Thread: how do you all deal with the nasties?
I'm getting sick of the... "are you a real girl in R/F?" "what to go somewhere and get to know each other better?" blah blah. I can't say what I usually get asked here. when this stuff starts happening I put up the AFK flag and stay that way till they are gone.
How do you handle it? At times I say I play SWG from the state pen and my real name is bubba this at times works, but some seem to know that I am a girl in R/L I have no idea how they figure that out.
In general, though, do a sanity check on your appearance and behavior. Women who dress and act like flirts may get the tips, but they also probably get the harrassment.
As for guessing whether you're a woman in real life, it's not that hard. While it's never a sure-fire thing since some people are truly excellent role-players, most are not. Personality, how you dress, how you act, the language you use, your mannerisms all provide clues that any student of human mannerisms can pick up upon.

Heehee!
I know the feeling. My token response to that is: "Are you going to stalk me if I say yes?" A subtle, and somewhat humorous way to let people know that I'm a girl, and that I'm not interested in contact outside of the game.
Well when I go afk its just I get tired of dealing with them. I don't act like a prostitute, nor do I dress like one I usually wear full body cover and stay away from those exotics.
I see others dancing doing the "arches like a cat", winks suggestively etc but not me. I usually just say hello, ask what they do or what they've done say thanks hun or something like that and thats it.
Keep in mind this is a role playing game and cantinas were set up to be social centers. An aspect of this is the "singles scene" which is going to be present in every such situation. Perhaps you view your time in a cantina as strictly a platonic job, but personally I view it as a social occasion where I can meet new and interesting people. If you don't want the attention and don't want to be hit on, I'd suggest not performing in a cantina.
If you're talking about being harassed, that's one thing, but the dialogue you stated above is not what I'd call harassing. Do they not take no for an answer?

Don't say "thank you", say "Sweet dude", or "Hay thanks man for the tip". (hehe, j/k, but it would work) I have been playing these kinds of games since 1996, an after a while, it comes second nature to you who is a woman and how is a man. As pickles stated, it’s not hard to figure out after 2-3 hours of play. Sometimes 5 min. It’s even easy to tell the guys trying to trick you into thinking they are a woman. That one is easy because almost all real women don’t want you to know, so most of the obvious sighs are hidden when you first meet.
Another reason I can tell is I NEVER NEVER NEVER flirt with anyone I play with. This is a game, not an on-line dating service. If you meet your mate here more power to you, that’s just not me. Once women figure that out about me, they have no problems telling me there a woman in RL (that’s how I know my success rate at guessing
). I am a guy btw, as if you couldn’t tell lol).
I will tell you the single best way to cover up that you’re a woman, works 99% of the time. As much as you probably don’t want to do it, play a male avatar. For some reason men never even try to guess if a male avatar is a R/L Woman. I am less likely to suggest that in this game, esp. if you’re a dancer. If you play a male avatar, and slip up and say “Thanks hun” or something of that nature, you will get targeted as a gay man. I am not suggesting there is anything wrong with that in RL, but the only reason for this post was to have suggesting on how to NOT be harassed, and that will get you harassed even more. I know, one of my friends is a gay man and played a male avatar in the cantina. He stopped playing the game because of the comments he was getting, and the all around greefing over his lifestyle.
Anyway, in future games, or if your gona play this game as a fighter. Make a male char and you never again will have to worry about it ![]()
Actually I differ with you here Pickles. She is not in a bar, she is sitting at home on her computer. If the other player said something like “Hay pretty woman, let’s take this into the back for some more ‘personal’ entertainment” I would consider your argument. Even though that might be an inappropriate comment, it’s an RP one. Something someone in a bar might say to a half necked dancer in a bar.
Anyone who is a good RP’er never cares the gender of the player controlling the avatar. If there asking, there not RPing.
/snog them.
/snog their pets.
/snog the guy next to them.
then challenge the lot toa duel and if you lose, call them @#% losers and repeat. you could probably macro it. don't ask for help on this board though.
None of this changes the fact that the cantina is perceived to be a social mecca for any city, and you're an attractive female (I presume) dancing in it. You're bound to get attention and you're bound to get hit on, either in character or not. I'm not going to judge whether this is appropriate or not, but in my mind it's completely expected.
My humble advice is to seek out a good image designer and have them make you unattractive. Problem solved.

Hehe I don't mind innocent flirts, I just get sick of all the licking suckling, hey are you a real chick? I think you are how about us going to my house blah blah.
I never flirt, I never say hi baby, I never act seductivly
