Sorry, I know these types of threads have been done to death, but I've started seeing the weaknesses of my template and I'm looking for some new pearls of wisdom that might help
My current template is MCH, 0-0-4-4 BH, 0-0-3-0 Pistoleer, and Novice Medic. My fights typically involve stacking bleeds and the torso shot fire DoT and then blasting with regular shots and stopping shot (or switching to LLC if vulnerable to electricity). I can tackle quite a bit of content, but high end mobs can be rough.
I'm a very casual gamer so I'm never buffed and I never PvP, so HAM usage is ahuge consideration for me. I rely on chef foods, high kinetic composite, and good stim Bs. My biggest problems are lack of defense(except for ranged mitigation 2 and +40 defense vs. stun, blind, and dizzy)and the low damage of pistols. I do love the look, speed, accuracy, and varietyof my pistols... but being restricted to AP 1 at a speed cap of 1 sec in a game where AP 2 carbines and AP 3 rifles and powerhammers (also firing once every 1 second) puts me at a significant disadvantage against higher end mobs.
I've tried carbines but the HAM usage is insane so that's out. I haven't played with rifles since mastering marksman early last fall, but I'm concerned about the mind drainage. I've never played a melee class so I'm clueless there as well.
So, that brings me to my question. For my playstyle (never buffed), would I be better off switching to Master Rifleman (using food/drink to buff mind), Master Swordsman, or some other template? Thanks!

Went from tkm to rifle. it's a good combo with ch, many posts will bare this out. You dont have to buff or use armor for most things. Conceal shot, while slow will alow you to thin things down abit before sending your pets in. put pets on guard, keep a pixie handy just in case. You can control the fight to keep your pets from taking to much damage or send em in and use your aoe's to end things rather quickly. I do use brandy for the mind but havent had a problem with the drain so far.

Thanks for the reply
So you definitely think that MRM/CH would be a better fit? My only concern is how will I handle those Nightsisters with invulnerabilities to everything but kinetic, blast, and lightsaber?

You dont' need to buff or wear armor. migrate your stats appropriately and you can easily be spamming specials with only a 20 loss to health/action which can be easily healed.
Brandy/Brandy/Ahrisa removes mind loss completely. Get your stats migrated to STR/QUICK/Health/Action in that order. You should have str and quick maxxed and boost your health and action with the rest. YOu can take your mind stats to the minimum as the drugs/booze/food can take care of that.
I kill nightsisters, lairs of enraged rancs, and most things that don't get the drop on me with this.
The fact is however, if you are caught offguard, the things on the advanced planet will one shot you. It is fun though playing as a mortal....and having just a touch of nerves when you spy those 3 enraged rancors with the (?) over their heads

I cant advise you on the Bh side and its been months since i was a pistoleer, but maybe its teh armor? Im a Rifleman/Ranger/CH and i cant even wear composite unless Im buffed and even aftr Im buffed I still cant use teh helm, it jacks my mind pool too bad. Now if your all about PvE hunting creatures and all, look into a good high kinetic suit of Ubese. Mine is 77% and so very easy on the HAM. If you activally hunt as a bounty hunter against energy using opponents, then keep the comp handy, blasters tend to go stright through Ubese hehheh. As for stat migration, play it by ear and do what you are comfortable doing because evenryone will tell you something different. My first migration was a mistake because I dumped it all into actiona nd health, but as a rifleman, my drain is coming from mind pools, yea candy and brandy <
i made a ryhme> helped a lot with mind buffage, it wasnt until i dumpped everything i had into the mind pools. Havent had a problem since.

Good point about stat migration. I'm not a big fan of going armorless and being one shotted
so I migrated my stats in order to wear a full suit of composite (I have to eat ahrisa and drink garrmorl and accarragm before I can put it on). But I can see where a Rifleman would have less of a need for armor than a BH pistol user. I get aggro'd quite a bit right now.
After reading the Rifleman forum today, I'm a little leary about switching to MRM though. There seems to be a strong feeling that Rifleman is going to get a big whack from the nerfbat.

