I was wondering if the creatures back in the beginning of SWG were more powerful/unstoppable than today?
And why were they nerfed?

please do. I am a 3 week-old CH and I was talking to a bio engineer who said that pets are severely nerfed now so I am just curious as to when they were nerfed and then you can basically vent your frustrations.

From what I understand creatures had medium armor and a higher attack speed and power. While the majority of the player base didnt understand armor and buffs the way we do today. The basic problemwas thatCH was a working combat class in a world of broken classes andbecause of this CH's were more numerious and hated than Jedi are today. When the devs nerfed CH's they did so to bring them into line with the power of therest of the player base at that time while not taking into account how much stronger the other professions could become. Another problem was their was a bug in place that allowed a novice to control a rancor and all you really had to have of the skill tree was 4/4/0/0 to getmost of the CL modswhich meant everyone was dabbling in it.

well, i personally was not there for the nerf, (i started playing about 2 months after it.) but from what i understand, here's some of it.
1. all creatures with medium or higher armor were either made extinct, impossible to spawn babies, or reduced to light or noarmor.
2. max CL was lowered.
3. over-all creature HAM was nerfed.
4. many awesome creatures were made extinct or removed for uncertain reasons, most of which were not 'unbalanced' at all.
5. overall level gains were spread throuought the tree, although a welcome solution to dabblers, hurt CH who were high level and could not master not for lack of want, but for lack of SP.
6. most resistances for tamable species were nerfed.
im sure im missing several things, and i might be wrong about one or 2 of em, but i simply wasn't there at the time. point is, nearly everything about CH was nerfed that publish......

The armor was taken away from most pets
The resists were severely lowered
The GM was a 75% kinetic resist pet pre nerf
A Graul was 60%
Natural pets you can now find at best a 40% kinetic resist
BE's a 60%
The CL's of pets were also raised.
A GSP was 21(or 23) so you could call 3 at master they made it 25 now so you can't
This to was a good kinetic resist pet at 55% now I think it is 20%?
edit
Creature Ham was not touched just their armor removed and the resists smashed to under whimp levels

The GSP had a kinetic resist of 60%, and was a CL 23 creature, prior to the nuclear nerf of December. It was not unusual at all to see MCHs with three GSPs trailing behind them, or three grand wrix. The grand wrix had 100% heat resist and light armor, which made them very popular creatures for combat with NPCs and for PvP confrontations. Back then, before melee mitigation, three GSPs could keep a TKM occupied while you attacked him or her with ranged weapons.
When the game first launched, the gurreck had AR2 (medium armor). They were incredible creatures; still are in many ways, even with only light armor.
Back then, there were only two CL 50 and above creatures that were tamable; the gurreck and the rancor.
As indicated above, the graul mauler had 75% kinetic resist and light armor. This made a battle between a graul mauler and a rancor one that the graul mauler nearly always wone, and the gm was a CL 35 creature.
There were dozens of creatures below CL 40 that had light armor. Rock beetles and mountain krevols were two of the creatures of choice for non-CH. Non CH players could call up to CL 15 creatures from August to December, and there was a lively trade in naturally tamed creatures such as rock beetles, mountain krevols, and the VERY popular cowardly gurrecks. CHs were making money hand over fist in those days. Only the glorious week of the mount launch was more lucrative for CHs.

actually, there's a few natural pets that have well over 40% kinetic resist. the prowling gurreck has 65% kinetic and energy resist, gaping spider queen 65% kinetic/energy resist.... that might be it actually, not sure if there's anymore.
i'm not sure if you haven't seen these or if you meant there's no natural pets with armor that has higher then 40% kinetic resist (which would be true).
