Hey guys! I used to dance a while ago but had to kill off my last character. Well, it's been awhile but now I'm starting to feel that pull again so after I'm done mastering the 2 profs I'm working on now, I'm coming back to dancing. I need a good combat prof to go with it though.
So, my questions are as follows:
What combat prof do you have?
What's it like in pve and pvp?
Do you have any idea about any changes to your combat prof that are going to take place because of the combat rebalance?
I'm leaning towards pistols (done that for a long time, know about, have a pretty idea about changes and have always loved it) and melee. I've done fencer before and an working on swords right now. I enjoy both. I've seen my friends with Tk and it looks interesting. That's why I'm I thinking melee.
I'mneed to be good in pve (naturally, goes without saying I know) but would also like to be able to defend myself inthe cantina against the dorks we come across.
I'm asking about any changes with the CB because I don't like to change my template too much. Anything I pick I would very much like to keep after that happens. I figure posting here maybe an easier way of researching this because you have the experience of entertainer and a combat prof.
Thank-you very much for any help. I greatly appreciate the assistance.

Seems as if there are a lot of dancer/TKM's, myself included. In PvE, TKM is quite good. You do come across some higher level mobs such as certain Nightsisters, (or basically most of the stuff you'll find in the advanced dungeons like Death Watch, or Corvette) that are somewhere around 95% kinetic resistant, which makes us pretty much useless. But, except for those few instances, TKM's pretty much own in PvE. If you're interested in doing those newest dungeons, then TKM won't help you. Otherwise, we rock.
In PvP, however, unless you're lucky enough to beat up on a wookie, or a person who isn't rich enough to get composite armor, then you will often lose...again, due to the high kinetic resists of composite armor, which nearly every hardcore PvP'er will have. I don't usually PvP one on one, but I do find that I can often be of some use in PvP even if it means knocking someone down, or doing some degree of damage. But, for the most part, while we may own PvE, we are some of the weakest PvP'ers because of composite armor.
Changes that are going to effect TKM, however...well, we're supposed to be getting knucklers that give us a different kind of damage at some point, I think, heat. Then at least we'll have more than one type of damage and stand a chance in PvP and the highest level dungeons. Also, I suspect the famed combat/armor rebalance is going to give us a fighting chance in the two areas that we are extremely weak. For the most part, TKM are great. But, as I said above, in certain situations we are almost useless. I suppose it's a fair tradeoff...being uber in one respect and being noobs in another.

I'm dancer and Riflegirl and Rifles at the moment It's pretty good for PvP if you have company to stack while you do Strafe Shot 2 and kill everyone in one shot, just remember to stay away of the people and be a good sniper if you want to try that weird thing

Thank-you very much for the response people. I really appreciate it.
Yes, Silly,I intend on mastering again. I can't not!
That gives me the +7 for ranged and melee defense that I can put to use. However I'm not sure if that will be there after the CB which is something I have to take into consideration. Has any one heard if that might be changed?
I think I might be narrowing it down. If anyone else has any info feel free to keep it coming!
Thanks again for the help everyone. I truly appreciate it.

OOCTK meditation gives you powerboost, which can actually help you dancing, since it boosts action. TKA is also a good prof to hunt without buffs, and thanks to war cry, states and intimidate you can be somewhat effective in PvP as well, provided you don't want to be the big damage dealer. IMHO, sticking Intimidate and other states on all enemies is more important than adding a bit more damage any day of the week in organized PvP. TKM also allows you to target any pool, making it easier to work together with the different combat profs both PvE and PvP (though until combat revamp, mind damage is what counts in PvP). Force of Will also can save you in PvP, as long as you get the time to use it... sniper shot and DB macros cut down on its use though. If you want to master dancer and are content with a support role in PvP I would go TKM.

