Thread: What causes CH exp during combat? (is it the same as it was months ago?)

Ok so its been a looong time since I played CH but I have to ask if a certain thing changed.. In the past if you wanted to get CH exp your pet had to be in combat mode with the enemy at the time of the enemy dying.. This made it a bit more difficult to get good CH exp with a low level pet since they would get killed easily..

Does this rule still stand? I see people recommend letting a low level pet get 1 hit on the mob to get exp.. but does the pet still have to be in combat till the exp comes or can I call the pet off after it hits once??

The pet does not need to be in combat, but must not be incapped. So you can send it in at the beginning, call it back and finish off the mob yourself.

The old way was the pet only needed to get one hit on the mob and then not incap in order for you to get XP. And using a baby was a way to get the highest amount of XP. Now, I believe, even using a freshly tamed Rancor baby on a dwarf nuna will only net a few XP points, instead of the old 110 or 120.

Good luck coming back up the ladder.

There is somehting weird going on with my XP. I get more Xp off my lvl 27 Kliknik Defender than with my level 18 BE'd Angler. I used to get 1400 CH XP per enraged rancor (with the angler), that went down to 700 CH XP when i hit CL 34. Now I get 1200 per enraged with my kliknik. Havent pulled the spider to see what XP Iget with it since I started getting 1200's.

Still the same as far as one-hit goes, but Zon has a point. Babies now have a minimum CL of 1/2 the full level, so using a level 40 baby starts you out at level 20.

Prop, I was still pulling those numbers on Rancors using a lvl 25ish pet even though I was at level 40 so I don't think that's it. But based on some other posts, it seems XP is related to something else as well. It would be nice to know that.

Ok so tell me this.. do you know of any reasonable way to keep the pet from being instantly attacked when I send it in to get a hit?

I am a TK for my combat class right now and I always run in and KD etc the mob.. then send in my pet.. once I see one hit land for the pet I back him off and finish the mob. The problem is.. the second the pet starts combat every single time the Mob turns to attack the pet (no matter how much damage I am doing) I have been able to use Taunt to pull the mob back to me but my pet still gets beat up just from the one or 2 hits it takes.

Any other way to help this problem??

I think the combat XP calculator works something like Diablo. That is, to get maximum experience points, your pet should be lower level than the target, but if it is TOO low, you'll get less experience. I, too, see several situations where a higher CL pet earns me more XP than a lower level one.

Zutan,

I am not sure what level of creature you are using when fighting, but I think that the target is seeing you as the more dangerous of the two and going after the easy kill. I read something about this before regarding the Melee combat classes. Does this also happen when using a high CL pet?

I think the baby minimum CL is 1/10th of the max. My Screecher was at level 5 when I tamed him, and I just tamed a Rancor baby (named him Not-A-Bull) out of spite. He started at level 5 also. At least that is what the datapad said about them. This was the way it used to be, at least around the end of last year. The Rancor was tamed a few nights ago, the Screecher a few months ago.

Did some experimenting last nite on fambaas (lvl 34).

My level 23 BE pet was getting me 520 per kill. My level 16 BE pet was getting me 380. A guess - just that - is that maybe there is a relationship of your pet to the level. I have on or two slightly higher pets; I'll try and give them a shot later to see.

Far as babies go, the CL in the datapad isn't used for damage up to 1/2 the max. In other words, a level 40 is treated as a level 20 from day 1 until it gets higher than 20. At least that is what the dev notes said when they made that change.

The pet I have been using is only CL 10. I just started CH again after many months off so I have only 1 box trained so far. I want to grind up to master again as fast as possible so I am hunting high level creatures but dont yet have the option of using much higher level pets.

Gotcha, I understand what you mean this time, thanks.

Given this is how it works, could you use the Mantrigue Screecher's area disease to get lots of CH exp on a group of mobs? My main problem getting CH experience is the battle is too chaotic to redirect the pet to other mobs to get the exp. Also I use a graul which doesn't move quickly enough.

If I could get an area attack pet and do missions, I could hose the mobs down with my area rifle attack and the pet's area attack and seriously reap in the exp.

Anyone know if this would work?
