Thread: Entertainers should loose their buffing ability!

You can see doctors out there all the time selling buffs. However the entertainers don't even deserve their ability to do mind buffs. If your lucky you can find one that's NOT afk. Even then, they often just say no to your request to buy one. Add to that the fact that their buffs only last 1.5-2 hours it hardley makes the effort to get one worth it. By trhe time you get through the shuttle waits, arrive at your destination, hook up with a group and run a mission or two, they are all gone. You can forget finding an master dancer or musician out in the field buffing in out of the way cantinas or camps.

I'm sorry and I know that I will get flamed, but these classes are completely useless in how they play the game. I would rather have NPS entertainers to heal and buff.

*sigh* You would rather have NPC entertainers? How exactly can an NPC entertain? You know, us entertainers do more than buff! Infact I can make a list a mile long of all the other things we do. Why we, put on wonderful shows, host great role playing events, sing, dance, you name it! Yet all you can see are the buffs. Sometimes we don't have the time to buff as we are busy do things like hosting partys, joining up with traveling entertainment groups, shedding some light on old forggoten cantinas - you know stuff we enjoy. So you would rather have NPC bots? You would rather take away OUR enjoyment so YOU can have increased stats for an hour or two?

Wait a second now! There is a shortage of composite armour on my server, but I'm not writing treatises on how armoursmiths should loose their ability to craft composite armour. The problem is not that entertainers should or should not buff. The problem is that entertainment buffing is a VERY cumbersome procedure, and that there are very few who are actually live and able to do it. The demand is there. The people are not. So instead of nerfing an entire ability simply because it is not convinient for you, we need to find ways to make buffing easier and more accessable, plus give characters greater incentives to be entertainers.

I can see your point and agree with most of what you said, but I'm not talking about ent's who are hosting parties or involved in other going on's. I am talking about the fifty AFK's in the coronet cantina that are nothing more than lag monsters. Even some who are not AFK only speak to request heals from medics [who BTW I think should be earning their xp out healing hunting and PvP groups, but that's another grief]. I don't only see the Buffs, but they are a major need of mine and I can't believe the lack of interest that most entertainers [on Bria anyways] have in providing this service. I also can't believe the lack of ent's in the entire galaxy except for Coronet and maybe Theed, Besting and Dathomir. All 50 or so of them on at any given time are all in one place. When the game started I enjoyed how all but one ent I knew loved to RP. What I get today isn't even a pale shadow of what it used to be like.

I really posted this in hopes that it may shock the Ent community into taking the game seriously and acting more like the Doc's do. I am disappointed at the lack of flames at me over such a provoking post. Apathy seems the order of the profession.

I'm sorry for my bluntness, but I am frustrated.

Believe me, those of us who would love nothing more in this game than to entertain, heal, and buff you are very frustrated too. So frustrated, in fact, that many of us have walked away from the profession all together. Some speculate that NPC's will replace us. All the while, there are many who state that AFK'ers don't hurt anyone. If you are sincerely frustrated, please, tell the devs how you have been affected by AFK'ers. Many entertainers have tried to show that but we are too few for them to take notice and act. If others in the community are now finding that they are, in fact, impacted negatively by this practice, perhaps the tides will turn. I'm not counting on it though; my bet is on the buff bots.

Take heart; your efforts are greatly appreciated. /hug

I can't speak for the AFK-mongers on my server, but I go out and travel in groups with people. I will in fact buff people normally if they ask and if I am at a position to be able to do so. If I'm in the middle of combat out in BFE Dant, I'm normally going to tell the person that I'm busy right now. Perhaps I can catch them later when I'm in the outpost. The dancers and musicians who do buff are out there, but at this stage in the game, you have to find us. You can thank those who appreciate the AFKers and encourage them as one of the main reasons you can't find any of us any longer.

Please don't consider perma-AFK macro'tainers to be part of the "Ent community." For the most part, they're Hologrinders who just want to master the profession and move on, or buff-bots for someone's main character.

The real entertainer community does take this very seriously. Unfortunately, time and again it's been shown that the Devs couldn't care less, and there's not a bloody thing we can do about it.If you're frustrated, please take it up with the Devs rather thancritcizing those of us whose hands are tied.

I don't only see the Buffs, but they are a major need of mine and I can't believe the lack of interest that most entertainers [on Bria anyways] have in providing this service.

Well, if you look on the docs forums, you will see a lot of people openly stating they aren't wearing their master doc title anymore because they constantly get asked for buffs. My interest in buffing someone else lies in one of two things: friendship or money. I don't have many friends who would need buffs, crafting or entertaining isn't too tough. So the incentive must be money.

