Thread: Dance Pole

many dancers ask for a pole to dance around on the stage...
I was thinking it'd be great if dancers could make an item called a dance pole that they could 'use' anywhere just like musicians can 'use' nalargons and omni boxes... they could even add a new dance for master dancers which would make use of the pole

Post this idea on the Dancer forum too, I can't remember if its on our wish list. Apparently/Supposedly the devs are thinking of adding props for dancers. I kinda thought about suggesting this, but worried it would sound too much like a stripper thing. Chairs might be cool too!

I don't know, what do you think? I think I could dance with a pole as a prop and keep my clothes on and still entertain. Sounds like a good idea IMO.

I'm sure noone would force you to dance round a pole mealwyn and brand yourself as a stripper :/

Though at the same time I could see dancing poles being a great atttraction to any cantina, great idea in my mind

Ah yes, another reason for people to treat us dancers as sex objects. As if there isn't already enough of that treatment. Sorry, but BOO to your idea. Nobody makes me cyber either but that doesn't mean I want to dance next to somebody that is. Props would be one thing, but personally I think a pole would simply take away from theminiscule sliver of respect that the dancing profession still has.

Of course, on the other hand, it would probably get ya'll more tips and free stuff. Which is of course all that matters to some dancers.

OMG you all that are saying that my idea is sleazy, or that it degrades dancers need to get your mind out of the gutter!

I did not at all imply that I wanted to see some strip show or anything like that

if you haven't seen a classical dance show in real life that makes use of poles and other props then you need to get your head out of the radiation box, and go outside...

PTROOO - stooop, halt lol..You assume that everyone next to you will cyber? Well you dont need a pole to do that so you must in fact assume that everyone on the dancefloor cybers except you =)

*Chuckle* For me it would just add a different level of entertainer value..And no, dancing around a pole wouldnt automatically make you a stripper. What do we have to show anyway? Some really uggly white granny panties?

I'd love a dance pole among other dance gadgets, it adds more flavour to the whole thing.

No. I do not want a dance pole.

How could you dance around a pole and not have "stripper" come to the minds of people watching? Especially since so many dancers wear fleshwraps and leotards.

Some of us might dance that way. Many of us don't.

Personally, I am in favor of the dance pole idea. It does indeed open up a whole new style. Just because you swirl on a pole in lyrical rhythm, it does not automatically make you a stripper. Lets face it folks, there is already enough sleeze action going on in the cantinas without a pole! LOL The pole is NOT what makes a dancer sleezy or distasteful. Its the person behind the character and how THEY choose to play their character.

Funny story ... I was a Master Dancer in Bestine, and I grouped with a bunch of entertainers to do my Masterly duty of helping my fellow entertainers gain exp. There was one little female dancer over in the corner who was dancing for a table of gentlemen. No I tend to talk it up to the players in the cantina watching me. And we all make jokes in group chat. We were all having a good time, doing our own thing .. when all of a sudden, the mother of all mistells comes across GROUP chat. Oh yes, she was working for her money alright, but it had NOTHING to do with her dancing skills. That poor little dancer in the corner got more than she barganed for. Just about all of us in the group, when we were done laughing, were talking to her about how dangerous what she was doing was. How she didnt know the age, or the mental state of the person in which she was "working" for over there. The funniest part of it all ... her last comment was .. "But I made 3k for that". So sad. ROFL ... My comment to her was ... "Honey, I make five times that and never have to drop my fleshwraps". The moral of the story here is .... it depends on the PERSON behind the character. In no way, shape or form does it mean EVERY dancer is a stripper, twirling on a pole or not. I have seen some VERY tasteful jazz dances in movies and on broadway that entale the "twirling on the pole".

Yes, I agree, I think the pole is a great idea! Some other props should be considered as well ... pompoms, ribbons, chair ... lots of good ideas that would completely open up a whole new realm to the dancing profession! Its a good thought.
