I was in theed on my respective server and there was a bunch of filthy nasty dancers shouting lewd profantities to other players.

Now I am almost 30 and I just shrugged it off but I have been in a few verbal arguements myself and wa reported even thoug I pointed out the profanity filter.

So my question is where does SOE draw the line with this. Am I supposed to put up with several hours of profanity and silly behavior or report it and hope soe does something or retort back and get warned about my behavior

I do not understand how this works? Do I have to take screenshots to report this behavior or just hope soe can find what was said to me or others.

Now where did I put my flamethrower?

It's just a game..use /ignore..turn filter off.

Reporting it is just being a jerk..but then kinda remind me of those people who let their underage kids play MMORPG's that are rated Teen, then have the balls to **edit** at someone who curses or makes dirty remarks etc when their kid plays.

It may just be a game but it doesnt mean we have to put up with gratuitous profanity either. I use a profanity filter and it tends to filter some very benign words. I for one do not think reporting it makes anyone a jerk. Some profanity is expected. Where you draw the line is a personal decision. If it continues to where you think is excessive report it to a CSR and let them guide you from there.

Words never shock or hurt me, it all depends on the attitude and intent..

Offcourse I've been known to jump to conclusions and misunderstand those completely, too..

So these days I'm trying to bite back the anger, and let it slip.. if the attitude persists, I take it up with the offender, and if that still don't work he/she goes on report..

Call me a jerk for reporting someone, I don't particularly care, I never report normally.. only tried it once and got nowhere cause the chatlog didn't recognize it /grin

Go ahead and report it. If it's bad enough for them to do something well hopefully they will. If not /addignore . I sadly have a very big list of people on ignore from stuff like that and spamming.

My opinion on this is mixed. NO ONE should have to tolerate anything that offends them. But people are offended by different things. For example... I tend to use quite a bit of questionable language. I don't do it to offend anyone, and they're mostly just in passing... like I say "what the F" a lot. It drives me up the friggin' wall if someone tells me to watch my language. For one thing, it's impossible for me to do that. It's a habit, and it's not one I'm going to be breaking any time soon, certainly not for faceless MMORPG players I'll very likely NEVER actually meet. But, there is a line between habit and offensive. I think the filter works well against habitual cursing, but for extreme cases (like publicly lewd comments, cursing directed AT someone, like calling them a b*tch, etc), /report is your friend. For example, I can't stand it when people call someone else a "f*ggot", and I will report anyone I hear using that word. And I always try to tell them I'm reporting them, because it makes them so mad... and we all know I love to make people mad. LOL

BTW, to my personal one-star ninja: I turned ratings back off. So you can keep one-starring me, but I can't see it and don't care.

See I've been playing MUDs and Online games for... wow like forever now. And it's not like talking where sometimes stuff can just slip out. You type each and every word out. Meaning you think about it first. You then tell your fingers to type it and then you hit enter. There is MORE then enough time for our brains to go Oops wait a second.. maybe a shouldn't hit enter. But most people don't really care or just don't care to think about that sort of thing. So they hit enter anyways.

I disagree with this, to an extent. I type really, REALLY fast. I type as fast as I talk, to be honest. And if something happens to me - if I get attacked, or something makes me mad - I'm probably going totype obscenities in guildchat without ever thinking about what I'm saying. Because it's just a habit. And the standard "cuss words" - damn, piss, sh*t, f*ck... they're seriously just words. The intent behind it is exactly the same if you say darn, shoot, etc. They don't offend me, and I don't use them to offend other people. But I'm probably not going to STOP using them any time soon. So, if they really offend your tender sensibilities, feel free to /addignore me. *shrug*

i would have to dissagree with you to a point as well. i'm the kind of person that types almost as fast as i come up with the sentance. and i sometimes let out the odd vulgarity when playing. heck, i cant even recall some phone numbers unless i look at a number pad off of a phone, even then i have to take my time, and watch what i do when trying to recall the number, but that's just an example, of how i myself do things.

I turned off my filter when I was having a discussion with a friend in /tell. "I'm from NJ so my favorite hockey team is the NJ #&@*" ??????? I even tried variations on "Devils" till I finally gave up and just turned off the filter.

My suggestion would be, if thecussing is directed at you, then do a /report andsend a message to CS. But ifit's not directed at you, and it still bothers you, then just turn on the filter.

This is far easier to handle then when someone yells into teamspeak "S**T S**T S**T! Someone just got to the farmer before me!" /blush

I'm rather surprised entertainers were using this type of language... it's not exactly the best way to make tips.

That is for sure. I can't even imagine using that technique to get tips!
