That could work. I'm wondering what the benefits could be though. Added healing/buffing power might be interesting, but then it seems like a cause for people to just start begging for people to watch them. Also, IMO I don't care at all how high my healing rates are, I would rather have someone watch and talk to me for longer.
On the other side, if it allowed you to gain access to a new song or dance, that might be interesting, but since it seems the devs have only given us 1 new one so far, this probably won't happen.
I like the idea though. It has a lot of potential.

I love the idea! but for the most part, you wind up entertaining NPCs. Why not combine the two ideas? Each time someone watches you, you gain fame points as well? Keeping track of who has watched/listened to the entertainer has already been taken care of with the currentquest system.
Another problem I see with it is that it's a long term project ( I am not saying that it isn't worth the effort, far from it ).With the current development schedule, it will be months, maybe over a yearbefore we see anything like this.
For now, take what we have. Visibility system &trackingwho has watched/listened to the entertainer then have it give a benefit that would help someone ATK. Larger payouts on entertainer missions, discounts on travel fees. better reactions from NPCs ( from the force persuasion tree. Jedi use the force. Entertainers use their social skills for the net same result. )
It's all there. It's work already done. All that it needsfor entertainers to benefit is to be puttogether.

*Ponders evilly*
So, more people watch the bots.. so their visibilty (read fame) rating would be very high very quickly yes?
Hmm...
And the reason this is a good suggestion is because it makes use of already existing code with Jedi visibility, making it low effort to add.
Indeeed....
I think I highly support this idea. I will gladly accept a fame system that uses shared code with the Jedi visibility system. I'll also be happy to get this in the game as quickly as possible, before possible bugs are necessarily ironed out, say, a bug that would put the famous entertainers on the bounty hunter terminals.

There are any number of ways that PC rating could go hand in hand with some form of Fame content. The reason, however, that I did not include thoughts along those lines in my original proposal outline should be abundantly clear to most forum posters here. You need look no further than theforumStar rating system to understand my point.
In ways, there already is a Fame system amongst our peers, the other players. It's not a numerical value... just an honest "who's remembered, and who's forgotten" type of fame system. Those who leave a lasting mark on the memories of other players gain Fame... the real kind of Fame, the kind that Javier was talking about in my thread. The honest word-of-mouth of other players who we've left an impression on. That's the real Fame system of SWG.
My proposal was intended only to provide one possible framework within which additional dev-provided content, tools, and toys could one day perhaps be introduced, and under the guise of something that goes hand-in-hand with our roles of entertainers. As I said in that proposal, the "Fame" being represented there is artificial, and more represents the 'recognition' of the great, unseenmasses that doubtless inhabit the galaxy. As someone else put it, the moisture farmers, the hotel bellhops, the street cleaners and accountants that make up the run of the mill daily life that goes on that isn't worthy of the 'heroic' levels of the Player Character. All of that is just a framework within which we might fit something new to do... some more fun and value added into our gameplay here as entertainer players.
My original proposal is still a skeleton of ideas... a direction that can be further fleshed out, if there is interest at both player and developer levels. I too think it needs to have more involvement with other players... though, I think there is room for that kind of inclusion in a more sophisticated gameplay system than we currently have. I also know that spending time really fleshing out that idea into a final form is time wasted if there's insufficient player/dev support. So, I left it as an outline.. something to spark imagination and thought for direction... and I think it's done fairly well at that stage.
I would caution everyone though to consider what a simple playervoting system could easily turn into before really selling such a thing. One-starring for random reasons (or no reasons) could easily move from the forums into our in-game 'content'... and I for one wouldn't really want to see something go sour along those lines.
I really have to agree here. A ranking system based on player voting is an open invitation to greifing. Besides, when there are 20+entertainers in the cantina andsomeone chooses to stop watching or listining to someone AFK and come and watch or listen toyou because you bother to say hi and greet them, that's the best vote you can get.
Avoting system can be based on how many people watch/listen and how long they watch/listen is all you need. Make it so that the must watch/listen for more then 5 min. for the vote to count ( to prevent buff bots from tallying lots of votes ).A person may only vote in this manner once per day ( to prevent a /watch /stopwatch macro from working ).
