Thread: Pet Kills is the trigger to learning abilities...

Edit: Summary of what we know so far from posts on this thread about learning special abilities from pets...

There is a slight chance (maybe 1%)of learning a special ability with each kill. This is possibly influencedby Numberof Kills, XP points, Level of Ability to be learnt, Creature Level, Roll Overs and possibly Creature Species which add or subtract to the percentage chance of learning the special... I dont think there is a magic number of kills, just a lot of luck. It is just a matter of time before your number is rolled and you learn the special.

I have been testing Xiao-an´s theory that pet kills is the trigger to learning their abilities...

His theory was that pets teach their abilityup toa number of kills, L1 1-300 kills, L2 1-600 kills andL3 1-1000kills...

I think he might be onto something!

These are the results I have had with three of my pets,

A Squill with Marring Storm L1 taught me after approximatly 280 kills

A Gaping Spider with Bleeding Attack taught me after 570 kills

A Purbole Stalker with Fenzied Blitz L2 taught me after 980 kills

With the exception of the Purbole all pets were inside the range given... I am guessing that the range of kills is also CL related and so a higher level pet will require more kills but the max limit seems to be 1000 kills. I have yet to test this on freshly tamed pets with no xp to start with but when I have tamed some I will do some further testing... I have been fighting them against mobs of low level so that I get 1XP for one kill...

The only way to properly conduct a test to offer conclusive evidence is to use a random selection of pets and to repeat no less than 30 times for each ability level (not CL). Truely valid data would be generated from no less than 100 tests/L. Besides that grim concept all I can say is....you count the kills!?!??!?! If you can do that them you might want to try out the testing phase as I outlined.

Sounds fair enough Hordakka I will be doing more testing but thought I would see if anyone else has found that pets teach abilities after a certain amount of kills. Also if anyone else has been testing this idea... I plan to use different pets to test this and hoped that others might contribute...

And yeah I kinda had to count the kills for this theory to work

Since I started doing this, I haven't learned a level 2 skill in under 700 kills.
And twice its taken 1200+ kills!

I've learned a level 3 in <300 on one occasion though so that made me feel a little better.

Anakin: Master, I think my lightsaber is getting dull. Its not doing nearly as much damage as it used to.
Obi-Wan: O.k. when we're done showing the youglings around the temple, we'll stop by the bazaar and you can buy a new crystal. I hope you've got a couple million credits saved up for this.
Anakin: WHAT?!!?? I don't have THAT kind of cash!
Obi-Wan: Well you could try sharpening it on these younglings. I've got a headache and all their questions are driving me NUTS!
Anakin: hmmm.... Sharpen my lightsaber on younglings...... hmmmmmm.....
Obi-Wan: uh, that was a joke Anakin. I'll spot you the cash for a new crystal THIS time, but next time you're on your own.

You don't have to count each kill, your pet will do that for you.
Go find a cluster of level 1-4 creatures outside a town and start killing.
Since each kill is worth 1XP, that keeps track of how many kills your pet has.

This gets boring real fast so I recommend using a macro.

/ui action cycleTargetOutward;
/tellpet attack;
/pause 6;
/macro pet;

If your pet has ranged attack, you can take that pause down to 5 without any trouble. Even less depending on how spread out your kills are.

So what you guys are saying is that it is kills and not xp at all, even a low level kill (1xp) will count toward skill teaching? hmmmm sounds like a quicker way to empty the datapad and saving my armor. has anyone tested this theory...that even low level kills count as total kills and it isn't acutally xp based.

Ok ... I think this is big guys and gals! I took my freshly tamed Stonskin Hanadak (CL61) with L3 Lightning Reflexes, trainedthe attack command, and set him loose after one of those endless spawns of Sleemo Punks (CL2) outside Dearic on Talas. He was getting 1 training XP per kill. I did not fight the punks myself. Somewhere between 700 or so training XP and 883 training XP I learned Lightning Reflexes L3! I did not see it scroll by on my screen becauseI was actually running a macro but I stopped him once in a while to see what training XP he was up to and to see if I had learned the ability. WOW!!!

The execution date is set ... the tortured screams of tens of thousands of beloved pets and their masters will resonate throughout the galaxies ... cover your ears and cry!

Excellent Hardley keep the data coming and yeah Hordakka we are saying that it is kills based not XP so we dont have to level High CL pets to learn specials! If anyone else has data on this it would be great!

I can see the whole ablility learning going into overdrive outside of all the noob towns across the galaxy. Just imagine how the first timers will will feel, they just logged into the game, they pick Mos Eisley to start off at. They get near the outer walls of the city only to see a bull rancor tearing up cl 1's, or giant anglers. I guess since they will only be babies it won't be that daunting, it would be cooler if they were full size, especially how the rancors tower over the city wall.

ok, so the number of kills per creature to level up huh...

Next test: do the pets share kills, ie, 3x level 1 pets have to kill 200 MOBs each or between them to let u learn the skill?

A test best run grouped that way as long as they hit before the low level dies they will all get the xp and kill credit.
