Thread: XP Requirements and Hints
So now CH enters the SWG grinding game. Don't know if I am happy about this yet. Time will tell.
Some pointers.
- Do not group with your pets, you only slow things down. You or your group will have to meat shield for your pets until they grind up.
- Pet XP follows character XP, the xp caps after a mob is 5 levels higher then your pet (belive it is 5, maybe 8 but no higher then that). Example, you have a Lvl 32 pet. It gets the same XP for hitting a Lvl 40 as it does for a level 80. So do not waste time with significantly higher level mobs.
- Real pet xp is in assisting in the destruction of a nest. Can get really good xp, much better then just attacking mobs, so don't forget to let the pet take a couple wacks on the nest.

I was a little confused on this pet xp thing last night - I went tromping across tat, looking for babies, and ended up with a CL12 Greater Desert Womp Rat that has Knockdown (L1). So I started grinding with him just to get a feel for what happens.
The first few lairs, I could send him up against pretty much anything and he would get a few hundred (to 1000) training xp, but after he got to almost half his max, he stopped getting anything but 1xp per kill.
I sent him against stuff from CL4 to CL14, and it didn't seem to matter. Beinggrouped didn't seem to matter either.
Another thing I noticed was that after he reached that point, he started *tearing apart* animals that were equal to hisCL or even a step or two higher. It was almost as if he'd suddenly changed into an elite pet...
Iwas going to pull some higher level missions and try running those, but Igot distracted and ended up logging out.
Can you (or anyone else) offer any insight into this weird 1xp thing? I'm sure it's something to do with CL... just not really understanding how it works.

'Leveling' a Pet
Each pet must gain a certain amount of pet XP, depending on its CL, in order to gain a 'level'. By 'level' I am refering to the maturity level of the pet. Do not confuse the Maturity of the pet with its normal CL. The CL of the pet will never change. If you tame the pet as a CL20, it will always be a CL20.
The 'maturity levels' are not listed as any form of level, on the pet control device. It is only a term being used to describe what happens as the pet is used more in combat and gains its ownTraining XP. The term is used to assist others to understand how many times the pet must hit its Training XP cap, androll backoverto 0 XP.
Between approximately 4 and 10 maturity levels, the pet will grow to full size. This has no effect on the stats of the pet, or the number of Training Points or Trainable Ability Slots. This is simply the 'physical' size of the pet skin.
The following is a list of pet CL and how much XP is needed to 'level up' the pets maturity.

After each battle with a mob, your pet will gainY points of Training XP. This amount appears to be based on your Level, the pets CL, and the CL of the mob that you are fighting. Using your pet to take down a lair appears to give a significant amount of XP. Your pets XP is completely seperate from your own CH XP and does not appear to have any effect on your rate of gaining XP.
Training XP is only listed in the datapad, on the pet control unit. It does not show up as a system message.
Each time that a pet gains enough XP to reset the above listed XP amount, it will gain 7+ Training Points and possibly 1 Trainable Ability Slots. The higher the CL of the pet, the more Trainable Points that your point will gain. All CL 1 pets gain 7 Training Points. Somewhere between CL 7 and CL12, the number of Training points increase to 8. More information needs to be gathered on higher CL pets.
The following is Temporary Training point chart. More information still needs to be gathered, to insure its accuracy.
CL64 -70 = 16Training Points
This list tells you the number of Training points that your pet will gain with each maturity level.
There currently appears to be no limit on the number of Training Points that yourpetcan gain, as long as you keep increasing the maturity level of the pet and do not train it with the maximum number of Abilities that it can have, based on its level.
Trainable Ability Slots are gained periodically through the course of using your pet. CL 12 and below pets appear to have a maximum of 4 Trainable Ability Slots, though further testing is needed to verify this information. It is unknown at this time how many Trainable Ability Slots a higher CL pet can have.
A system message will appear each time your pet gains either Training Points, or a Trainable Ability Slot
Here is an example of how this works -
Johnny has a CL69 pet. Johnny uses his pet for a while and it gains 399170 Training XP. After the next combat, Johnny's pet gains enough Training XP to hit its first maturity Level. Johnny's pet gains 16 Training Points. After a while longer, Johnny's pet pmce again trips the Training XP, for its second maturity Level, which gains the pet 16 more Training Points. This time, Johnny's pet also gains 1 Trainable Ability Slot. This gives Johnny's pet a total of 32 Training Points and 1 Trainable Ability Slot.
Possible Training XP Feature and/or Bug
There appears to be a way for pets to gain Training XP at a fairly steady pace, that is based upon the CL vs CL XP model for toons. Here is how it works -
- Chose a pet that you want to bring the maturity levels up on.
- Find a type mob that is of appropriate CL as the pet. If the pet is CL4 then find mobs that are in the CL1 - CL5 range.
- DO NOT group with the pet.
- Have the pet attack the mobs, while healing / helping it in combat.
- Wash and repeat
This method will give your pet full Training XP, with minimal risk to the pet, or you, if the pet is 15+ Levels lower then you are. As long as you do not group up with the pet, it will gain Training XP fairly quickly, compared to using the pet in your normal combat group. If you group up with the pet, and attempt to kill mobs that are of a lower CL then your own, then the pet will only gain 1 Training XP. I believe this to be a feature addition, since it would allow a CH the ability to train 3 non-CH creatures in a relatively short amount of timeso that they can become fully grown to use as a mount and given Abilities.
And just to clarify, using the pets to kill mobs of a level appropriate to their own, will give you XP based upon your Level vs the mobs level. This means that if you have your pack of kaadu female (babies) hunting CL14s and you are a Level 80, you will only gain 1 CH XP, while your kaadu will gain full Training XP.
There is a bug related to this however....
Approximately 25% of the time, when using this method, you will gain CH XP that is equal to the XP that you would gain if you were the same CL as your pets, plus your normal XP. This means that in the above mentioned kaadu female hunting pack, approximately 25% of the time, you will gain 1 CH XP and 600 (this number is only an example and not the actual amount of XP that you would gain.) CH XP. When this occurs, you will lose all /harvest and /loot rights to that kill.