Well, no one can do everything. Rifleman is pretty amazing for the heave AP weapons. So is swordsman, but as you note the NS elders are about imune to most of thie rifleman damagea and some other things are imune to the damage swordsman can do. No profession can use every damage type, them is just the breaks.
Soloing NS elders, in my mind should be the realm of Jedi alone. Playing without buffs is something CH are especialy good at. (something I keep trying to point out but most folks don't care). I have a similar template to you, although I have the stances line in pistols instead of the LLC line in BH. I like the template a lot but I don't generaly try soloing high end content and I often fight without any armor. When going after high end content I get buffs and wear armor.

True...I fought a Black Sun Guardsman (medium armor, good resists) last night and did well with a wild rancor tanking... I was pretty happy.
By the way, I've seriously considered dropping LLC for Pistol Stances. I picked up a low HAM LLC and did some testing. The thing still chews my HAM up incredibly fast. Other than destroying lairs, I just don't a reason to keep LLC. Do you find PMD, melee defense, and the speed mods that useful? How much Pistoleer do you have?

Well as a former MCH / MPI can tell you from experience that I've never been happier as when I picked up Novice TKA. I was doing close to the same damage as a MP with only 1 box of TKA. With my pets help and that of buffs, I went from Nov TKA to Master in 1 week. Yes I did grind but I found ways to make it fun. I gotta say it was not nearly as bad as from Nov Pistoleer to Master....that was just brutal.
Having said that, TKM is not really that great of a choice with MCH. Don't get me wrong....last night I was dropping Rancors like they were Nunas but I still can't solo everything and I had to be fully buffed to do this. I didn't wear any armor cuz I forgot it....but I'm going to try again very soon with armor just to see what the difference is like.
The great thing about TKM is meditation. As a TKM, I can cure bleeding, disease, poison and wounds! Also, I get power boost. Which is a 400+ buff to Health, Action and Mind fora short period of time....like 7 - 10 mins. But it's free and you can reapply RIGHT after it wears off.
Finally, Force of Will. With FoW, if I become incapped, I can pop right up and run away. I won't be completely healed and I can only use it once per hour, but this will save a DB if a fight just doesn't go your way....it has saved me when running faction missions. Without this skill, dead....plain and simple.
TKM allows me to be super independent and I like that. It is also very, very powerful. The drawback, I have to get up close and personal and I have died because of that. My pets were tanking and I rushed in to help, then I died and shortly thereafter, so did my pets. That's what's got me thinking about rifleman....but yeah....they'll prolly get the nerf next.
All in all, dropping pistols was a great decision for me but I can'tsayitis a good decision for everyone. We all play this game differently. It's too bad though cuz MP just seems so much more Star Warsy than TKM.....oh well, I'm through trying to beat em....now I've just joined em.

I was tkm. no complants about it. sometimes I used my armor, sometimes no. I did get to the point were i just hated fighting without buffs. That was my main reason for going rifle. i can play without the buffs. I am keeping the meditate line, no wounds is a nice thing to have, that and the fact my health stat is around 560 or so. The boost along with a shot of brandy, mind isnt a problem, it also gives me a running chance if i catch agro. have a pixie on the hotbar for those cases. catching agro with the low health and no armor= pets priceless

I am TKM/CH
I only wear ubese pants boots and bracers, anything else slows down my regen.
I take agro and let may babies
provide support and do what they do best, Kill.
They are companions not meat shields. Been dabbling a little in Pike of late,
just cause it looks d@mn cool.
I have been CH through every single combat profession, TKM works best for
my play style. Just have to experament and find what works best for you.

Rifleman is a great compliment to CH. I tag the target twice, send it 800lbs of cat to chew on it for me and teh rest is making sure I take its head clean off at 60m. I'm Master Scout and Ranger Tracker as well, so I can use teh traps as a panic button. As for Riflemen getting bludgended to death with the nerf bat, im not too worried, all classes are likely to be beat to an oozing pulp. Truth is, I feel that right now TK is teh flavor of the month right now, once and IF the rebalance takes place, people are going to flock back to CH. Maybe its just me, but it bugs me when that happens. Ooo oo this class is strongest now lets master that by this afternoon, oo ooo it got nerfed, now we are all training this by tomarrow....sigh.... maybe Im just bitter <shrug> No matter what you do, in my own experiance, if your a casual player, do what you find enjoyable. If you dont like what your doing then it becomes more work then fun, and we all have enough work in our days already, why ruin a good thing right? Well, at this point, I have no idea what the hell my point was with this post lol, Im sorry, I guess Im just venting LOL.
