Feeling nostalgic, remembering when CH used to be kick 4$$. Here are some of my fonder memories.

Remember when:

-- people would say before a duel "no DB, no pets"?

-- 2 graul maulers (unbuffed with minimal healing) could tank a krayt canyon until the krayt canyon died?

-- pets in PvP were used and did major damage?

-- you could actually find and tamea frenzied graul?

-- you could at one point (in the early early days) have 3 rancors out?

-- screechers had medium (or was it heavy?) armor and insane resists so people considered them a SERIOUS PvE challenge?

-- you could tame pets with medium armor like klicknik queens and webmasters?

-- bloodseeker mite queens were awesome because they could tank ATSTs?

-- barkmite burrowers were insane in PvEbecause of their resists?

-- gurrecks were the best because they were fast AND had medium armor?

-- people couldn't outrunyour reptilian fliers to escapein PvP?

/sigh

The problem with buffing yer pets is as soon as you or a bug stores your pet you loose that buff. Plus the buffs don't make that much of a difference. They nerfed CH to come in line with combat balance and then theyaxed combat balance. Now CH is underpowered. The balance problems in this game are severe. Just look how many TKA's there are. SOE is afraid to nerf them because the game is not doing that good atm and they want everyone to stick it out for SPACE. At least thats my take on it all. I'm probably gonna stick it out for the Expansion but it better be really good or I'm going over to WoW

My whole take on 'The Good Old Days' is that the cry of wolf was way too soon. Back then such things as high quality buffs, 90% Kinetic armor, and a hundred other factors that play into Combat didn't exist which is why we were overpowered. That nerf hammer came down hard and now we see the truth of the matter: CH wasn't overpowered, players were underpowered waiting for the crafting community to get the good resources, then they became overpowered.

Now, these days groups don't even want creature handles in their groups and if you are in a group, any pet bigger than a krettle people complain about.

Im been a master creature handler for a 3 months now and now I don't even get a pet out while in a group. No point in using pets now in large groups

I have found pets are still usefull/wanted in groups agains the krayts etc. However without a couple of cm's around they are toast fairly quickly. As a tank they are still reasonably effective with support

i never had a problem with CH's combat power, for the record my complaint was taht it wasn't starwars to walk into town and see 6 rancors chilling like they were poodles

um is it starwars to see a brawler class kill 6 ranged defence classes ?
There are many unstarwarsie things about this game Creature handlers were in star Wars in many parst (ATOC the arena, ROTJ jabba's palice, ESB the tauntons, TPM the gungan pets)
um show me TKA? it was created for a fighting game on playstation, Swordsman? Fencer?, Pikeman (ROTJ the guards at jabba's palice).

There is an old saying
"never bring a knife to a gunfight" then why are there so many in SWG

Trayson made a great point here. CH's were only "overpowered" because players didn't have the abilities and armor they now have that enables them to tank. The best armor you could get was maybe 40-50% kinetic with high encumbrance, there was no melee mitigation levels and not nearly the ammount of +melee defense there is now. But now you can get melee mitigation level 3, +130 or more melee defense, and 80-90% kinetic armor with uber buffs that the encumbrance doesn't matter.

Pets have become a joke. They can't do damage, not enough to have it as your only source of dps. You have to pay hundreds of thousands to get a decent tank from a MBE, and even those can't tank like they should. Because of the to hit ratios, your pet and the mob(s) will take off into the sunset unless you spam attack and even then they still move around. I'm almost to the point where I want to give up MCH but I still can't quite do it yet.

As for the good old days, I mastered CH about a week after the first big nerf that added real CLs and that "max number of pet levels" etc crap. So I didn't get to tame any of my own medium armor pets, but I saw a friend that had just about every medium armor and high resist pet there was at the time. I do remember PvP being pretty dominate by pets. I would always use 3 reptilian fliers (combo of enraged, ancient, etc) and nobody could outrun them. I was a Master Fencer then too, so if they got close to me I would /pwn them, and if they ran, my pets would eat em up. Even burst run wouldn't escape my fliers! I miss that.

ok i have been play SWG since the summer. I remember readin up on the game for a while seeing what it was about andall that fun stuff. so i remember when i finally bought the game the first thing i did when i played the game was i read about some secrects of the force thing(still have no idea what that was) so when i logged i started off on tat and i was a brawler (i thought once u got far enough in brawler you could use lightsabers LOL) now i went into that big field outside eisley where all those low level MOBS spawn. i remember fighting a wort (not knowing anything about specials) and it was taking forever. all of a sudden an apprentice gunslinger comes out and shoots it and it dies. I was in shock that he killed it so quickly. he then told me to go to him cause he would heal me. he made a camp (which i thought was the coolest thing ever) he then said "here are some credits to get u on ur way" he tipped me 2k i was soooo happy (this was when u started out with 200 credits not 1000)

is it just me or does any1 else miss the good days when u thought the SWG world didnt go beyond a small field outside eisley?

also my favorite noob moment was when sum doc buffed me for free i thought it was perminent LOL

Running 2k from Keren to get to our guild 'town' while praying that there were no Maulers...

...Hoping that I didn't have a Pixie downer as it was my only defense...

...Or getting a dozen friends together (The only Elite Masters we had were a Master Architect, not a big help, and a MCH) to hunt Piket missions on Dant. Making sure you had enough cred to get a shuttle off planet in case the hunt went bad. I remember I was the best prepared in my 45ish Ubese pants, boots, and jacket with my brand new t21. Our Master Medic did his best to keep us healed, our Novice Dancer healed our minds in camps between missions.

::sigh::

I watched the Beta Video a few weeks ago and cried...
