Thread: I Just Don’t Understan
I just don't understand. This aversion to exotic dancers acting like exotic dancers. Being sexy, provacative and playful, while wearing outfits that suit such behavior. Plus doing so in cantinas, most of which are sle*zy-sordid dives that all sorts of alien trash frequent.
Look the cantina in Mos Eisley in the first Star Wars movie. What kind of dancer would you expect to see dancing in such a sordid den of violence and corruption. Would its patrons tolerate a beautiful, but conservatively costumed ballet dancer, or welcome a flesh-wrapped beauty doing a steamy sword dance? Not hard to guess the right answer that question.
If SWG didn't want this kind of role play, then what where the art directors and game designers thinking when they came up with the Fl*sh Wrap, Skin Suit, Hot Pants, etc. Recall George Lucas’ choice to employ the Exotic Leotard in the third movie. Just look at the dance moves they designed for the game. Many are created to generate heat in the audience. Everything about the design of the dancer class says that this path is a legitimate choice for female characters.
Like many other men have said in this forum, I don't tip based on how much flesh a dancer shows, but on the quality of their role play. If a female dancer is fun and entertaining, who cares what they are wearing. Just sit back and have fun in the course of the role play. If a dancer is a dull-boring hack, they can dance nak&d for all I care, I won't watch and tip them.
I believe that many people who complain about exotic dancers and what they wear should make an earnest attempt to rethink their concerns taking into consideration what I have written and along with what others have written in kind. Then take a fresh look at what troubles them so. I think then you will find the game, or more specifically the cantinas, more enjoyable as a result. For they are a wonderful place to role play with both customers and entertainers alike.

Good post.
As a player, I don't mind flesh wraps and skimpy outfits. That is one factor of the dancer. I object to the underwear dancing simply because it's lazy. The flesh wrap is much more revealing and sexier than the underwear outfit. Go buy one and play a true exotic dancer. But that's my opinion.
My character is a modest, simple farm girl. She only wore dresses because the other entertainers gave them to her. She does not show off skin. And if someone comments on a near-nude dancer or requests a lap dance, I reply, "If you want hussies, you can find plenty of them in that wretched Mos Eisley!" Okay, so guess what city I don't dance in.
So, in-game, I'll complain about the exotic dancers. In actuality, if a character wants to dance in a ribbon, it's perfectly acceptable.
"If you want hussies, you can find plenty of them in that wretched Mos Eisley!"
Nice role playing. I like the broad view you take you take as a player is quite distinct fromhow you role play your character. Bravo.
I wish more players would follow your example.
You bring up some good points. I play a human and have been wearing mostly gowns lately as I see myself more of a madame to all the lil Twi'lek hussies
Of course even the madame will wear something revealing at times for a special dance number and in reality is the biggest hussie of them all ![]()
Lots of ways to role play ![]()
I've been pretty vocal about my dislike of flesh wraps, so I'll reply to this. Besides I need something to do while my coffee is brewing! ![]()
My 'issue' with flesh wraps, etc is not that they show skin or anything like that. I actually think they're really neat designs, and I completely agree with you that they're exactly what you would expect on an exotic dancer in this setting. However, the key phrase is *on an exotic dancer*.
I would guess that when the first master tailors appeared on my server, 99% of the time the leotards *were* worn by people doing the dance 'exotic'; they weren't perma-afk, they interacted with the customers and yes, they flirted. It was actually a great atmosphere to dance in, and I was really looking forward to learning 'exotic' and some day dancing a small set in the cool outfits I saw in the movie. Now, about 99% of the time when I see a flesh wrap, the person is dancing any of the following dances: formal, lyrical, popular, rhythmic, basic. Said person has a 75% chance of having the AFK flag showing; and there's an 80%chance that the flesh wrap is the *only thing they wear*. These people are not doing exotic dancing, not by *anyone's* standards. I know Flawed Diamond does exotic dancing to any type of dance, these people are not following her school of thought. So, in the same line of thinking, while a flesh wrap is a very appropriate outfit for exotic dancing, it isn't something that I would expect to see on someone who IS dancing a ballet-type dance.
I will make master tailor today, and you can bet that I will make some of those outfits, and probably go to the cantina later and dance. The cantina regulars that know me have yet to see me wear anything less than a small bustier and hotpants. Now aren't they going to be surprised when I emerge from that smoke bomb and am wearing a flesh wrap? It almost makes me feel sorry that the other people haven't left themselves anywhere to go. Then the feeling passes when I remember that most of them were AFK anyway-a tornado could come by and sweep away the cantina leaving them standing there and it's not like they'd notice. lol
So yeah, I agree but I also wish that people would realize that there are other clothes that look good and suit other dances a lot more than a band aid does. How in the heck do you do those ballet jumps without getting a perma-wedgie anyway? ![]()
Finally! A man that isn't going to come here and tell us what we should or shouldn't be wearing! ![]()
I play a Twi'lik and unlike these dress wearing humans I have a wide variety of clothing in my wardrobe. I wear what I think will appeal to my customers more weather it be a short dress or an exotic leotard and have never had any complaints and many comments of how beautiful I am. As for the hussie bit , I don't think so
We are and will continue to be far more superior to the human females in the art of style and dance. You stand there in your stuffy dress while we show you how it's done

Thats right sweety, your no hussie. And your right, Twi'leks are superior.
<see why I make the big bucks?

Twi'lek power! ![]()
I must admit, Ania is a very shy girl and doesn't wear very revealing clothes... though she is buying a leotard for the lyrical and exotic dances (I always wanted one, I just can't help myself!). I really only plan on wearing it for those two dances, and only if it works with the style. I have to agree with Velvet - I like the fleshwraps and leotards, but hate when dancers just wear them all the time! Granted, it is a bit classier than undy-dancing, but the objective for these dancers is the same: to wear the smallest amount of clothing to generate more attention/tips. Besides, nothing looks odder than a dancer doing footloose in a wrap ![]()
Ania'dlin (who finally got Knowledge III! Yay!)

Oh, my character is also a twi'lek, and she wouldn't be caught dead in a flesh wrap. So, put some clothes on before you catch cold. Does your mama know you wear that? My mama would redden my hide if she saw me in something like that.
Some players are amused that I change clothes in a side room instead of on the dance floor (and facing a wall with bottom equipped first so no one gets a sneak peek). Sure, it's just a game, but my character has her modesty.
I like the comment about putting on clothes during a smoke bomb. That never occurred to me. I may have to put some clothes on my hotkey just for that. Hey, I may dedicate an entire bar of hot keys to inventory and smoke bomb. That is just cool!
Nowadays, I find I don't need to use the revealing clothes anymore. I have many people that send me tells to find out where I am dancing. Often they travel to come see me.
So I have moved from using the revealing clothes a lot to only using them for special dances, occasions, or people.
Reputation and Fame are important. A good entertainer will start working on those from day one.

*laugh* Kuildeous, since I have had my fleshwrap I think I have worn it a total of 3 times and not for more then 15 minutes. I bought it to try it out, and I don't really think I like it. I like my exotic leotard much better. I don't even think I mentioned the fleshwrap in my previous post
And no I don't RP a momma's girl so she doesn't know what I'm wearing, and I would laugh at her as I do you if I were to be told to put my clothes on
I'm confidant about myself and will wear what I think looks good. I can't help it if the humans have to call us hussies to make themselves feel better.
