yeah, I don't understand why people get nostalgic about the days when everyone grouped when everyone seems happy to solo the whole game

the good ole days for me consisted of:
no T-21s. ever. only laser rifles, 2X melee multiplier/and no accuracy.
no buffs. no food. no vehicle/mount. no starships.
hoping you dont die out in the middle of nowhere cuz it mean running all the way back there nekkid to get your corpse.
walking to Fort Tusken with a full group, half of whom never heard of terrain negotiation, and finally getting to the fort with half of your group still alive.
a full set of Chitin was the best armor available.
Krayt Dragons were a heck of a lot easier to kill and spawned from a lair.
no 75% reduction in PvP. everyone was one shotted.
Tusken rifles were kinetic damage!
ALL entertainers were ATK.

hello all.
Back in the time before mounts there it was a more social game since who want to walk the deserts of tatoonie alone
.
And if u have to go from Bestine to Eisly why not make it a crawl competition. (let me tell u it takes a wile)
Shuttles couldn't afford then and if i did waiting for 10 min gave u the time to talk to the other ppl waiting paitantly for the shuttle.
Didn't know that battle fatigue was though entertainers to by fun conversation ...... yes converstation they were actually online.
just seems that when u didn't know how to solo the game it seemed more fun because of the ppl that u grouped with.
And a krayt dragon was something unbeatable not something u do by yourself.

The good old days:
On the first day, everyone trying to find an artisan to make CDEF's
Trying to figure out what the heck a Biological Effect Controller was used for.
Asking people if they had any inorganics I could have to make Stimpack A's.
Doing my first delivery mission without knowing about the planetary map or shuttles. I walked from Theed to Moenia...
The first time I reached 1000 credits in my account. I thought I was rich!
Spending long hours in the Theed Medical Center healing wounds for tips and actually having my mind bar drained so I had to sit down and wait a bit. (I really miss that.)
Thinking that I was so cool when I got my Chitin helmet, because it was the best helmet in the game.
/sigh
I miss those days...

Buffs and speeders kind of ruined a lot of the old time fun, no matter how convenient or easy they make things.
Of course, now that I have them I don't know what I would do without them.
I remeber the days when we would get a group of many different professions together and go hunting for hide and meat for the people in our group that needed it. We would pop the lair and then the ranged professions would get within their ideal range and go prone and start shooting while the melee professions would run up and do their thing. The Doctor would be running around like mad trying to keep up with the healing and if there was a Combat Medic in the group he would be throwing area heals. Afterwards everyone would get together in the camp and whoever had any entertainer skills would heal our minds and the Doctor would heal other wounds while we talked about stuff...
Ah good times...
I remember going to check my harvesters on foot and dodging around all the reds on the radar and running like crazy from the razorcats or tuskcats or slicehounds.
It used to be like a hiking trip to find a good spot for resources.
We went hunting Humbabas in the mountains of Corellia and when we died we would have to try to get back to our corpse. (HA!)Humbabas were difficult to us back then too.
Honestly I can't wait for the Combat Upgrade. I hope buffs and armor both get toned way down. I know there's no going back to the way it was, but it wouldbe a good start. People shouldn't be able to solo any Krayt except maybe a Juvenile. Rancors shouldn't be easily solo-able. Etc.
(Of course I could start a new character on another server with some buddies and relive the old days just by choosing not to get buffs and not to wear 80% armor and things like that)

i remeber being a noob and forming a group with other noobs to explore tatooine, we'd run into all kinds of creatures along the way and it actually took TACTICSto kill them. also remember exploring all the planets on my own, thinking i'd come upon some awsome hiddin thing

For me, the good ole days were when;
- you had to run to your corpse to retrieve your stuff.
- group hunting for Giant Sand Beetles, Banthas and Tuskenswas high-end
- Bestine was the center of the universe
- Bone Armor was only for the rich people
- shuttle travel was only for the rich people
-any Master <insert profession here> would awe people
- everyone wanted Scout XP and fought over who harvests the next corpse
- everyone wanted Scout XP and fought over who places the next camp
-noone hadStimpacks.
- noone used macros.
- noone knew anything about stats migration and armor encumberance
- looting a corpse for 20 credits was cool
- delivery missions were the fastest way to make money
- people only dreamt about meeting Jabba some day

Hmmm... the good ole days...(beta)
Try walking(yes walking)from outpost to outpost when the planets were just unveiled. All the MOBs had uber bleeding. If you started bleeding it was 600 ticks every 2 secs.. oh btw this is before buffs. So basically if you started bleeding and couldn't stop it, you were dead. A group of 6 of us started to explore yavin4. We all died at least 10 times. This was when there was still corpse runs. We were all amongst the higest levels in beta, like around 2222 TKA, which I was the first mtka on bria's beta server. (Bria was the only server at the time)
If you didn't fly in and out of bestine, you were very lonely. Anchorhead and Bestine were the PVP centrals.. I remember raiding Bestine all myself. Me vs rebel nubbies... This is before they changed combat, on death, you'd stay overt, so you could just run out fighting all over again(yea they changed this because of me).... No gay group TEFs...glad that's gone now...
Group Krayt hunting, this was the most fun I have ever had in the game, this is before they actually spawned in the krayt graveyard... & this is when Master TKAs could get a mission for them 500m away from a city... I would grab 1 mission(all you were allowed), 20 player group, and boom 85,000 XP for everyone who got a shot in... yes I did say 85,000...
This was the most fun because it was mostly nubbies, like ooh ohh i wanna see a krayt! and boom, they'd run up to it or more likely, it'd morph on us, and boom most of group is incapped... Only the smarter players let that happen.. remember this is before buffs, so taking down a krayt took a while, most of the group would jump back up after incap, and start firing away, just to get knocked out again...
The most fun I've ever had in this game, sadly, was when it was beta and we kept getting wiped repeatedly.. The group hunting and making of new friends during the lvling was what made this game fun...
btw i just came back after a bout a year of not playing, hoping this game lives up to some of its potential.. and WOW/EQ2/MXO all are boring, I will miss my jedi though, I shouldn't of given it to a guildie, who turned around and sold it on eBay when he was done.... oh well... I think ima go BH and kill me some jedi... I've lived through the grind once, I doubt I'll want to do it again.

Making sure you had enough cred to get a shuttle off planet in case the hunt went bad. I remember I was the best prepared in my 45ish Ubese pants, boots, and jacket with my brand new t21. Our Master Medic did his best to keep us healed, our Novice Dancer healed our minds in camps between missions.::sigh::I watched the Beta Video a few weeks ago and cried...Message Edited by Cdapolito on 03-10-2005 12:53 AM
Wow, that's the first time I'd seen that video... nice.
I remember exactly what the first post was talking about. I decided fencer was the way to go for me (and still am one, though the rest of my template has changed quite a bit). I was killing meatlums and ragtags outside of Coronet, when someone came over to heal me. He was agro'd by one, and killed them with one hit (swordsman) and I thought "Wow, this guy is incredible!" He healed me, got a droid out, healed my wounds, gave me brandy, told me about adding medic to my template, and some other pointers.
I too miss the days of having to group do accomplish anything big. It's almost embarassing that I can go get buffs and solo rancor missions where 5 spawn at once and I can areaBlind spinAttack and lay them all out almost simultaneously. I'm looking forward to what the CU brings us.