This isn't so bad if you are working on lvl 50 or below pets. With a lvl 50 pet, just work on lvl 50 to 55 critters, and if you are level 80, and are careful with the aggro, should go realatively smoothly.
The lvl 65+ pets are going to be a hard time. The amount of Pet xp needed is going to over 2 million, and if 2 or more level 68 critters jump you, you may have a hard time of it. There for, grinder groups are the call of the day to level up our high level pets.
Should go relatively quick in a grinder group, but remember, Do Not Group with the Pet, or Run More Then One Pet At A Time, and make sure the pets are not pulling the aggro.

This is exactly what I was experiencing last night while hunting with my new tames. I don't mind the 1 CH XP so much but the no loot/harvest rights has potential of being a real killer.
One technique that can also be used is for you to attack the mob first and send your new tames that you are leveling in only when the mob is near death. the new tames only need to get in one whack in order to get full training XP.
This was working well for me last night using 2 CL1 Minor Wortts (NOT grouped with me). I used my lower damage weapon and would attack the mob first and then send the Worts in to do the final whack job. I turned off my auto-attack and also only attacked Non-aggro non-sociable creatures.
This technique also allowed me to have the Wortts attack higher level creatures than them. I used the CL1 Wortts against a lair of CL3 Eopies. I would snare shot and then send the Wortts in to do their innate ability attack. And I would finish off the mob with a high danage attack once I saw they each got a hit in.
Worked like a charm and allowed me to learn the innate abilities from the Wortts fairly quickly.

I am a MCH... I picked up a Slinking Vortor lizard... CL 55. I went to Endor and took out some lvl 40 creatures... then some lvl 65 creatures... I was getting the message of 1 pt of CH XP... but then I decided to examine the pet in my datapad... and guess what... I am getting great XP for the pet (even though it is telling me 1pt).
Thus, obviously this is a bug, but just to let you know... I continued testing this and it appears to be true. Now, when I kills mobs in within 5 lvls of my pet... I got the message of CH XP appropriate to the lvl(instead of just 1 pt).
Can anyone else confirm this? Or point to another post with the info. I have read other posts... and have complained about the 1 XP... (not being grouped). I was not grouped with my pet either... but the XP seems to be fine upon examining the pet.
It is not a bug. You are getting 1 CH XP, your pet is getting lots of PET XP ![]()

The Devs advice is to check the data pad to see how much our critters are getting.
Pet XP is independent of CH XP. Pet XP is treated exactly like any other prof XP. The amount is based upon your pets lvl verses the lvl of the mob.
I was monitoring it, and found you do not want your pet fighting mobs 5 lvls or more above or below their (pets) level.
Plus side, if your pet is 20 levels or more below you, then at worse you are tanking mobs 15 levels below you and this should not be a problem.
Minus side, you get only 1xp towards CH and your combat Prof. Only way both of you can gain decent XP is with a grinder group. The pets stay ungrouped, but in a grinder group, mobs are defeated quick enough so that their damage potential is minimized.
Ah... excellent point. Did not even consider it... good catch. I did make one mis-statement. I just double-checked the XP... pets must be within 5 as stated previously.... in countless threads. I must have just made a mistake on the lvl I was fighting.

Out of group the pets were only getting 1XP per kill and getting pounded. I grouped them with me (CL 62) just to have them kill faster. They were still only getting 1XP per kill. I know that Lairs give more XP, so I started slaughting lower lvl lairs and their mobs.
I was trying to keep an eye on the pets XP in my datapad. After 30 mins of killing the pets had about 400/xxxxxx each. Then after afew more kills, I checked and they were both up to 7400/xxxxxx!!! I dont know what they killed to get the jump, but they were grouped with me the whole time and I was only killing mobs CL1-4. Then, after another 20mins or so, checked them again and the CL10 Cu Pa had lvled once and the CL12 Spineflap was at 18230/18700!!!! I then went for some CL11 Rills and some CL 10 Eoppies (those things that pulled annakins pod racer in E1), and I checked after every kill; still only getting 1XP.
I understand that the pets should get more xp out of my grp then in my grp. It works the same for us. If you are CL10 and you are fighting a CL12 mob with a CL80 MCM healing you out of group, you will get 1200XP. If you are CL10 Grouped with that CL80 MCM and kill a CL12 with only him healing you, you will only get 1XP.
But How did my pets get soo much XP? I don't know if it's bugged, if I need to do more test, or if I was just standing far away enough from their kills for them to pick up more XP.

ITs a bit dangerous cause I dont know what else could go wrong but if you gave up MCH and then retrained it you would use CH xp. Well I think so. It has been a Looooooog time since I crossed that bridge.
