I heard a rumor they are yanking the CU because it would be financial suicide, but there's been no official word. But a girl can hope, right?

There have been rumors about such things since the first day it went to Test Center. Until there is an official announcement, I would not buy into it. They would be throwing away a full yearof development and design. Such a decision would not be taken lightly.

They HAVE been throwing away a full year of development and design already. At least that's the impression I get from the comments of some of the sandbox testers who had access to the original design specs last fall. The CU in its current form has nothing at all to do with balancing combat, and everything with taking over a significant part of EQ2's code to ease maintenance. Now that wouldn't be wrong per se, it's just that I get the shivers when I see they want to turn SWG into a level-based game. Or at least a hybrid between the current skill based system and EQ2's level system. With all the bad things there are about this level system, which caused me to stop playing EQ2.

I don't think they can afford to scrap the CU at this point. They are in a very bad position right now - implementing it as it is now might very well be a disaster, but throwing it away and admitting their incompetence even more so. The loss of face for SOE and the hit this would mean on the confidence of their customers could kill this game. Of course, the CU could verypossibly kill this game as well. Bummer.

I'm not sayin anything, I'm just saying that this CU was not the one that was on deck and almost ready for testing mid January...

I can vouch for this. This is very true. Whatever they'd been working on up until early winter had been scrapped. The CU in its current form looks absolutely nothing like the original CU specs.

And, I agree, they're too far into this new CU and the dealine now and there's no way they're going to change it.

there was a game, a very good game (imo), that was three years in development. 9 days into beta 2 the entirety of the game was scrapped. no reasons given, it was just thrown in the crapper. thousands of man-hours down the drain. that game was Wish, that was the game that would have been very likely to steal me from SWG. that was back in january, i still don't think i've fully recovered from it.

The CU in it's current form will destroy SWG as we know it. I fully expect half the current subscribers to cancel within two weeks of the CU going live. This will be the death knell of SWG.

Someone made a VERY bad decision and now it is poised to completely ruin this game.

I think SOE isn't sweating it too bad because they haven't seen too many cancelations yet, tho I did add in 3 just a bit ago. Since many that play this game are blissfully unawares of the horror that will soon be unleashed on them, I don't think SOE will know the full consequences of thier actions, account wise, until a good 2 weeks to a month after the CU hits live. TBH I hope the game goes under now.

If you were playing SWG in 2003 then you know today that its not much like that 2003 game when it comes to combat. The super creature handler uber class combat winner of all time isn't even a much played profession today.

The CU will go into place, but what it looks like a year, months, or even weeks after it goes into place is anybodies guess.

My 2 cents is that this is a publish in front of the new and last Star Wars film. SOE's bet is that the film will generate enough new subscribers as to make the loss of exisitng players meaningless.

If you take that train of thought to an ultimate conclusion it would be:

"Golly, we get enough new subscribers we don't even need the old subscribers. A totally new player base will eliminate people that pine away for the pervious game system."

With that in mind and the fact that from a management stand point it wou ld be best to have one programmer that could do multiple games, EQ2 style here we come!

But, that's just my opinion and talks cheap, heck you didn't have to pay the 2 cents!

Oh- let me add with this edit. I have already ordered ROTW and do suspect that the game while being a bit different will remain fun.

What is this Wish game y'all keep talkin about? It sounds awesome, too bad it got ditched.

Also, where does one go to find out about the status of such new games? Are there websites or magazines about with this kind of information? The only way I found out about SWG was through my boyfriend. He's since quit and moved on to the game that is not named. Depending on how things with the CU turn out, I may find myself leaving as well, but I have no interest in that game. So..can anyone point me in the right direction for other/new/better games?

According to the odds makers in Vegas, the current version of CU will be delivered without any changes...
