Thread: The Respec Question...

Fuschia, if I understand you idea correctly then I have to say I like it very much.
If they would give everyone two sets of skill points, one combat set and one non-combat set, then it would be possible for let's say Master Tailor who is also a Merchant to have combat background to survive when checking on harvesters or factories.
It would give us chance to fight back when attacked while on the way to a cantina in ill-reputed part of the city.
If that was the case, I know I would only grind combat to use for personal protection and still spend majority of my playtime dancing. But I wouldn't have to worry about never-ending cloner trips whenever I stick my nose out of a starport.
We all would be able to reach the max amount of health if we so choose.
Technically we can function in cities alone (boring but doable) but crafters can't, they don't have a choice but to go out in the open.

You are right on the money.
WoW has two different sets of skills you develop: your chosen class and your professions, plus there are a few (maybe 2?) skillsets that EVERYONE can take (medic and fishing LOL). For example, when I played, I was a human priest, and also a tailor. It meant I had access to ALL aspects of the game, and it worked out VERY well. When I wanted to fight, I'd do quests. When I got tired of it, I'd go buy materials, make clothes and sell them. I wish SWG would do something similar.
- City - Dancer, Musician, Image Designer, Merchant, Politician, Doctor
- Crafter - WS, AS, Tailor, DE, Chef, Architect, SW, BE
- Combat - All melee and ranged, CM
- Content - Jedi, BH, Smuggler
- Outdoor - CH, Ranger, SL
Let everyone be able to master one or two from each pool and then give some floater points that can be used as a third mastery in one area or be spread around.
I don't see that happening, but I would love it if it ever did. ![]()
That would be awesome!

Qilue, are you hitting the bad spice? No, I won't be dropping Dancer even if they do let us respec, but I'm never going to be happy about being so limited just to have Dancer. I know a few people want Dancer to be exclusive, but I don't. I hate it that I have to pull out of other areas of the game just to dance. It's crazy to me.
I'll always want us to have inclusion in the rest of the game or pull from a separate skill pool.
Honestly, I'd love it if the game had like five skill pools:
- City - Dancer, Musician, Image Designer, Merchant, Politician, Doctor
- Crafter - WS, AS, Tailor, DE, Chef, Architect, SW, BE
- Combat - All melee and ranged, CM
- Content - Jedi, BH, Smuggler
- Outdoor - CH, Ranger, SL

Yes, That would be very Cool
Panthu, I was not refering directly to you with that post, I was just a random spert directed at people talking about droping entertainer skills because they will be "Worthless" if they don't
On the other hand, I don't like the trend I see in this game as far as the non-combat profs. Most of the new content in this game seems to be a reward for the combat profs with little attention or consideration going to anyone else. True we got our theater quest, and TH mentioned something about some kind of crafting quest for Tailors in the new expansion, as I recall, but by in large most of the content goes to the combat players hands down. To not participate in that is to miss out on a lot of what the game has to offer, and to not be able to participate in it is to be excluded, and we certainly don't want to pay money to be excluded from enjoying game content. Now sure we can set up different characters on up to 8 different servers and make each one different, and I know that some people do this, but I think many of us tend to spend most of our time on one server where we know people and are well established. So one server and one account means one character, and if you unknowingly or even knowingly use that character to explore only noncombat profs such as crafting, entertaining, or merchant, you're effectively shut out of most of the game's content and many of its rewards. I don't see that as being fair at all, and it gets less so as more development effort and content go into the combat experience of the game
The profession pools idea is one way to solve the problem, but I think I have a better idea. We already know that everyone has the ability to open a second slot on the same account. I think SOE needs to ease their restrictions on unlocking the second slot. For too long it has been a reward given only to the power gamers - those willing to do the holo grind, and more recently, the Jedi grind. Not only do they get to wave their glow sticks around in everyone's faces, they also get to have the luxury of an alt without having to go out and buy another account. I think SOE should either release the second slot to everyone, or if they insist on keeping it as a quest reward, then they should simplify it so that any one, in any profession can complete the quest without having to change professions and without any permanent changes to your character's template. My own recommendation would be that you should earn your character slot when the old man comes to visit you for the first time. You get to make a choice, either decide to pursue being force sensitive and your second character starts from scratch, or pass, lose your glowy status, and your second character starts with glowy status (although you probably wouldn't want to start FS quests right away so you might need a way to find the old man if and when you're ready to begin, also there's an issue of if and how you could regain glowy status on your main if you should want to). It's not that hard to work on FS status (although it might be more difficult after the CU for non-combat players - that remains to be seen), though a noncombat player would need to get some help with some of the missions required, but this shouldn't be too difficult for an entertainer or artisan to arrange. If they would open up second slots to more casual gamers, then we probably wouldn't need to worry about having different profession pools, and there could still be a high level of interdependence. That way you could have a fully noncombat character and a combat character, or a couple of mixed characters or whatever you want without being forced to choose whether you want to use your one character to experience the combat game or not. And while I'm already talking about increased slots, I'd like to see at least 3 characters per account (that gives you the option of non-combat, combat (non-jedi), and Jedi to really allow you the full range of options in the game).
