Thread: Why do so many CH's scoff at BE pets?
What is so wrong about using a BE pet?
Is it some type of pride issue?
Is it because they're stubborn?
Is it because there aren't any good BE's around?
Or is it just ignorance?
It's similar to a marksman scoffing at the notion of using a weapon made by a weaponsmith, instead he uses his starting CDEF and whatever he can scrape off of a thug.
Embrace the BE pets. Personally I'm a BE and a CH and for PvE I use a CL18 narglatch (10khealth, 60kinetic, 370dmg, strong poison, blinding attack) and a CL22 Choku (11khealth, 60kinetic, 390 damage, dizzy, knockdown).
Embrace the BE, they can make some cool stuff.
Its cheatin by the rules RP-seen.
You are a CH, a master of Nature.. you go to
a frigging lab to buy some combat Mutant?
No...
I personaly like BE pets and most BE.
Their petsdo quite simply offer far better stats in terms of armour and resists than any wild pet out there at the moment.
Ive actualy got quite attacked to a wrix one that a BE friend gave me as a present and hate the fact its at 99/99 vit.
What I dont like about the proff are some BE who sell their creationsfor silly money. ( just my personal opinion)
I also dont understandsome BE who look down on Creature Handlers and often use derogatory remarks about us and how evil we are because we still use wild pets.
As I see it BE are in a win win situation if a lot of CH continue to use wild pets.
Why ?
Well quite simply because a lot of the wild pet, even the really good ones such as the mereks, need to be healed like mad to keep them going.
So BE are going to make a killing with expensive pet stims, that often cost more than a new pet does.
The other thing that is slightly anoying is trying to get a lot of BE to make custom pets.
Though considering the amount of people asking for custom pets and from what I can gather, the amount of time that goes into making them, I can understand why some BE ive contacted before, havnt really goten back to me on it.

It seems like a lot of the CH's who post here have an aversion to BE pets?

Your post actually illustrates two of the biggest reasons why we have an aversion to clones:
1 - For one thing, comparing pets to CDEF weapons ishalf of the problem.
Pets are not the same as weapons and armor that you can just buy and use.
They more like "companions" to most MCH's.
They have to "grow" for days before you can use them (not the same as loot)
They run around like they have a mind of their own (not the same as loot)
Each one has a different "story" behind it, like where you found it, what you named it, etc (not the same as loot)
Taming pets is the best "content" in the game for ch's.
Any "true" creature handler will distain the "weaponsmith" analogy that so many BE's are fond off.
(personally I'm fond of the "mad scientist" analogy. BEs and CHs have a unqiue relationship; let's stop trying to call it something else - let's find terms to describe what it really is. The "armorsmith" or "weaponsmith" analogy is just inadequate).
And people who don't see why will never understand, so we'll just leave it there.
2 - the other half of the problem is "dabbler" power.

This is a perfect example of what's wrong with the system.
A level 18 petwith 10k health? 60% kinetic? 370 damage?
A level 22 pet with 11k health? 60% kinetic? 390 damage? dizzy/knockdown?
are you kidding me?
The pets you described should be in the high 30's or low 40's in terms of CL.
In conclusion -
You asked a question, and I gave you my opinion as to "why" CH's have aversions to buying BE clones.
However, now I will give you my personal opinion towards clones.
I am warming up to them more and more as time goes on.
I have even purchased 4 or 5 of them myself.
There are still some practical reasons whyI might "tame" instead of "buy"
- the clone has to be better than wild versions or else no one will buy it, yet I see BE vendors full of trash pets - (who do they think will buy those?)
- it takes so much effort to gather dna and whatnot that the clone tend to be expensive and in short supply
- there's no way that BE's can produce enough for everyone
- no matter how "uber" the clone is, I'm not going to pay 250k for something when "free" lesser pets are available. The clone really need to stay below 100k credits for me to consider them.
Still... I'm getting used to the idea, so maybe you should just give us some time (we need to morn the loss of our terrific pets) then maybe more people will start to come around if you just give it some time.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that when BEs finally got some love from the devs, they were given the ability (erroneously) to create creatures non-CHs could control that previously only advanced CHs had access to. The ridiculously high HAM CL 5 things that have been out and running about.
Also, and I don't expect anyone but a CH to understand this, half of the fun is going out and taming the pet yourself in the wild. It's just not the same clicking on a deed and having the pet materialize in front of you. Finding your pet, creeping up on it, stealing it from out from under the noses of its parents, and then training it and watching it grow are a major part of what makes CH fun.
Tazz hits the two big reasons here. I keep both wild and BE and they serve different purposes. A few of my wilds are mostly sentimental and don't get called to do a lot of fighting. But they were catches I made that I was proud of at the time and stood by me when I had lesser skills. Even in BE pets, I like em to have some character; my primary BE tank is a Verne skin which is funny to watch, but effective.
Another problem is that there aren't a whole lot of BE's out there, and many of them have settled on making lvl 10 monsters selling for 50K and up. I don't blame them, the market is there and non-CHs don't have the alternatives CHs do so they can jack the price up. But when the system changed, it gave the shaft to CHs who had a decent market selling small pets and mounts to non-CH players.
Because almost every BE pet sold is a pile of crap. The ones that AREN'T are 500k - one million.
I will stick to my tamed pets until you gain sanity.

Umm....what server do you play on? *L* Because I've never paid more then 10k for a good bio'd pet and that was before the patch. Now, to say that all bio'd pets are crap and cost at least 500k is wrong. Sorry, sad but true. I'm a MCH. Half of my pets are tames and the other half are bio'd. Mind you, now I get my bio'd pets for free because my fiance is a MBE, but I still see the prices and they are no where near 500k. Not even for the lvl 70 kimos. Even other bio's I haven't seen for that much. Now, maybe I may have missed a vendor here and there, and maybe some do cost that much and certainly aren't worth that price, I agree. But most bio'd pets are pretty decent and decently priced. If you on Flurry, check out Imina's vendor in Teqas City. Right between Anchorhead and Mos Eisley. Can't miss it. And if you still need proof that not all bio'd pets are crap...find Joslin and I'll show you some bio'd non-crap *L*