I have been in the cantina for 3 hours yesterday evening. 3 people came in, asking for buffs. One came in and just said "buff me". Well, nice try, but I'm not a buff-bot, and I don't do so on command. Talk to me nicely and you get a buff. Stand in the middle of the room and expect to be buffed and it will be a very boring evening for you. The second one came in and politely asked for a buff. I gave one. He paid 3K. Normal transaction, no complains. The third one came in and yelled "looking for buffs". I said "I can buff you" three times every time he asked. He did not notice. After 3 minutes he cursed all of us lazy entertainers and ran out. I /told him I had answered his question 3 times and if he needed a buff. He replied no, not anymore. Well, you see, I was there 3 hours, I had two people frustrate me, and one transaction which netted me 3K for 3 hours. Do you do anything for 1K an hour ? Thought so. And this was a totally normal evening.

Who would complain about someone not willing to earn 1K per hour in a place that is unfun ?

I also can't believe the lack of ent's in the entire galaxy except for Coronet and maybe Theed, Besting and Dathomir. All 50 or so of them on at any given time are all in one place. When the game started I enjoyed how all but one ent I knew loved to RP. What I get today isn't even a pale shadow of what it used to be like.

And the entertainers are fighting this. Read our Top 5 Issues or Top Ten Questions. We WANT the AFKers gone. However, the DEVs don't, so there is not much we can do about this. The entertainers that have fun leave the cantinas, because they aren't fun anymore. Yes, it once was nice and entertaining and we want that back even more than you, because we are in cantinas all of our playtime.

I really posted this in hopes that it may shock the Ent community into taking the game seriously and acting more like the Doc's do. I am disappointed at the lack of flames at me over such a provoking post. Apathy seems the order of the profession.

No. As I said, look at our own complains. The same frustration you feel. The same issues. And we have been ignored for what ? 6 months ? You can only complain so many times and be ignored before you decide that something that you cannot change isn't worth screaming about. Yes, you are right. No, it's not our fault.

I'm sorry for my bluntness, but I am frustrated.

Believe me, we can understand that only too well...

"I am disappointed at the lack of flames at me over such a provoking post. Apathy seems the order of the profession."

Apathetic is an excellent word to use to describe me, at least. After 4 months of battling over this issue, it gets really tiresome. What's the point in flaming you? Even were we to convince you of a bloody thing, would it make any difference at all?

We don't need to be shocked. The devs do, they're the ones turning a blind eye to us and letting this travesty persist.

Why pay 15 bugs ( err... bucks ) to run around shooting imaginary giant frogs ?

Why pay 15 bucks to search for masses of imaginary resources earning imaginary money ?

Why pay 15 bucks to produce bits & bytes called weapons/armor from other bits and bytes called resources ?

Why pay 15 bucks to become an imaginary religious hero of an imaginary sect in a completely fictious world existing only in a computer's database?

Why not just spend that money on a cinema ticket for you and your future girl/boyfriend ? Good question

Different people have developed different meanings for the word fun. Some have fun entertaining people in a cantina. Some have fun playing a role ( god forbid this happens in an RPG ). Some have fun ranting on forums. Some have no life. Some have too much of a life. Some come from Quarck IV and want to see what the earth population is doing in their spare time. All want to have fun here and most manage to do so

You're missing something. Obviously, we do it because we find it to be fun. Maybe you're asking the wrong question?

So...

Because there are people who decide that it is okay to macro their way to the top (which is already discussed as annoying to the 'true' entertainers) ... there are people who inconvienience the combat professions by lagging the world, by not being at the key board and all that... NOW something should be done about them?

Why shouldn't something have been done about them when the AFK were only apparently bothering the entertainers. It wasn't important until it began to inconvienience the combat professions? ::snorts:: Pardon my indignance but while the profession may be 'useless' to you, it is not useless to those of us who find actual enjoyment from it. And since people find a use for it, that makes it no longer useless.

Punishing ALL of the entertainers just because of the combat people who are 'forced' to grind entertainer when they'd rather be hunting is not fair to the people who entertain because they love it.

Why is it hard to find us?

Because usually we find no reason to be in the NPC cantina. Why? Because of those AFK people. So where are we? Our own cantinas. Some of us are even 'contracted' to go out with hunting groups and buff in camps. THAT is where we are. Or worse... some of us have left the profession because of the AFK people or the very audacity of a combat player to demand payment for the 'privilage' of healing them. Out of indignance, and pride many of us refuse to be pushed around. That's where we have gone. Driven out by impudent or insulting combat types and the ever plaguing AFK.

So please do not try and place the blame on the real entertainers. The blame is on the AFK. Why should the entertainer be punished? It is not the entertainer that is 'inconvieniencing' you.

::is still irritated that the very idea that it wasn't a big deal until it began to affect the combat professions was even implied.::
