Oky ive been playing with dancing and trying to control it more and tonight i figure out a way that i can acually move where ever i want, and pretty quick,. like in say 8-10 florishs i can do a lap around a table and chairs. Or i weave in and out and around the exotic dancers and musicians playing. Now i just figured it out soo i know im gonna get beter at it as right now it can be a bit hard to control but its just soo amazing. Its done by twisting and jumping in the air its like your are just grove walking

you look kinda like a monkey but thats half the fun of it.. people have gotton a huge kick outta it and i even have a macro that i add in,. i stop target your self and /strut; /pause 1; /duck try it its hilarious.. but works perfect with the dance im using.. i do it 2 times and by that time i can start dancing aka monkey walking, aka groove walking

I use this to make my way over to different patrons and when i get better aka lvl up addignj exotic to this routen will be awsome.. which if you read the other tread this is part of the reason im thinking on skiping master ent for the time being. I stop at the patrons dance a min then move to say 10m away, or the oposite side it takes liek mayeb a min to get there, and it looks soo cool. have any of you ever dont this?? if you want a demo i would be glad to show you how i do it.. just post here, or shoot me a PM and make a toon on radiant.. btw ill give ya a hint its a low lvl dance i use : )

to me its stuff like this that no matter what cant be macro's this is the sorta stuff that seperate the real deal from the robots. like late at night and a few people wnet afk i used /bandflo changed music, changed dances, talked blah blah everyone left laughing and having fun.. sure there where the ones that just ran out with out saying a word but een some of them laughed atleast..

When you do this, nobody else sees it. They see you finish the flourish with your original orientation. However as soon as you finish they see you do a quick "run" over to your new spot. If you'd like to see what others see, I'd be happy to give a demonstration on Kettemoor.

Je'cy, I call it "working the room". I recently mastered dance so haven't gotten all the steps down perfectly, but I can float from one side of the cantina to the other fairly reliably. I'm glad to see there are other people out there having fun with the broken dances too!

Ah, I was wondering how you'd managed to do this. Thanks for saving me hours of trying to figure it out Tiaga Although there are times the "cartoon run to a new spot before the music stops" jig comes in handy, I'm not a big fan. Usually I just take a break and walk around trying to sell special elixers, genuine imitation datascreens, or speed sliced pillows. The speed sliced pillows seem to be the most popular.

I taught a few dance classes on Kettemoor where I went over techniques like this.

Here are some of the tips I give people I was teaching:
  • Learn to turn yourself without turning your view. You can use number pad 1 and 3 for this. That is the most important part. You can also do "instant" turns by going from 3rd person to 1st person, immediately turning to face the direction of your view.
  • Make a dance card. Yes, I know someone posted a complete one, but make your own anyway. Making the card in a way is more important than having it, as it gets you to really watch the flourishes and learn how they move. Then you can come up with a description that will remind you how it moves. See Sultrina's Dance School for details on dance cards.
  • Start with something easy. Formal flourish 1 is what I first learned on. It is just a leap to the side then a leap back. In truth you can use any dance except the exotics. Even popular allows for movement. Lyrical is one of the hardest to use, simply because the path you follow isn't anything like a straight line. My tip for lyrical is remember that no matter where you go in a flourish, a flourish always takes you back to where you started. So even if you do a spin, leap to the side, then step around, if you started 3 steps in front of you, you will end 3 steps in front of you. If you turn to the right, it will still be 3 steps in front of you, but that point will be in a new spot.
  • Practice. I can use most flourishes in most dances now, but I've also been doing this for a long time.
  • Spend some time doing hand flourishes. Truthfully if it is you calling the shots instead of a macro, it will be easier for you to know where the flourish will go. It's perfectly possible to still work with a macro of course. But at least spend some time hand flourishing. It's easier to pay attention to what you are doing and how you are moving if you call the shots.
  • Don't rely on this as the only way to move. There are two others. I believe Sultrina covers them in her dance school so I will only mention them here. The first is intentionally drifting - using the cause of drift to your advantage to move. The second is switching dances mid-flourish. A flourish awlays takes you back to where it starts, but only if it completes. If you switch in the middle of it, the new flourish will take you back to the spot you were at when you switched, meaning effectively you just moved to the spot you switched. The easiest way to do this is do flourish 3 and switch to lyrical at the same time, then after a couple seconds switch to a different dance to take a couple steps forward.

Of course, the most important part is to have fun.

"Sultrina's Dance School" was the first thread I read when I finally decided to complete my dance studies. The information contained in those posts are a must read for anyone new or serious about the profession. While I've been dabbling in the dance profession for months, I didn't realize the steps for each dance had different timings until I printed out my dance card and started making notes. *boggles at her own stupidity*

Thanks for the tips!I'llhead to the theater and try them out tonight.

I've never been a big fan of the "rapid turn" as I call it. I've always preferred to be in first person mode and simply move slowly to face in a new direction so that it looks more natural. Most of the time when I change dance or flourish in order to move about on the floor I'm never happy with the "smoothness" of it. Yes I get to the new spot on the floor but it's almost as unrealistic looking as the Jedi butt slide. It could just be my own lag.. I tried watching from another computer to see if it looked different to others but it was still jerky. Perhaps it's just that I can't count properly so my timing is off. Fortunately there's plenty of time for me to keep practicing and learning.

Rapid turn and slow turn look the same to others though if you're in a flourish. What matters isn't how quickly you turn but how far you move. Either way nobody else sees anything until you finish the flourish when they see you dash over to the new location. Given that it doesn't make a difference to others, I tend to prefer rapidly turning to more accurately position myself.

Yeah I never turn when I am in the flourish for just that reason. I think it's because I don't have enough confidence in my abilities to really put on a show stopping performance so I tend to be very conservative...but I think I am making some progress so perhaps one day...

This is my favorite technique, and the one I work on the most. If you do it right, it will look seamless.

*grumbles* 'yeah yeah rub it in" and moves off to try the step again, and again, and again, and.....

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only dancer who can't do this properly. But I've set aside all of Sunday afternoon to work on making it look smooth so wish me luck!

Nah, you're not the only one.

I mastered dancer in Sept of '03, and am working on my third time re-gaining my title, and I never, ever could get it right. I was always insanely jealous of those who could.
