher for four to five hours a night because I trully love the system, and plan a long career as a Musician well beyond Master. I hit both Mind Wound Healing III and Fatigue Healing III well before I even hit Music Knowledge III, so obviously I've spent alot of time in Cantinas. I just want to get the Nalargon ![]()
And this segues into my policy. This rarely happens, but it does come up.
This mostly applies to a group of 20 people.
If I get promoted to Band Leader (or started a band), I make it known that I prioritize Active players and an active Medic over AFKers and long distance travellers. Only Active players get splits of tips I get (a subtle way to compel tipping, but not critical). Active players waiting entry into a full group will get priority over ingame long-term AFKers.
If you're AFK for a bio break, don't worry
You'll have a band and still be playing. You'll get splits of tips.
But if you're AFK for 20 minutes without an up-front reason, or mention beforehand that you're going to bed, or if you want to travel off world to do some hunting, or want to go home, get some resources, sell them after announcing it for 15 minutes in a public area, use the money to go to a vendor on another planet for some uper weapon or bit of armor, and then come back and play music, your spot in the band is at risk. That happened believe it or not. If that was Kor Vella, it wouldn't be an issue. Heck, I've never seen the entire player population of the cantina be more than half a group
But in Coronet or Theed, space is premium.
I don't do this casually, and as I said it rarely comes up, but when it does it's important for people to know that I'm not going to deny an Active Musician/Dancer beaucoup Healing XP in an active cantina so an AFKer can get it. I'm not going to deny access to a Master Doctor/Combat Medic entry into the group to actively track Action points.
As an AFKer, I don't want to bump an active Musician/Dancer or Doctor to support them. I voluntarily leave a group to go off and find a place to quietly AFK. I respect the profession and the players within too much to leech potential off of them.
I just want others to as well.
LOL lora!!!
Ms. AFK taking the entire dancefloor!!! hehehe.....

Also if you're going to be AFK don't expect that people are going to care about how you feel. Don't complain if you get kicked so that a live body can replace you (or for really any other reason). Don't become indignant if the band is playing above your level. Don't think that anyone in the group (or anywhere else in the game for that matter) is anywhere near as concerned about your leveling as you are. Please leave your auto AFK set up. That way people will know that you're not really there and not try and have a conversation with you. Being AFK without putting up the flag is just rude. people will eventually figure out that you're not there but it really makes life easier for all concerned if the flag is there. One last thing make sure you're not the bandleader before you go AFK if you actually want to stay in a group because people will leave your group to set up a group that they have some sort of control over.
Please remember im new and a novice. How do you go AFK while performing flourishes? and if your not performing flourishes and your not in a cantina, why would you go AFK and leave your man there playing a song? You only get musician points from doing flourishes right? Is there some way to macro continued flourishes? while your doing something else?
I can understand going Afk while in a group, and trying to get whatever group entertainment points you can from the rest of the group. ( I dont like the idea, but i GET it.)
I guess i get that point but why would someone go AFK and stay performing if they werent in a cantina or theater, or hotel. and not doing repetitave flourishes? Im missing something here, i realize that.

Count yourself lucky that the macro only spoke every 5 minutes. I often see macros that spam phrases such as "Oh yeah!!", "Shake it!", and a variety of tip begging every 10 seconds. Of course these go on my ignore list on both of my characters ASAP, but it's still annoying.
This is an ever growing problem that is really starting to make me down right angry.
I am not sure how to make it better, those who go afk and "steal" the dance and musician space available in the poorly laid out Cantina's is getting really bad, come on guys.
If your gonna spend your whole dance or music career afk then why bother. I am sorry but the lame excuse that since they have macro's in game thats what they are for. I am sorry but the orginal intent was to be able to create routines and band flourishes. Not so you could walk away from your keyboard while you were at work, spamming for tips dancin in your undies and all the while taking away from those of us who truly worked for our ability.
Frankly i am tired of it. From now on if i get invited to a group and there is even ONE afk dancer in the group, if they won't boot them i will not stay in the group i refuse to "Give" my experience away to a bot EVER again.

Let's NOT turn this intoan Anti-Macro AFK thread. again, Please ![]()
AFK/Macro is completely the way to go, if you have a life, and yet want to earn XP while attending RL situations.
It's NOT rude (I don't think) to do this!
However, it is RUDE to be vocallyanti-AFK/Macro as if you are judging these people to be Horrible persons... They are NOT!
Tips DOES NOT concern me!!!
Healing XP DOES NOT concern me either!!!
What concerns me however IS the Musician XP, nothing more!
That being said...
1) YES I can agree, If you have a HUGE group (say over the limit (20) and you still have people want to join ) you has to Kick the AFK/ina
