Thread: Anyone taking more then 2 or 3 rolls to unlock an ability slot? Is this a JOB or a game?
Okay here is my take on it ch is in the right zone for xp earning. Remember we do not have to group to get serious xp. The problem is all other professions have been too softened up to make grinding through too easy even jedi. Seriously when a noob goes from day 1 to full template jedi in a couple months well you know something aint right.
Here is an example of initial grind time. MBH when the game started this took 5 to 6 months. Not weeks not days months. Jedi when it came out was 2 years. Most ranged professions took around a month. Marksman took just under a week to master. It was rewarding and fun even though it took so much time. The problem is people doing a profession a day. Thats not right and in the end it hurts us all because they burn through the game in 3 weeks, and because they do it only via missions the net result is they never get a good experience.
I agree with u in some points..... the needed xp to skill pets out definetly needs to be balanced. to master the CH profession u need 5.9 million points of CH xp.... and if u reached the master, tamed a CL 70 pet and wanna create this for being ur tank then u have to grind again tons of xp for ur pet and in case u would finish it u would have gained far more CH xp then needed to getthe master a second time.... thats insane, why should I do this? Im Master and wanna enjoy life, wanna go out and search for tamable pets, hunt for loot etc, i dont wanna grind millions more xp just to make my pets real usefull in combat.
What can my CL 70 pet do, even when grouped with me, to tank when I need it, lets say against Krayts? Nothing, its just a meatshield and goes down within seconds. So Im forced to skill it out... Thick skin 3, defense agility 3, vigorous health 3 for example... but how many pet xp does this need?
I really like the new system and the possibility to "customize" my pets.... but even if u invest all this time and skill ur pets out with 9 slots then it still stands very low chances against other players in PvP or inhigh level content like Black Sun hunts or anything else, for sure, the stuff u wanna do has to be judged by ur personal CL..... if ur just CH and CL 54 then High level content is nothing for u, but if u r MBH MCH for example and CL 80, then uve two choices in high level content: U tank and deal damage as also do ur pets but they are safe while u get all the pain..... or let ur pets tank and heal them all over while u try to hit a few shots as ur pets cant deal enough dmg to kill a high level critter in a fair time ( if they manage to deal more dmg then the critter regenerates anyway ).
When I go for BH and find my marks, I ever use my pets too, to fight the marks, but I cant let them tank as they go down too fast and cant hold the agro anyways as I deal a lot of dmg with my gun. For me the only usefull pet atm is my giant pahrple that can inimidate ( whick took me 2000 kills to unlock ) the enemy to protect myself.... thats a nice deal, but I could also kill the mark myself... Ch is more a fun thing for me atm, then a real usefull skill, tho Id really like it would be both at once.
btw..... it seems as to unlock the abilities of a pet the number of kills count, not the xp the pet gained or the CL of the opponents, so a few CHs do this unlocking by afk macro killing CL1 critters outside planetary cities.

Gave my Queen a rest last night due to the grind group having problems with its fine AOE.
So, as of last night, I have rolled the xp on my Bloodseeker Mite Guardian 7 times and still have notunlocked Precision Strike level 2.
Why is this SOE? Why?
Thats over 2 million xp worth of wasted grind work. I got so fed up that I put the pet away and began using another.
Kalano made a point about having a mindset for fun, well when things like thishappen, it kinda puts a black eye on the fun!
Here's a new strategy to try.... find a newbie spawn, (they respawn quickly) make the macro /ui action TargetOutward; /tellpet attack;/pause 6; (or less if pet has a ranged attack)/macro afkpet; Then go to bed, by morning you will have learned its skill.

No offense above but this is exactly what the ch profession has become.
A Macro Profession! We are now no better than the afk ents everyone complained about
How humiliating and disgusting that this beloved profession that NO ONE macro'd (Or at least never condoned here) has been reduced to afk grinding
This in itself says the whole story of what SOE has degraded you people into.
Once people where proad to become a Master Creature Handler. Now I find myself ashamed to be one when all you do is read about grinding, macroing and so-called tricks to be one.
Nothing left here not even the fun of accomplishment is left for us.
I grinded MCH the old school way. I had so-so armor, minor goods, and buffs where rare. I worked the get my title.
well, I did MCH for the 3rd time now and I did it for sure too by active palying and hunting, quiet quickly, 2 days of hunting groups and I was set, .....
... but I deny to do 3000 (!) kills with a CL4 kreetle, just to unlock a level 1 ability, what a pain would this be? I feel forced by SOE to macro my ability unlocking, and as I dont want to quit I do what Im forced to do.....![]()

I finally finished leveling a CL69 BE Gurreck to open all 9 slots. It didn't open any ability slots til it's _5th_ rollover, and then didn't get an ability on it's 7th roll-over either. At 399k xp per level, that means I earned it somewhere around 6 million xp. Given that the xp per kill is capped around 4.5k (to in my experience), that equates to a minimum of 1333 kills.
That's just painful ![]()
I used the noob-group approach, and would've been in a tizzy had I tried to do this (I have no substantial other combat abilities) facing off vs CL60+ critters (I am CL60) in order to get max exp and it took 14-15 rollovers to max him out. I think I'd have given up, to tell the truth. I fully intend to use that same method to round out my other pets, as I would rather be playing than busting my ass grinding, but don't want gimped pets. It'd take about30 minutes to kill 1300 or so Dwarf Nuna, and at least that long to find and bribe a CL1 noob in Mos Eisley, but it sure beats the alternative.
Oh, as an aside - a CL69 Gurreck is truely huge. He is as tall as my (pre-CU) Dewback, and the tips of my horns just reach the bottom of his jaw. If I could slap a saddle on him (he's as big around as the dewback as well, or close enough) I'd be ecstatic, but otherwise he's now somewhat of a nuisance due to his sizeand looks like the worlds biggest puppy as hegallumphs around. A pet shrinking shotfor BEs would be quite nice IMO...
