Thread: Are we now the most usless profession?

It does in fact look kinda bad for us master creature handlers as well the young ch out there . There are some gone already and then there are the rare creature handlers who enjoy the prof, as well maybe a outlook of hope for good changes at the end of the road.

Aside from the few requests for mounts or the very occasional training (very few and far between for me anyways). Our only true usefulness is to ourselves.

I see us as an Isolated Profession. From what I understand, not even 16 MCH's could be found for the pet pit fighting on Intrepid...

I've been a MCH for a long time now. I do it because I enjoy it, and that make it a useful profession to me.

precisly i kinda like this because it weeds out the people who are just doin it for a part of the template or bcz its the easiest way to get a kill

Doesn't anyone else see what having an "isolated" profession in a MMORPG causes? Professions need to be dependant on eachother to some extent. We need to have our place once the GCW and Combat Revamp finally happen. We just can't be alienated forever...

Think about it, what exactly do we do? train mounts and thats it? are there any profs that have as little to offer as CH's?

ID's change peoples appearance, in an MMO that a fairly important skill, peoples appearance are important to them. and now they can change peoples stats, if your changing profs thats a vital skill

Pikemen, a pikeman can batter our pets sensless sonuff said really

those are twotraditionaly 'weak' profs and now they are far more viable than us. so think about it, if the abilty to tame, mount, and train attack, store, follow and group to BE then deleted the ch prof. would anyone even notice that we were gone?

I don’t think it is the worst. Of course I am sure it is all situational, but in my case, it is the second most useful.

I have 3 accounts and 2-box two at a time. The "lesser" skills while in combat include…

Doctor- I buff up once and then play for 3 hours. That’s as far as it goes. Healing is not needed unless fighting mobs like Dragons.

Combat Medic – Same as Doctor and the damage from poisons don’t cut it in PvE. Creatures do more damage. Usually, it is a total waste of time to use them because the mobs are dead before they can do anything. Mind Heal is nice in that 1 out of a 1000 fights that do not go as planed. Mobs with huge HAMs don’t even seem to notice.

So why is CH useful to me?

  1. Specials. Creatures help me keep Mobs intimidated cutting their damage output 66%. Yes, I can do that myself, but it does not always stick and it takes up an action that can be used for damage. I never have problem with it dropping when my pets are helping. They are also good at helping me knock down sentient beings. Actually, I love them all (but the poisons) and call out what I need for the situation. They make many hard encounters very easy.

  2. Extra damage without stopping my own.

  3. Extra Tankage. As a Wookie, it is hard to get around the crappy armor. It is also darn near impossible to find good armor for sale. Creatures are a dime a dozen and keep me from having to replace my armor once a week.

  4. The group bonus is great and I don’t have to beg other people to get higher missions.

Don’t get me wrong, I do have my disappointments. The auto-store bug has got to be the worst bug in the game and if my pets are not poofing, it seems they are lagged 200 meters behind me somewhere. Also, out of 10-12 skills I have worked on, it is clearly the hardest I have tried to level. Not that is so bad, but it seems a bit much for what you get.

Again, I’m sure it is situational. For the professions, races, play style, etc., I have chosen…it is wonderful (and I haven’t even mastered it yet).

I just returned to SWG about a week ago after a 6+ month break. This time around i decided to try the BE & CH combo. All i can say is WOW. So very very fun yet so worthless to the community. I am enjoying playing the classes and don't feel like it's a "grind" getting to the master position. I don't pay attention to the XP bars and really don't think about XP when planning my next hunting trip. Useless profession(s)... yes, i guess so. But this is after all a game, and being a long time MMO gamer I have to say, this is the 1st time I am actually enjoying the game play. So, if these classes never get "fixed" that'll be fine by me because these useless professions are the onlyones that work... they are fun!

Thanks for reading my useless thoughts

I think that maybe Squad Leaders and Rangers might contest that "most useless profession" title.

Unfortunatly, you are correct, we couldn't find 16 MCHs. I even opened it up to any CH that could use a level 40 pet and still couldn't find 16, and honestly I don't want to lower it to anyone with a pet, cause I wanted something geered towards the CH. Honestly it's sad, but I refuse to drop CH. I've dabbled in almost ever combat profession so much taht my brother told me the other day to "Make up your frickin' mind." but one thing remained constant, I have always kept CH.

Wow how many MMORPG's have you played? Let me tell you this is the first one that I actually need another profession. In other MMORPG's other professions have things that make things easier, but I don't need them, so it doesn't really "cause" anything.
