Thread: My vote for replacing Poplock2

All the way up through the ranks, I cannot think of one dance that looked more stupid or awkward than the ridiculous Poplock2. Maybe it's because the game forced me to do that - and only that - for max xp all through a full skill box. Maybe it's because I hate Michael Jackson. Who knows?

I love most of the dance animations in this game, but it's hard for me to understand why they would have taken something so dorky as Poplock instead of other dances like Salsa, Flamenco, Jazz, Ballroom, etc. The world of dancing is huge, filled with beautiful interpretations of music in movement. Why pick an animation that looks like you have rogor mortis?

AmI alone on that?

Its not my favorite, but I'd rather have it than Poplock One. I've ignored Poplock TWo with my dancer character for the most part and am about to get to the next skill level.

Like yourself though, I would like to see other dances instead of two Poplocks.

I've seen someone doing Poplock (don't know if it was 1 or 2), and personally, I can't wait! Any dance that makes my male dancer look like anything other than an incredible man-**edit** shaking dork is fine by me. If they added box and liquid styles, I'd be in paradise.

I'm going to make the guess that most people complaining about it are playing female characters?

Maybe replace it with line dancing. hehe.

We were discussing this in the cantina last night. How gunny would it be to see all the dners doing the electric slide of macarena at the same time.

I too hate poplock. I also hate footloose. There HAS to be some kind of dance you can use that at least pretends to be Star Warsish.

Poplock2 is not bad. Footloose has got to go-or at least should be renamed something more descriptive like 'spastic'

I actually loved poplock 2! Get an outfit that compliments it and it's actually really fun. /flourish 3 with some well timed tech effects looks really good

While poplock2 wasn't my favorite dance (I'd actually have to go with popular2 for that) I did like it once I got my timing down on the flourishes. My least favorite dance is footloose but I haven't gone back and done a comprehensive look at the flourishes on it now that I understand how important timing of flourishes is to making a routine look more flowing. The audience normally really likes poplock/poplock2 though I've gotten more comments about them than any other dance style other than exotic (which after 3 levels of tech using exotic I am soooo sick of ).

With poplock I think it is all about the flourish timing. I personally like 2, 3, 1 - give it a go I agree that with such a wide style of dances out there it would be nice to see some more in game - but I figure it will all come in time

I personally love poplock. And with it being one of only a few of our dances thats going to have a full 8 flourishes to itself here soon I'd hate to see it go. I probably get more requests for this dance then any other actually. With a full 8 flourishes I can't wait to see what combinations I can do with this one. (wishes they'd hurry up and put in the update)

With 2 poplocks, x8 flourishes, that's 16 flourish spots wasted on a cultural fad-dance from the American 20th century that has nothing at all to do with the Star Wars genre.

I guess that's my main complaint -- if entertainment is the window dressing in the game, meant to help immerse players in the feel of Star Wars, it's hard for me to picture Obi-Wan break dancing to "Beat It".

If ingenuity is lacking, or there isn't the funding to create completely new dance animations, why didn't SOE go for the more traditional cultural folk dances such as Irish/Scottish folk, Russian or Japanese? The two flourishes we get with Exotic (which, by the way, is by far the most requested dance in my repertoire) and the Lyrical and Formal styles, that's it for generic folk dancing. Footloose, Popular and Poplock are all unique to American 20th century culture, not Star Wars. They are anachronisms in a galaxy a long time ago and far, far away.

I honestly don't expect SOE to do away with Poplock altogether. I'm a realist. However, it would also be fair to say that the better dances are flourish-poor and deserve far more attention than tawdry Michael Jackson imitations.
