Thread: Some hard numbers on falling....
My methodology was, as a master dancer/master entertainer, to start dancing exotic3, do flourish 1 10 times with a 20 second pause between each, then stop. Well, that was what it evolved into. I started just counting flourishes and falls, but I kept losing track so possibly double-counting falls. If anything, this made the numbers of falls a smaller percentage. Doing the sets of 10, I just had to count the number of falls.
Before I started the sets of 10, I had 56 good flourishes and 3 falls, or a little under 6% of the flourishes were falls.
I had two incomplete sets due to running out of action. Both these were 4 successful flourishes, so a 0% fall rate, with a very large margin for error.
Once I started the sets of 10, I got the following numbers:
Total number of flourishes: 220 (22 sets)
Total number of sets with 1 fall: 10
Total number of sets with 2 falls: 1
Total number of sets with more than 2 falls: 0
That leaves 12 falls out of 220 flourishes, or 5.45% of the flourishes.
A bit high on it's own, and something I would like to see reduced. However, I think the numbers make it seem less than it "feels" like because of the times we can fall repeatedly. I know there are a number of times I've fallen on exotic3 or 4 twice in a row. Also, being master entertainer, in my experience and others as well, the extra dance knowledge gives a smaller fall rate.
I'll test as novice entertainer next.
Hi,
I think it works somewhat differently. It may have something to do with when you initiate the flourish. I see many times I fall when I initiate flourish abruptly so that I have to effectively turn around to start the flourish.
It may have something to do with time spacing between the flourishes.
Q
"You fall when you fall and item or no item."
No. I never, never, never, never, never, NEVER have fallen on my highest dances with a staff equipped. I've spent a half hour straight doing buffing while dancing exotic 4 and have NEVER ONCE fallen while I have the staff equipped. Sometimes I forget to equip it when I start and it's guaranteed that I will fall in the first 3 flourishes I do-which then makes me notice I forgot my dancing stick, thus causing me to equip it and eliminating the falls.
I know for a fact that not every item works (vibroknucklers do not, and I'm not into guns so I've never tested them). I have danced with various staves, rykk blade, 2h and 1h curved swords and have never fallen with any of those items equipped.
I'd be curious if anyone has fallen with a staff equipped. Maybe my character has gotten bugged somehow but I really doubt that.
It also depends on the dance you do. We had a gig lately with noone falling for half an hour of dancing vairous dances. Then we switched to the highest dance (exo4) and people were falling left and right like we were under attack.
I'm a master entertainer, master dancer, master musician, novice image designer. You cannot put more points into entertainer safe of sleeping with a developer. I think it's a shame I fall every five minutes doing my best dance.
( I will put some thought into your "What should entertainers be" post later Tiaga
I didn't miss it, I just need a little bit more time. 26h a day would be just perfect *g* )
when you want to test dancing carrying a weapon, try to get
a spraystick

I fall with or without anything in my hand.
Ive been master dancer for 3 month now and I have tested every single idea I have found, but I still fall.
Most time it happens on exotic 4 flourish 2.
If I dance without my scout blaster in my hand I typically fall once out of 9 flourishes. I keep my scout on me at all times cause I only have pistols 4 and I like the scout blaster. Anyways, its good to see we have a deterrent against the falls as it is. At Master Dancer we shouldn't be sitting on the floor as much as a Novice but when we get those harder dances we seem to. Why don't we get some kind of advantage at Master? Like say dances take less action or something? Just an idea. Say cause we can dance the lesser dances better because we aren'tskilled enough to performthe move. Meaning at master and you are doingLyrical or something you aren't spending the same energy as you would as if you had just gotten Lyrical and just started doing it. You have honed your body and skill to do Lyrical and do it without falling and typically when you do that, you kinda cheat and find a way to do it without using as much energy.Well I do that at work. Do something one way then find an easier way to do it and then that progresses. Wow I'm lazy! Anyways I'm trying to get to this....Practice makes perfect right? We practice but we never get better really.
Well i know at master level I don't fall doing Lyrical I was just using that as a reference. Anyone following this post I made? I'm tired and I'm going to bed.
Wait if that goes through then the Armorsmiths and Weaponsmiths and every other profession would want the same kind of thing for them. At master they can make something with less resources or something. Oh well. I killed my own idea. /cheer.
I danced the entire evening last night, holding a survival knife, multiple dozens of flourishes, zero falls.
It looks clunky, but it works.
First of all ... why on earth do we fall anyway. I have never ever seen a musician fail, regardless of level, regardless of instrument used, regardless of song. So, why do we.
So either we both fail, nor neither do. I much rather do without. If it is realisme, then why is the musician not affected? Because ppl don't want to listen to fall tunes? No, they rather see dancers fall? Right ...
Falling sucks and needs to be eliminated once you reach master! Or even sooner! When I'm doing a buff and I fall, my customers ask "Are you OK?" God it's so embarrassing!!
The musician point is excellent. What do musicians have that's equivalent to dancers falling? NOTHING. Musicians never fall, they never play a note out of tune, they never suffer any penalty to their performance. But dancers fall (just like combat fighters miss, I suppose).
FALLING HAS GOT TO GO.
