Thread: Non-Controversial Dancing Enhancements
I would REALLY like these mentioned to the Developers if they haven't been.
I don't think any of them are controversial. I don't think any dancer or non-dancer would be shocked, dismayed or disappointed that we have them.
They add something to the Dancer Profession by allowing us more creative tools to work with what we have.
They only involve entertaining. No one is forced to incorporate or do them.
1) Adding a Bandflourish command of /bandflourish changedance xxxx which like any bandflourish for dancers can be turned off or on. This allows a coordinated group of dancers to simultaneously change from one dance to another if already synched. Musicians have their equivalent, doesn't seem like a far stretch to ask.
2) Add a /dancemirror or /coupledance option that auto puts people into a /bandflourish situation but using emotes that allow them to dance together. Possibly use if for new dances to expand our repetoire. Give dancers a Waltz to actually waltz to, Give us an interactive ballet, give us an interactive popular or something.
3) Allow the dancer to move, change, pivot, reposition for three to five steps and remain dancing or give us a /pause dance command that allows us to move and then resume so we can watch our spacing, dance around people, dance around objects, choreograph better.
4) Allowus to dance with a prop.Give us the ability to make something a prop then perhaps give us a /danceprop1 from inventory and let us show our prop. Be it a veil, a chair, a cane, a fan, a cape, a mirror, a boa, a birdcage, a sishka whatever.
5) Give thought to matching the music that musicians play with the dances we can dance allowing for choices and variations between.
The /band changedance and the group lightshow ideas are both very good ones, and seem like they could be easily implemented. I agree fully with these.
The other ideas would take more time and effort, so while cool, I would put these on the backburner for a while.

I like the idea of a skilled dancer being able to lead an unskilled patron on a walze dance. This being somehow coupled with an over time buff could be really fun and add depth. It would also give a very very good roleplay background for the directed buff idea because of course the person dancing with the dancer must feel better than somebody just watching :-)
Maybe dancing with a master dancer could also give some skill buff to merchants, e.g. improving their advertisement skills since their status in the society might increase when people see them in such good company :-)))
Well, I guess I took this a bit towards the possibly controversial ideas. But I think the idea of a partner dance alone is not controversial but really fun :-)

Tandava's points would go far to changing us from a soloing class where no group coordination is required to more of a group class, which most of all helps those of us who take entertainment gigs. It's nearly impossible to coordinate dance steps with lag and human response time being what it is.
/groupstartdance
/groupstopdance
/groupchangedance
... all would at least put us level with musicians in this respect.
As for props, I want to dance with my pet snake Slinky around my neck, kind of like Selma Hyek in From Dusk til Dawn, but maybe that's a bit much to ask ![]()
All great ideas and I think I've brought them all up before but It definately wouldn't hurt for me to nag some more. I think I'll go cut and paste this post here and drop it in his lap. Thanks a lot for posting this. Never hurts to remind me of the simple things sometimes when I've been focusing on such big issues as our buffs and missions. ![]()
One thingI will note tho, the staves in this game make great props and actually seem like they where intended to be used as such sometimes. (Lyrical 2 looks fantastic with them, you twirl it.. wrap it behind your back.. all sorts of cool stuff and it hardly collides with you) I'd love to see more good props to use tho and I'd like to see the movements and collision problems fixed/spiced up to make it look even better. Will mention this for sure and maybe if we're lucky they'll be including some of this in their new mo-capping.

/cry thank you! I wub you!
Thank you so much Ravenmist and I definitely agree with the group spotlighting and group start or group stop dance commands.
I don't think anything beside props and couples requires extensive things here. Ultimately I think our problems can be solved with less work than other professions since "game balancing" is rarely an issue with entertainers.
That and we can be easily made happy, look at the shirtless add...
Motioncapture, concern for our community, more dances and little things like this make me happy I'm an entertainer.
When I gig out with a good band, often times people are amazed at what we can do. They've never seen coordinated light effects before, they've never seen people organizing song and dance changes before. I think the reason is that it's not an easy thing to learn to do well. Adding all these commands would make it such that anyone could coordinate these things with the push of a button. It would remove growth after mastery...the growth of learning how to really perform well...and replace it with game mechanics that make it trivial.
Right now to put on a unique performance, it involves every member of the troope being at their keys and paying close attention. Now you'd like to simply have every dancer except the leader sit back and sip a drink while one person does everything by coordinating all the effects with a single button press?
I say no. I say let the real entertainers stand out by what they can do with the tools given them. Let's not make our profession so easy that a monkey could sit at a keyboard, press random keys and put on a spectacular show.
