Deila said the devs didn't care for the DPT thing so that's why it was dropped I believe. But look at it this way..until Til runs out of friends with open accounts, we've always got him.
I removed my self-proclaimed DPT "title" from my sig recently, actually.
To be honest, I could really care less if the Devs didn't care for it. Deila probably got an earful when she became Corr, I don't know. It's likely they don't have much of a sense of humor, I take it. Or if they do, they don't like getting a good ribbing directed towards them. It really wasn't meant as an insult, and I never intended it to be aninsult. It was just a running gag on the Musician forums, and provided some necessary comic relief for some very frustrated SWG players. If anything, the Devs should thank me for possibly keeping some Musician accounts open for another month or two. I accept certified checks and money orders issuedby U.S. banks thank you very much ![]()
It started in a simple way. We had about a billion things being asked in a billion Musician threads, all begging for a Dev to respond, then shortly thereafter the Dev bashing started when no Devresponded, and everyone got frustrated and then more frustrated, we're ignored, and so on. I was one of 'em. It sucked.
So, eventually after I read through a ton of these posts begging for a Dev to respond, and seeing the anger and frustration build without a single peep from a Dev, I made a new post and declared myself Musician Dev Pro Tempore, andcalled onany real Musician Dev to dethrone me and take their rightful place. Which, of course, no one did. I was really looking forward to one eventually doing so, forum banning me, picturing epic battles of forum-wide proportions, a bitter power struggle, maybe a romantic plot linked in (gotta put the romance in the drama and action, otherwise it's no fun). Oh well. Like I said, the Devs have no sense of humor. Would've made a great short film, too. *sigh*
It did, however, provide an opportunity for people to ask questions they really wanted answered, and they got an answer...from me...which was usually some wise *ss send up of what a stereotypical Dev response would have been (working as intended, we'll get to work on that soon, answers to questions no one asked, and so forth). It was actually a great way to consolidate current issues and concerns, get a few laughs, and forget about the frustrations if only for a little while.
I recently removed the "title" because, to be honest, I don't want to have the word "Dev" ascribed to me in any way. I don't like the way our professions have been treated in the CU, and I think we deserve a lot better. It was at the moment where they backtracked on their AFK stance that I hit "My Profile" on the forums, highlighted "Musician Dev Pro Tempore" in my signature and hit Delete, and never looked back. Sorry Devs, but after that revelation, I didn't want to associate with you, even ifstrictly in jest. It was that disappointing for me.
So, anyways, the DPT thing started with me. I take the blame. Do I regret it? No. Was it silly and disrepectful? Silly, yes. Disrespectful - eh, maybe. The important thing is it kept some Musicians around for awhile who were ready to quit (no idea who actually jumped ship and who stayed aboard number-wise), even made them laugh, and reminded them that hey - things might suck in the game, but at least we can laugh about it a bit and press forward to try and make things better. They got their "Dev" answer, which was better than no answer, and it made some people chuckle - and actually made them feel better somehow.
I've found that very angry people or very frustrated people get to a point where...the situation actually becomes pretty hysterical. I think anger and frustration and laughter are weird like that. Complete rage can sometimes suddenly make you realize just how ludricrous the entire situation really is. Either it's looking in the mirror, or someone making a face back at you - and suddenly you can't help but laugh. Then you deal with what annoyed you with a clearer head.
What can I say, I like to make people laugh.
Other folks can take on the DPT moniker if they like. I was the undisputed Musician DPT for quite awhile - and was never challenged by a real Dev over it. But the flip-flop on AFK by the Devs made me cringe at having the word "Dev" associated with me in any respect.
At leastI made some people feel a little bit better for a little while. And that made it all worthwhile.
If any Dev felt slighted by it, or offended, or annoyed by me...well, sorry I guess. But sometimes you've just gotta have fun and poke fun at the higher-ups. It's what keeps all the corporate cubicle jockeys from losing their minds, after all.

This is true. That's where I am now. I'm not angry. I sort of switch between sad nostalgia and laughter. Seriously. Every time I find out something new about the CU I laugh, because it's so ludicrous. I'm not mad and I'm not offering any suggestions and ideas because I know there's no point. So, I just sit back and laugh because of the absurdity of the whole thing. I don't think I can feel mad anymore because of the hilarity of the situation.

Ah fond memories. I really enjoyed the DPT posts (as well as sneaking into their offices and stealing their donuts). I think this was one of the most funniest ideas off the swg boards (closely followed by forum pvp). Especially the stereotypical q&a threads ("oh mighty dev" - "it is working as intended") were a good parody of how it looks from the common player's point of view. Thank you very much oh mighty DPT /deepbow
