The two main reasons is that its easier to watch your pets ham, but more importantly, to allow you to pull higher level missions.

In addition to letting you more easily see your pets' HAM, itlets the medical personnel in your group see their HAM. Very handy if the group Docs are trying to keep everyone healthy. Keeping your pets grouped is also nice for keeping tabs on their location (both by seeing the green dots on the radar, and the green arrows in the Group HUD).

I mainly use it to kee; track of HAM, but for small pets, it's also nice way of being able to find small pets hidden in the groundclutter

BUT...less harvested resources. Can we get a pet command to harvest as well?

I also like the new arror pointer next to the HAM bar so I can find my little bearded jax in the underbrush.

Never witnessed that I harvest less when grouped with my pets or anyone else... (which does not mean it's not that way...)
I think I have to test that out.

Yes, that is definitely still in, has been since they made it so everyone can harvest a corpse that's on your group.

I'm able to get higher difficulty missions (more experience and more money) by grouping my pets.

I use a macro for the Follow Me command which includes the pet's name so I can call back individual pets if they need a heal or something. I just click on their name in the group HUD and it selects them. Then I use my macro that makes use of the %TT command, which replaces %TT with your target's name.

It's extremely handy for being able to keep a constant eye on your pet's HAM without having to play hide-and-go-click with your pet and the enemies.

Grouping pets is necessary!

Ive never noticed a pet grouping lower my harvest rate

I've noticed that grouping pets will get them attacked quicker. It seems that an agroed beast will attempt to select the weakest member of a group so if I have a low level pet out it will get hit first.
