Thread: A turn for the worse?

The more I test the combat upgrade and the more I read from the SoE people about the future of this world I have enjoyed playing in and helping to build with my friends and aquaintences the more I feel like I am not wanted. Today I read about the character respec process and realised that once the CU goes live I will *not* be able to respec my combat character the way I want because of the mechanics behind the process. Also I see that they are now discussing allowing the station exchange to buy and sell SWG gear. This is the first step into turning SWG and other MMORPGs into a game that only the people with extra RL money can get ahead. Instead of actively going after the accounts and players cheating the game by buying/selling credits, items and characters they are just going to make it legit and take a percentage.

I am a mother of three on a limited income. SWG used to be a very low dollar entertainment source that I could enjoy for long hours each month. I am afraid that in the future I won't be able to have the items and content to be able to play with my friends that stay (which I wonder with the respec being what it is exactly how many that will be).

Slowly but surely folks that play for the world building, social aspects, the virtual world sim are being told that we don't matter becuase in the end we just don't spend enough money. Maybe all of the people that have been telling me to get the hell out of their game and go play TSO were right

Is it time to find a new online community and virtual home?

Well DoM... I don't know what to do. Both of my characters as they currently are, are being taken from me. Everything fun I do in the game is being hurt with this "upgrade" and the future is taking a turn in a direction I just can't afford. I wish I could buy advancement like a lot of our Tarq peers but the finacial facts are that I can't. Where does this leave me? I can log in and chat with my friends, but I am doing that on MSN messanger for free. I can pay 15-30 a month to not enjoy myself or I can save that money for a couple of DvDs or something

I just wish that they would support the game I bought and have invested so many hours and dollars playing.

I'd say get some sleep, rest up, and charge in again. It's just very strange seeing the fiery Else talking give-up.

If they give us back fourteen points of sp for the mind wound healing tree since there won't be mind wounds any more ( I mean, that would be FAIR...) we may be able to do some more with this. Or maybe they'll REALLY WoW and just make everyone able to dance and we can get back, oh, sixty zillion points.

If all fails, let's both become bounty hunters and go hunt Lazaris for fun! Even if we get pwned it'll be fun, he's a cutie!

I think what has her upset is this:

http://eq2players.station.sony.com/news_archive.vm?id=457§ion=News&month=current

I didn't see anywhere listed it including SWG also. Or does it?

But whoever did think of this BS is smoking some very, very bed junk....

From what I gather, this exchange is taking place between people only. It would be far worse if you had the option of paying SOE for some credits or items. And, if that ever happens, you better believe your sweet hiney that I will cancel that day. I'm very serious about that one. I believe that what you have in game should be earned in game. Exchanging between players is a little trickier. After all, everything that can be exchanged has been earned somehow by a character in the game. Of course, I would most likely look down on somebody if I found out they did this (that's just who I am.). But, I can't say I'd be extremely upset if it happened, because, again it doesn't affect me. But, the second that advancement becomes paying SOE extra money...that I will not tolerate.

Of course, this leaves the question of AFK. And, people can get stuff afk. Bots can stand there and earn hundreds of thousands of credits afk and sell them. That's inherently unfair.

It kind of reminds me of the fact that the devs allow afk to begin with for the same reason they're allowing this exchange. All I can say is that SOE is comprised of a bunch of wimps who can't figure out what makes a game good. Yet another reason I doubt I'll ever buy another Sony product again.

This service seems to only be offered on EQ2. It also is only going to be offered on certain servers, and if you don't want to be on a server that allows this, they will transfer your character to another server for no charge.

They say that 40% of CSR time is spend dealing with people who sell items for RL money and have one of the parties renig on the deal. If they give a secure place for people to do these transactions, then people who don't use the service can be told that they're out of luck.

Hopefully, they won't offer this service on the server where I play.

It already has it's own forum so yes, it's here for SWG too.

as I understand it, they have a forum here on SWG because they wanted feedback for all SOE games. currently station exchange is only available for EQ2.

If it was EQ2-only, why not give it an EQ2-specific name, like.. say... "EQ2 Exchange"? Its coming. They're following the usual SOE tactic of "asking for comments" while preparing to "shove it down our throats".

Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!

If it improves the function of the trade forums... THAT might be a good thing. If it involves shelling out money straight to SOE for a pile of credits (or worse, something crafters can make), that gets the big double thumbs down from me.

they've reassured people many times that they're only being the middleman and handling the transaction process. they won't be providing any of the goods for sale.

don't worry about it too much for now even in EQ2 they're only doing it on specific new servers.
