Thread: Something I did today

The people that know me know how much I really despise AFK Macrotainers, today as I was dancing in the cantina and thinking about things I made up a macro that I will now use when I invite new people into the group. I actually did this after 2 folks went afk.

/g This is my policy on AFK macrotainers, I will not group with or heal you. If someone goes AFK for more than 30 minutes I will boot you from the group. When you return and are actually at your keyboard you are welcome torejoin the group. If you choose to AFK Macrotain I cannot stop you but I don't have to support you. I'm sorry if this upsets you but you can choose not to group with me. Thank you.

So after I booted the two folks that went AFK for a long time and subsequently a third person, I very politely sent them an email explaining that I'm sorry but I don't support AFK macrotainers and if they returned to the keyboard they would be welcome to rejoin the group.

All three sent me emails apologizing, one was logging for work and moved to a side room, one logged completely after the apology and one rejoined the group and happily danced with us for quite awhile. At no time was I nasty or mean (altho this week I've entertained thoughts of parking my kitty on a certain afkmacrotainer who has decided to frequent our cantina ) and I was pleasantly surprised by the emails I got back from them.

It was also interesting because everyone of the people in the group stated that they agreed with my comment and liked my stand.

*hugs*

It's so good to see peopel taking control of the cantinas again. I wish it would start happening on my server. Whenever I walk into the cantinas all I see are robots and people spamming for tips. "Wven Though I am AFK, I still accept tips."

Yeah, well you aren't getting one from me.

I'll walk into the cantina now and say "whoever greets me first gets my tip!" Sometimes someone will respond to me, other times they won't. And if everyone is quiet I will usually talk to the other patrons about the old days inthe cantina and how entertainers used to entertain and they all agree and then suddenly I will get a snotty /tell from one of the dancers.

Now that dancers have the ability to buff the mind, I would think more would actually be at the keyboard. I think they were there for a few days afte rthe patch. It was almost like the old days. But then they must have gotten bored and the robots are back.

I like that you are taking control. When I first started dancing, the house rules were no undie dancers and AFKers had to go to the side. No begging for tips or you got booted. This provided a nice atmosphere for those dancing and we all bonded. I still talk to all my old dancing/musician buddies. I think only two of them still dance.

Keep up the good work.

OK... odds are I would beat you to the punch because I watch the door and target new customers as they come in (that's why I position my character near-ish to the door, so I can see it), and type /welcome, /greet, or something similar. If several people come in at once I just generically say something like, "Welcome to the cantina, one and all."

Now, if you DID beat me to the punch and say that first (perhaps because I was typing something in group chat at just that instant), I would probably have my character say something other than a pure greeting like, "I dance because I love it, not for tips."

I assume that'd still approximately qualify because I'm still responding to you... but I really do NOT dance because I am trying to make money. My character is also nearly a master marksman and if I am desperate for cash (I rarely am, actually) I have her go hunting for it.

I'd probably actually WAIT until someone else greeted you first and let them get the tip, before saying anything, just to prove my point. :-)

I currently am working my way slowly toward master, and it baffles me why people go afk and grind dance exp. Yes it can get a tad boring if you are in a slow catina to dance for hours, but then why not travel to a bigger city and dance for awhile? I dance at the Moenia Cantina mostly and love that I know most of the people who walk thru the door, and you can bet as soon as I see them walk in that they get a smile from me. I guess I don't see paying to play a game then leaving it running while not there. I too wish the AFKers would at least move to a side room and let those of us who are truly there to entertain have the good spot by the door! At least when I finally do make a master I will really be able to say that I earned it!

As for tips they are a nice bonus and that is all as I am also a Carbinier, working on Master there too. But once in a while someone will surprise ya, I got a 7k tip one day from one of the guys who usually is around the area and asked him if he meant to send that much. To my surprise he said of course! lol

I really appreciate this. I don't mind AFK dancers, for the most part, but I dance most often in Theed on Chilastra.

We have about 10:1 AFKers to Actual Performers. It's just sorta sad.

The other day, one of the entertainers tried to organize our group a little better so that we would be putting on a better show. Simple stuff, really, like lining up and clearing some space; just generally looking likean organized group.

The entertainer group, though, is a repository for bots in Theed on my server, and they all want to dance up front. I really don't understand this... They hog up the performing area, wander all over the place, but they get nothing for doing so. They earn the same healing and dance XP off in a side room as they do on the main floor, and they do so without calling attention to themselves.

What these leaves the rest of us with, those who are actually dancing, is a messy, cluttered floor with dancers who, quite frankly, just look silly facing the wall or twirling about in a chair. The rest of us can't form any sort of cohesive group for lack of available "real estate" in the cantina. It's just annoying, and sorta junky to do to the people who really do want to perform. I am at my keyboard, actively "dancing" but, I have to tuck in away from the rest of the group cause some girl decides to do Formal in the main part of the floor while she goes to work.

Clearly, the AFKers in my hometown cantina are in control at the moment, and no one seems to care a real whole lot. Maybe they all gave up and moved on to other places, but I wish it wasn't so.

Kicking people out of the group needs to happen, and I think I will be lifting/borrowing/stealing your idea. Theed is so popular, I would hate to see the AFKers win, andthe real performers to go elsewhere.

I agree with what you did, Caly.

Could say more, but I never actually really say much on these forums anyhow.

Way to go sis that is how I pretty much feel about AFKers as well. I start booting people out after 30 or so minutes. Glad to see you taking a stand on it and your macro is wonderful!

I have a confession to make: I am an AFK Macrotainer.

The biggest tip I ever got was when I was AFK.

I am doing the same thing right now and some entertainers now labeled me a entertainer with a attitude, hehe

Ooo..big representation of Flurry folks. Anyhow, awesome post Caly. Just remember to add, 'hugs to you all' after thank you in your message..hehe. In a more serious note though. Most people will understand and relate to what your trying to do. I know I've had my share of asking people to politely move to the side of the cantina so they wouldn't be in the main area. Why? Not only is it good for the non-afk people, but it gives them a chance to do some creative performances. In my view, that is what we're all about, to entertain. After all, we're entertainers, are we not?
Point being and in my opinion what sums up Caly's post. Simply be polite and respectful, but at the same time, getting your message across, you'll get a much better response. A response that will result and benefit, not only the entertainer themselves, but the spectater as well. Okies, I've posted way too much..3rd post already in the forums..must go and spread the love and desire across the galaxy. Stay safe all.
