I hope no one minds but I've asked the fighters of starsider (my server) to come here and shed light on what thier opinions of dancers and entertainers is. I just want to clarify if the whole "we are not respected as a class" thing is true. I really don't think it is. I could be wrong. I guess if it works and they post here then we'll have a bit more of a definitive answer to weather or not AFK dancing is really causing the issues we think it is.

The point here is to prove or disprove the theory that the dancer proffession is disrespected due to afk ,macros. I strongly suggest that someone from each server start a similar thread and maybe we can get some true information and not just the perception of the dancers.

I mean no disrespect to anyone or their opinions but i'd rather work with something a bit more solid than "well i heard this and they said that" So I 'm asking directly to the soldiers and hunters what do you think of dancers and the work they do?

IMO the dancing and musician professions have been cheapened by AFK/macro performers.

WOOT!!!! I agree. I run a macro but I am sitting there 100% of the time. I only macro cuz if I don't I end up missing tells/talking/thanking for tips/looking around.

Sue me I'm not that multi talented . But I assure you when I reach Master I will beable to stand proud because I earned it. What I dislike the most is walking into the cantina seeing 5 entertainers there all afk. I go and sit so to save me action bar for clients. They walk in and before I can stand they are already watching THEM!!! I tell them they are afk BUT they just say "Too bad for them they do not get a tip then"

Well that doesn't help me if they are not watching me. I need wound healing exp as well. and i AM there AND can actually USE the tips. Then you see those same afkers bragging how good they can buff cuz they are Masters. Yeah your a Master but that is because you can write a macro and afford to have your computer online 24/7.

I would GLADLY give up my macro if they disable macros when dancing or playing insterments. I might have a few people upset with me for no answering them/no thanking for tips/and unable to greet new arrivals but I'd give that up to see people actually WORKING for the entertainer exp. I mean when was the last time you have seen an afk weaponsmith/armorsmith/architect/artisan(expect for survey)/tailor/chef/any combat class/etc etc etc. EVERYOTHER class needs to be there how come the entertainers get a free ride?

I think AFKers definitely cheapen your profession in the eyes of others, especially those AFKers whose macros ask for tips. That smacks of, "Hi I'm not actually putting any effort into this, but give me money."

i came here at Silly's request...

i don't mind AFK entertainers...and i have respect for them all

i had entertainer skills at one point and thought it was great! and have loved entertainers ever since. in general, i have found MANY more reason to lose respect for other classes than i have ever found for entertainers...

not to getoff subject, but i am much more put-off by the entertainer who strips downand starts licking me than the one that is AFK...please don't lick me...

*puts wallet back in pocket and runs from cantina screaming...wishing they were AFK instead*

but seriously, their primary purpose is to entertain and heal...how could that be bad? AFK or not...if i walk into a cantina and an entertainer heals me for 50% mind wounds and 300 bf...i am happy...maybe a little lonely, but still happy...

"heck, ican't waitfor a cheerleading profession...sort of a squad leader that will bust out a victory song after a good kill that you instantly hear, kinda of like the squad leader messages!"

oh, but one thing i don't like about AFK entertaining.../say macros! very annoying and does not add any entertainment value...if you are AFK, please just be AFK...

oops, i wrote to much, gotta go!

I know there are some good ones, but when they are a jumbled mess in a cantina with no organization, dancers on top of one another and facing the back wall... I just laugh, I wonder where their pride is.

I don't mind afk entertainers.

Of course I prefer an engaging and witty dancer and musician team that I can chat with in a role playing fashion and I will tip accordingly. I respect dancers for choosing a profession where you can't set a fee for your services.

I don't often tip afk entertainers but sometimes during off hours when there is nobody around it is nice to have an afk entertainer there to heal you up.

Using macros has it's place that's for sure, all professions use them. And besides how many other professionals did nothing but grind to get to master?

i really have no problem with AFK dancer, think of it this way.. you dance to heal people... so all you do is stand, and dance... so why not be productive. by standing and dancing, and doing other things in life. i think.. deal with it.

I personally don't think AFK dancers have hurt how we are looked upon in the game, but that's partly because we were never really thought highly of in the game in the first place. Remember early on the dispute was whether we deserved tips for what we did because we were getting experience. Some (not most or all) combatant classes saw battlefatigue and mind woundsmainly as a contrived nuisance that the developers created to justify the entertainer profession and cut into their gaining experience time. Some argued for there tobe entertainer bots that they could just pay to get rid of their BF and mind wounds rather than sitting in that time sink known as a cantina. Some see us as nothing more than prostitutes with whom they can engage in a racous few minutes of cyber-sex.

For the most part though I find that it's not the class you play that causes you to be disrepected, but rather the disrespect comes from some dysfunction in the individual that sees you as less worthy. Put another way: if someone disrespects you for being a dancer, the problem is not because you are a dancer. The problem is because there is something wrong with that particular person.

I have no problems with AFK dancers as long as they don't have anysay macros and they have the courtesy to move off to the side so that the live dancers can have the floor. They can even be in my group although if the group is full and a live dancer wants in I have no problem booting the AFK ones out. It does not bother me if people would rather look at an AFK dancer and not tip them to get their BF/mind wounds healed. There are things an AFK dancer cannot do that a live dancer can.

I do a lot of travelling and hunting/missions. I tend to get beat up occassionally (don't we all?), but my hours are different to most peoples due to the fact that I live in Australia.

I have had buffs fromSilly, and I think I tip reasonably well (there will ALWAYS be someone better).

I for one REALLY appreciate it when I walk into a cantina on one of the tougher planets and there is any entertainer there at all. It irritates when I walk into a cantina in a place like MOS Entha and find... NO ONE, except several ppl looking for an entertainer.

It seems that the only place to reliably find one is Coronet, anywhere else.. pot luck. Even places like LOK only have an entertainer on rare occassions.

My point being, when I find any afk Entertainer in any Cantina other than Coronet, I tip them 100 to 300 creds, just to say "Wow I appreciate the fact you are here".

If I walk in and they are an active entertainer, they get between 500 and 2K creds from me. If I walk in.. see an afk, start watching and then realise that there is an active entertainer, the afk'er will still get 100 creds, but I will then watch the active one and they will get 500 to 2K, depending on how hurt I am.

If I get a buff I will pay between 3K and 6K for that. and that means if I get a Dancer AND a Musician Buff I will pay up to 12K.

I also tend to tip multiple people if they are there... no that doesn't mean they get 100 creds each, generally about 500 to 800 each.

When I am cashed up, my tips are higher, if I am a bit poor after paying for my harvester addiction, then the tips aren't quite so good, but I still tip where ever possible.

Please keep us entertained.

I used to avoid cantinas whenever possible and only go when absolutely necessary to heal, so I didn't care if entertainers were afk. But I have come to love dancers so much that I don't even clone anymore so that when I get incapped I have an excuse to go to a good cantina. So it is especially disappointing to travel to a cantina, walk in and only find a dancer who is afk. When that happens, I leave even if I have to travel to another cantina. The afk thing doesn't really lower my opinion of the class as a whole, but it makes me really appreciate the entertainers who prefer to interact with their customers.

I think AFK dancers have greatly cheapened the profession, especially since the addition of /denyservice. I see people come in and insult entertainer and show them no respect, and not tip, why? because what does it matter when there is an AFK dancer standing right next to the person who is there? People need to start respecting their entertainers and start giving them more thanks for their service, i dont see this happening with AFK dancers there.

I will always watch a entertainer who is there rather than one who is afk. i will not tip a afk entertainer.
