Thread: Anyone taking more then 2 or 3 rolls to unlock an ability slot? Is this a JOB or a game?

Started working on my Bloodseeker Mite Queen.

This one is a keeper and I wanted to design it to fit my playing style.

At level 60, it would take 306700 xp to learn ability points (14 per roll) and hopefully unlock its free ability (Frenzied Assault level 3).

Well, after almost 3 xp rolls, I didnt unlock any ability or open any slots. The ability unlock I can let slide, but I have noticed that some pets that I have grinded have not opened an abilily slot till 2-3 roll overs.

So this had me thinking. 920100 xp to just unlock 1 open slot (3 rolls). That is kinda ridiculous. For a creature that will die after 100 kills, all this mind melting enhancement work is a joke.

Now we look at designing the Bloodseeker Mite Queen for the future. Say I get lucky and I unlock a slot every xp roll. Now if I wanted to add Marring Storm 1-3 (5/15/45) and Thick Skin (5/15/45), this would require me to grind 90 ability points which for 14 per roll at level 60 would have me rolling xp on this creature 7 times for 2146900 xp. This is only if you get lucky and unlock a slot per roll.

IMO the CH xp needs to be looked at SOE. You gave us the means to have fun and enhance our pets, but this grind is ridiculous.

Now, what if like a few lower level pets and this Bloodseeker Mite Queen didn't unlock a slot till every 3 xp rolls? That would be over a 6 million xp grind just to add 2 level 3 skills to a level 60 pet. This can be worse case senerio, but elements of this are true and on the table.

SOE, I thank you for giving us back Special Attacks and throwing CH a bone. But SWG is a game. Players are here to have fun with friends and adventure. We are not here to be Jedi-like and grind grind grind. This is a game, not a job.

Many will say, don't grind your pets and use them as is. Well yes we have that option, but CH needs to improve there pets to be better for high level content and the GCW. And even when we do enhance our companions with all this work, I still either watch my pet fall to high level assaults by a creature or player, or my pet holds his ground to a point and I get zapped due to an unrealistic Hate system.

Come on SOE...give us CHers a break already. You should be damn proud that we even remain playing this profession in this Jedi infested mess.

You have to remember this is added content to make CH an enjoyable prof.Your pets still work as they did prior to the revamp...Please understand that CH will never compete with Jedi on a galactic lvl as it should be , but we should have a few more abilities in the sence that we a re a combat prof (more def)...I understand being frustrated but it was just a few months ago we had no abilities on the same pets we are using now...

Problem is, I don't want to compete with Jedi, so why should elements of our heavy grind be Jedi-like?

I have companions, not a glow-stick!

Aye! I agree. If I wanted to be a Jedi I'd play KOTOR or Jedi Knight. (I know I know but in those games I cant force meditate in a cantina to show off) Seriously though I've rolled my bull rancor over 4 times and no open slot yet :/ YA know how tough it is to sneak something that noisy, that big and uses an area attack into a group? HAHA!

By the way, I have 3 fully trained pets that still have (baby) in their name, when does that go away...if ever? lol

LOL, I have a jedi and at this point he is fully grinded and now I feel like I am grinding my pets to jedi also, when will they be able to wield their glowsticks. It wouldn't be so bad if it was possible to get into a group as a CH - people seem to think that we are the plague or something, they don't want pets around. With the store time issue and fast moving groups it seems to make our profession have more downside then up at this point when it comes to getting a group. The funny thing is when I have 2 pets and a droid out they do more damage then most of the people in some grinding groups. Currently at 1444 and almost dreading knowing that when I get master I will still have to grind to level and new wonderful pets I find.

umm the pet loses its baby name when you train it with new name if you dont name it baby logo stays

as for the rest at this point it is kinda lame to have to grind so much for so little most of the high lvl pets Ive tamed kick out their abilities fast unless its one I want then 4-6 roll overs is the average. tonight myself and a fellow ch/guildy were out on tat just looking for lvl 1 abilities still took forever and mostly concentrated on lairs which for the levels we were using was kicking out 25k+ (lvl14-25) per pet and averaging 4 rolls before learning any abilities

now as for groups most of my guildies dont mind when I bring along my lvl 70 gurreck so I feel lucky or should say they do they tend to live longer when the pet helps them out of a tight spot I usually set cat to guard whomever is healing in group and let it loose and since its precu and I have rolled it 3 times already no ability spots have opened yet so Im hoping soon

thats my two cents

Someone calling the shots does not understand 'fun' very well. They may have a grasp of it, but think that endlessly repeating something that could be fun, and always having a goal, makes it more fun. Grind = Fun.