I'm a Dancer/TK Master as well. I'm not a big fighter type person, I usually do it when I'm board and no one I know is online. From an RP standpoint it seems to be a natural extension of Dance. Sort of like Tera Kasi Death Dancers. (Lei really wants to be a Force Witch LOL) Plus the animations are too cool. /Whisper plus find another TKA you REALLY like and /Mediate together its . . .err quite stimulating (My apologies for going slightly astray

Consider this thought first:
Anything that is being done bya lot of combat playersright now (due toa profession/templatehaving advantages over other professions) is almost certainly going to be knocked down at least several pegs with the combat balance. I don't know any specifics of what is planned for the balance, but it is supposed to be, well, balancing. Anything on the high-end of combatty goodness now is not going to look the same in a few months, and that you can probably take to the bank.
Now, on the other hand, no one really has too much idea yet (I don't think) of how anything will stack up after the legendary CB. It sounds like they've gone back to the drawing board on the way that the underlying systems work; speed and damage will be calculated differently I hear, specials won't come off your actual HAM, but from a special action set of HAM-like bars, things like that. Under the hood systems changes like these will change all the rules... those who once knew the ins and outs will be back again at square one. In light of that understanding of how deep system changes affect outcome, I don't think anyone right now could really make a recommendation of what would be good after the CB. There's just no way of telling, or even guessing.
Now, on the other other hand...
As my sig says, I'm a master dancer/entertainer/pistoleer. I don't care at all about PvP, but I've heard about how pathetic pistoleers are right now in serious PvP, so I'll take that as the gospel. In PvE though, we straight pistoleers can still do quite a bit... as long as we're not facing anything with good resists and medium armor or better.
Right now, we're severely underpowered, relatively slow, and have access to no better than AP1 weapons. Whereas I can easily solo enraged rancor and Janta/Mokk missions for the good money, any time I get some crazy notion of visiting any of the content that's newer than say the Geo caves inclusive, I'd better be along with a group that's doing the actual work. I'm sure it's very cute to have the Twi'lek dancing girl taking potshots at things with my DE-10 and DX2, but I just can't really hurt things in those places. Oh well, we're not supposed to be the heavy-hitters... we're all about runnin' and gunnin', and lookin' good doing it...
I think it really depends on what you want out of your combat experience. If you want to "pwn", you can take rifles or TKA or swords now, and have some fun with it until the CB turns things on it's ear. If you want style, and a profession that can only get better with the CB, look no further than pistoleer. I've got two words for you...
Dual wielding.
Okay, maybe it's just me (and a lot of other pistoleers), but I don't even think Icare if pistols are still weak after the CB with the sheer cool factor of this. I'm all ready for it too - I just bought a BE bantha with over 10k health and 59% kinetic resists so I can have it trained as a mount and ride around with twin DE-10's equipped doing my Annie Oakley dance. Weeeeeee PAH! I'm going to have so much fun going over the top with this, I don't even care if I can't solo krayts.

As my sig shows, I am a TKN. I can't go any higher right now because of my novice doc level (althoiugh I am seriously considering surrendering that). I love TK, though and after the baby is born I am looking forward to doing more.

I took TK for rolepaying purposes.. I thought if I was a dancer and things got rowdy I'd have to be able to defend myself, but I don't know many dancers with a rifle or a sword ... unless you count the sworddancers who don't care they make mincemeat of themselves and their enviroment
So I kick the stuffings out of several enraged Rancors solo now hehe.. gotta love TK against some foes
won't ever know how it handles in PvP, I don't do that thing.. if someone really is out of line I report and be done with it

My prof is Master Dancer (done), Master Pikeman (almost), and Carbineer (not even close! lol) through to level 4 in one tree. I used the character builder template here: http://swgcb.yogn.net to help me figure out what I would be able to do.
Basically, if you MUST keep Master Dancer (which I MUST - I dropped it once and was bummed so I Mastered it again) you will be able to master ONE combact profession and your third career will be a tossup. But I don't want to be helpless in ranged combat, so my ranged combat skill will be to get to level 4 in one of the Carbineer trees.
Good luck.
