So I'm a bit confused and would like to know just what exactly is the norm for "group". Last night I went into a cantina just to give someone a quick mind buff. While I'm dancing away an entertainer (Let's call her Jill) is shouting that she is in need of a group invite. No one is really responding to Jill and she begins to get quite irritated. I send a tell to one of the people in the group asking for the name of the group leader. Isend a tell to the group leader but turns out he is AFK. I then ask (in spatial) if some of the ATK entertainers would be willing to disband and group with Jill. A coupleof them indicate they'd be willing to but the now disgruntledJill doesn'trespond tothe offer. I finishthe mind buff and then invite Jill to a group. She accepts but before I can even say "I'm recruiting others" she disbands saying in spatial "FSS" (any clue what that means?). Another entertainer (let's call him Jack) enters the cantina and also tries to get an invite to the *big* group. I announce that the leader is AFK and I send an invite to Jack. He also disbands before I can say anything in group chat. Jack then sends an invite to Jill but she asks if there's only one in the group and refuses to join. So we now have one large group of almost entirely AFK entertainers and three of us who are not grouped. I continue my usual style of greeting and interacting with all the patrons as they enter and most run into the room to heal by watching me. Jill says "still looking for an invite... 45 minutes later" to which I respond "I did offer". She gives up and leaves. Jack has now noticed that patrons are coming to me for healing and mind buffs and sends me an invite. I declined the invite (okay it was juvenile I know and I apologize). Now eventually the group leader came back, invited everyone, and made me group leader so that I could keep the group going. Of course Jill had already stomped off so missed out on the group experience but c'est la vie. So here are my questions:
1) why would any group leader go AFK for more than a couple of minutes without transferring the lead? more importantly when did it become acceptable for them to do so?
2) why would an entertainer trying to get the extra experience from a group refuse an invite based on size of the group - especially when their plea to the larger group was going ignored?
I was rarely ever grouped when I was working my way toward Master so perhaps I just don't understand the way groups work.

The rest of the group refused to take the lead when asked (a common occurrence), or a very poor leader. To the best of my knowledge, it has never been acceptable.

Stubborn most likely. Since the XP payout is greater in the larger group, they would rather take their chances that the leader of the larger group would come back, and they could get an invite.

If I'm leading a group and have to leave (AFK is not an option), I'll ask who wants to take leadership over. If I don't get a response, I'll warn the group that I'm disbanding and give them a countdown. If nobody steps up, I disband. - Roho

People do go afk as leaders. They have their group. If most of the group is afk and not going anywhere and it's mostly full...
Me though if no one is willing to take lead after asking for 5+ minutes I /tag in spatial /gs Going to count to 10 and make someone leader. Then I count down and tag someone that I know is atk or at least mostly atk right then.

This is one of the things that irritates me most about entertainer groups... group leaders thinking it's perfectly okay to go AFK while they're still leader. It's infuriating. I would rather disband the group than go AFK while leader. At least then, if someone comes back to the keyboard, they can offer reinvites to the entire group and those with /join commands in their macro can be regrouped.

Lately I've found getting a group invite to be like pulling teeth. The leader is either AFK, running a second account at the time, or not paying attention for whatever reason. Often I have to send a direct /tell to someone I know isn't going to be AFK to get an answer.
Nobody wants to be leader because they don't want to deal with having to give it up when the leave, making giving it up harder.
I usually just pick someone at random. I wrote a macro just for that. It'll cycle through the group members. I start it a bunch of times, then whoever I'm targetting after I /dump gets to be leader. I give warning of course, and give people a time to respong or to jump in and volunteer.
I should probably just disband instead. It might make people more willing to group with the new entertainer that comes in.
I've also seen people turn their nose up at smaller groups and instead go ungrouped. The focus of the big cantinas is almost entirely xp these days, not entertaining.

I stay or disband if I can't get someone to take lead.
This has been normal for a long time now, December maybe? What's so new and weird to me are the Jills that get mad when you are trying to help them. O.o

Perhaps Jill is roleplaying that she's a Prima Donna?
Ah well good to know I'm not so out of the loop as I expected. I saw the exact same thing happening tonight but this time I kept to my corner and opted to stay out of the mix while I just buffed a few people before taking my own missions. People couldn't get invites, couldn't get training... if it wasn't so sad it would have been funny.

I want to know what these new entertainers are thinking by turning down being grouped, even by smaller groups. They're still going to get more xp with two other people who are also dancing/playing than if they're by themselves.

One time I was leader, and I had to split. I ask who wants to be leader, and suddenly everybody was silent, pretending to be afk. So I start talking to ol' R3. "What's that, R3, you want leader? No I'm sorry, R3, that's ridiculous, you're just a droid. I don't care if you can play Virtuoso, R3, we're better than you, even the novices, because we aren't droids." You get the idea, I'm droning on and on like that. Nobody spoke up, so I did it.
That got their attention, suddenly the group was being led by a foam spewing R3 unit, who had no interest in inviting anyone... except other droids. People started volunteering to take leader. "Sorry, it's out of my hands now, you'll have to ask R3...but R3 savors his power." I was so happy as panic set it.
I hope they never fix that. It's a good way to assign leadership if you're in one of those solo groups, because you just disband the droid and somebody else becomes leader.

The droid story is too funny...hehe. I usually do a countdown...I just say ok I really need to leave, now I can either Disband the whole group...or go eeny meeny miny moe..and someone gets to win leader. Usually don't have to go as far as that. The ears perk up when I say I might disband the group. Hehe. And people that know me...know that I don't bluff. I land as leader quite often and frankly some days it can be a headache and a half. When I find I am getting too grouchy due to silly things going on...thats when I decide its time I left...and regained my cheerful disposition.

Just make sure you leave the group before the droid. Otherwise, you get leadership right back.