I seem to remember my pets all having carefully selected specials previously...

That is not to say there are not parts of the system I enjoy. However this was not some bone thrown it us, it was replacing the system they took away with the CURB.

The new system does allow you, once you have the skills learned, tremendous flexiblity in creating pets for specific situations, and that's a good thing. If you're partial to a particular skin (say you've got this undying love for bocatts) you can outfit your pet with skills that under the old system they couldn't have had.

Sio is already using a gnort as a state platform for BH marks. The only drawback is that if the mark uses an AOE attack, the gnort invariably incaps. CHs (as oppossed to non-CHs) have the option of using more hardy creatures as state platforms, and the advantage is that you can use the critter's action bar to lay the states on the mark and not yours, which allows you to use higher SAC (and usually more damaging) weapons for your more damaging attacks for a much longer period. This is especially important when fighting on of the high level elite or double elite "boss" marks, the ones who usually give up the really uber loot, but have very high HAMs and defenses that you've got to overcome to get at that serious loot.

But Seiryuu's point that this is a bone to make up for the MASSIVE nerfing of existing, on the datapad pets is spot on. The CU nerf was every bit as devastaing for critters as the Great Nerf was, and the Great Nerf was, at the time, said to be Phase I of the CURB.

Unfortunately, challenge = grind in this game... and I don't think it matters much which profession you look at.

I wish things like strategy played a bigger role in the game mechanics, but that would require more complexity and the CU seemed to be all about simplification instead.

Sorry my math was wrong. Wrong in a bad way.

(5/15/45) & (5/15/45) for two full level 3 abilities is not 90 points but 130.

So this means you need to roll xp close to 10 times! And this is only if things unlock correctly.

Level 60 pet at 306700 x 10 = 3067000 for 130 (140) skill points.

And just think...this is only for 1 pet...crazy!

This needs to be fixed!

I can't ADKed my pet SOE.

Yeah, that ADK thing... it is why a lot of us are pushing to remove vitality. I have never liked it despite being overly cautious with my pets, but as things are now the thought of losing a pet due to vitality loss is sickening.

Try to think of it this way.

1) you don't have to buy your pets. Yes, unless you get bio pets. But the abilities are free. You don't spend a single credit on any of them. Any other combatant, besides TK on the most part, have to constantly buy new weapons till they hit CL58.

2) once you learn an ability, its yours permentantly. You will never forget it. So, when you change pets for what ever reason, you still can teachthe new one the same abilities as your old one.

3) the old style you had to have a pet sit in your datapad for days before you could really use it. Now, its combat ready at the tame. Yes, its not at full ability, but its ready to go anytime you are

4) change your mindset. I am not attacking you at all. If you change your mindset from everything is a grind till i hit x, it will always be unfun. If you change you mindset and see your weapon getting stronger as you play doing what is fun. you will have fun and your pet will level before you know it. Why, because your not worried about specail abilities, but your playing to have fun the whole time, not in the future.

5) till your ideal pet is full, you can also put a smaller pet with it, that can have the lower versions of the abilities you want. I still get some major knock downs on my targets with pets with only L1 knockdown. I also see a lot of sky when going against lower level creatures a lot.

As a ch, we don't have to grind a single credit for our weapons. we don't have to special order our weapons. our weapons don't use up our HAM like other weapons. our weapons are tanks, nukers, and crowd controlers. We do have the ability to customize our own weapons on how we want to play.

yes, it will take some time to get them up to the full potential, but we don't have to sit on them anymore either. Once i tame a pet i want to keep. I keep it out all the time to gain the xp it needs. Doesn't matter what i am fighting, its out earning all the time. I choose to have fun from the get go, not after i level everything. that causes boring grind.

But, this is only my feelings and opinions. You have to choose for yourself how you want to play. But i encourage you to try to think about it in a different way.

Gave my Queen a rest last night due to the grind group having problems with its fine AOE.

So, as of last night, I have rolled the xp on my Bloodseeker Mite Guardian 7 times and still have notunlocked Precision Strike level 2.

Why is this SOE? Why?

Thats over 2 million xp worth of wasted grind work. I got so fed up that I put the pet away and began using another.

Kalano made a point about having a mindset for fun, well when things like thishappen, it kinda puts a black eye on the fun!
